Surya Kumar OUT For Two Months

Surya Kumar OUT For Two Months Following Grade-II tear in ankle: The Indian cricket team has suffered a major blow as star batter Surya Kumar Yadav will be out of action for a couple of months due to an ankle injury. He picked up the Grade II tear in his ankle in the third T20I match against South Africa earlier this month.

As per The Indian Express, Surya Kumar underwent an ankle scan last week upon his arrival back in India from South Africa, when he sustained an ankle twist during the third Twenty20 International match in Johannesburg. Due to the severity of the injury, he will now be unable to play in the last three T20I matches India have against Afghanistan before the T20 World Cup.

According to the Indian Express report, Surya Kumar will miss many weeks of sport due to a grade 2 injury in his ankle, which will prevent him from playing in the Afghanistan series.

Surya has reported to NCA for rehab work and the Medical Science team as of now has ruled him injured. He won’t be able to play against Afghanistan which starts in three weeks time. Since he is unlikely to be selected for Tests, he will possibly play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy in February to check his fitness before playing in the IPL,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The incident happened in South Africa’s innings’ third over. That day, Suryakumar, who had previously scored his fourth T20I century, went for the ball and injured his ankle while scooping it up and threw it. Vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja ended up captaining the team for the remainder of the match after helping him off the pitch with assistance from the physios. India won the game by a comprehensive margin of 106 runs, and Surya Kumar, who scored a century, was named player of the match.

However, it should be mentioned that the players will compete in the Indian Premier League (IPL) before the main ICC event, which the USA and the West Indies are hosting.

When Suryakumar returned to T20Is following the 2023 World Cup, he was in commanding form. After Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, he became the third batter from India to reach the 2,000-run mark in the format. He now shares the record for most tonnes in the format with Glenn Maxwell and Rohit Sharma after his century at the Wanderers against South Africa.

Besides him, it has also been known that the chances of Hardik Pandya recovering from his ankle injury look unlikely at the moment.

There is no update on Hardik’s fitness status as of now and one can say there remains a big question mark of him being available before the end of IPL,” the source added.
