ICC T20 World Cup 2021: The former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman reckons that rookie Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav have capitalised on the given opportunities and they definitely deserve to be in India’s T20 World Cup squad.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is slated to be held in India later this year in the window of October and November.

Both the cricketers made their international debut in the recently concluded India vs England five-game T20I series.

Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav made a strong start to their international journey smacking their maiden half-century in the debut game. The former player scored 56 runs off 32 deliveries which involved five boundaries and four sixes while the latter amassed 31 balls 57 to power. Suryakumar Yadav in his second game scored 17 balls 32 to power India off a good start in the series decider.

“Well, it’s a very tough question because what we have seen in this series is that lot of youngsters have capitalized on their opportunities,” Laxman said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’.

“The way Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav played on their debut game was phenomenal,” he added.

“It’s a tough choice, but I think both of them deserve to play in the Indian squad come the World Cup.”

Sanjay Bangar’s view on Team selection for World Cup:

Team India’s former batting coach Sanjay Bangar feels there is still a good time before the T20 World Cup and a lot of other players can make it to the final squad with a good performance in the upcoming IPL.

“The players who were sidelined have a big opportunity ahead as IPL and they can be selected. So I would not like to count anyone out of the World Cup race.”

When asked whether senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has sealed his place in the playing 11, Bangar replied:

“Obviously, if he is fit and in form. He made a good comeback coming after injury and he will surely get a place and he deserves it.”
