The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is around the corner. The Indian team is looking to tick all the boxes and pick all the players who can add value to the team. Many senior players or players are out of favor currently but a decent run with the bat or ball can make a difference. After the World Cup ends, we have always seen some players getting dropped.
For example, we have seen Munaf Patel, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, and Virender Sehwag getting sidelined after the 2011 ODI World Cup victory. Similarly, we have seen Liam Plunkett, being ignored by the ECB after the 2019 ODI World Cup. Here is a look at the players who might not play after the ICC T20 World Cup 2022:
1) Dinesh Karthik will not be picked after the ICC T20 World Cup 2022:
Dinesh Karthik will not be picked after the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. This could be Dinesh Karthik’s last return to the Indian Cricket Team. The reason is the traffic that is behind him. Dinesh, as I believe does have the potential to play for 2 more years but the line behind him is very long and the selectors are keen on giving chances. The list includes Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, and KS Bharat. So, even if Dinesh plays an integral part in helping India to win the cup, he will be sidelined after the 2022 World Cup.
2) Shakib Al Hasan might not be picked after the ICC T20 World Cup 2022:
Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim have been carrying the weight of the Bangladesh team for a very long time. It is about time that these players work on grooming future leaders. Players like Liton Das, and Soumya Sarkar could be great candidates for captaincy. This could be Shakib’s last feature in the T20 World Cup. This living legend is keen on playing in the 2023 ODI World Cup and he will certainly play that but his T20I journey can certainly end after the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
Honorable Mentions:
- Hasan Ali
- Steve Smith
3) Ben Stokes might not be picked:
Ben Stokes made a very brave call by pulling out of ODIs even after the ECB had managed his workload. This might have left a sour taste in the mouth of a few ECB members. So, there is a possibility that the selectors can free him of his white-ball responsibilities altogether. But currently, Jos Butler will have Ben in his plans for winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. So, there is a chance that Ben might get a longer rope till the end of this World Cup, and then he will get dropped.
