The kiwis had piped out the flamboyant Indian side in the final of the World Test Championship final to win their first-ever ICC title.

New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) has also revealed its squad for the T20 World Cup which includes the likes of Kane Williamson, Martin Guptil, Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Mitchell Santner and a few others.

Complete New Zealand Squad for T20 World Cup 2021:  Kane Williamson (c) – Jimmy Neesham – Trent Boult – Devon Conway – Lockie Ferguson – Martin Guptill – Kyle Jamieson – Daryl Mitchell – Todd Astle – Glenn Phillips – Mitchell Santner – Tim Seifert (wk) – Mark Chapman – Ish Sodhi – Tim Southee – Adam Milne* (injury cover).

This article will take you through the SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis of the Kiwis for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.

SWOT analysis of New Zealand Squad for the T20 World Cup 2021:

Strength:

The presence of Kane Williamson in the squad as a skipper will be the biggest advantage for the Kiwis. Williamson is New Zealand’s all-format skipper and has done invariably well to bind the players together to bring out the best. A strong leader who is calm, composed and takes sensible decisions even in heated situations is a boon for a team.

The New players in the squad like Devon Conway, Kyle Jamieson, Glenn Phillips and a few others are in a good form lately which is also an advantage. Conway has been phenomenal in recent times. He was successful in test cricket and continued his sublime form in the limited-overs format as well.

Weaknesses:

As per most of the experts, New Zealand doesn’t have a daunting all-rounder who can overturn the situation in just a matter of few minutes. Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham and Mark Chapman are the three all-rounders that are named in the World Cup squad, however, none of them has a strong image of being an all-rounder unlike Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, Glenn Maxwell.

It would be a surprise and an eye-opener for all if these aforementioned three manages to make something happen so quickly in a match.

Kyle Jamieson is another all-rounder who has experienced good success in the longest format but hasn’t got much in the limited-overs cricket. Moreover, he is a bowling all-rounder.

Opportunities:

When there are a few negatives in the team, automatically there comes the opportunity to rise and shine. New Zealand has been underdogs in all the three ICC formats earlier but they have managed to remove the tag from ODI’s and Test. The tag in the shortest format is still one of their concerns.

Building upon the confidence gained by the clinical win in the WTC final against India, the Kiwis can put up a strong statement in the T20Is as well.

Moreover, New Zealand is placed in Group 2 alongside India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the two top teams of Round one. Group 2 is deemed pretty safe when compared with Group 1 which is reckoned as the Group of death.

There is also an opportunity for New Zealand all-rounders to make a name for themselves in World Cricket. A couple of blistering performances from the cricketers will send a strong statement to the fans and the opposition.

Threats:

New Zealand doesn’t have a very broad talent pool and which is a concern for the cricket board. An injury to a player will cause chaos for the rest of the group as they won’t be able to get a replacement who is of the same calibre. like for like replacement for them will be very hard to fetch, unlike India where the talent pool is immense.
