England vs New Zealand of Group 1 aka “Group of Death“. England registered a 20-run clinical win over New Zealand in their Super 12 encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup at the Gabba in Brisbane on Tuesday, thanks to half-centuries from Jos Buttler and Alex Hales and a brilliant bowling effort from Sam Curran. Scenarios for semis after today’s matches of group 1 have made things a bit more complicated for teams and fans.
Australia, New Zealand, and England are really in a tight race for the semi-finals from Group 1. These three teams are standing on 5 points after 4-4 matches. Whereas from Group 2, each team has played 3 matches, and SA is on top with 5 points, with India and Bangladesh in second and third place with 4 points each. Now the net run rate plays a huge at this place.

- Remaining schedule of Group-1 in T20 WC 2022:
– NZ vs IRE, 4th Nov in Adelaide
– AUS vs AFG, 4th Nov in Adelaide
– ENG vs SL, 5th Nov in Sydney
Now all the teams in Group 1 have only 1-1 matches left to play, with New Zealand and Australia playing slightly easier matches against Ireland and Afghanistan and England facing Sri Lanka who could be a tough opponent in the end.
All these top 3 teams in Group 1 can reach a maximum of 7 points if they win their next match. In that case, the Net Run Rate will play the most critical role to decide the semi-finalists of group 1. India and South Africa are teams looking at the favorites from group 2 with India being at the number 2 spot.
Now if we assume that New Zealand and Australia win their next two matches and England loses to Sri Lanka, then obviously NRR (New Zealand) > NRR (Australia), then Australia will move to second place in the points table and Most likely to face India at semi-finals if India ends at number 1 in Group 2. If India comes second in the points table, they are likely to take on New Zealand in the semi-finals.
