T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma has been in the news since the last few days. However, the Indian captain is continuing to hog the headlines and is keeping everyone confused and guessing ahead of the IPL and World Cup.
Amid his IPL captaincy fiasco, there has been the biggest positive for him as it is learned as per the reports in Danik Jagron that Rohit Sharma will captain the team in the T20 World Cup 2024. This was confirmed by the BCCI official himself and it made many happy.
A BCCI official was asked by Dainik Jagran if Hardik Pandya would captain the team in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, replying to this, he said no and said that Rohit Sharma would be the one who would be taking charge of the team in the tournament in the USA and Caribbean.
BCCI officials clearly mentioned that Rohit Sharma is India’s captain in all three formats and that getting removed from Mumbai Indians captaincy won’t affect his position in the Indian team. The official mentioned even if Hardik Pandya is fit, Rohit will captain the team in the T20 World Cup 2024.
There were a lot of speculations that Rohit Sharma would lose his India captaincy as well after Hardik Pandya was made captain of Mumbai Indians. However, BCCI officials confirming about the development might have put a rest to various talks.
T20 World Cup 2024: Rohit Sharma removed as Mumbai Indians captain after 10 long years
In what was a shocking development, Mumbai Indians removed Rohit Sharma from captaincy after 10 long years. This came as a surprise because the senior batter captained the team to 5 title wins and one Champions League title. He was replaced by Hardik Pandya, who was recently traded to Mumbai.
There were certain reports that suggested that Hardik Pandya had already told Mumbai Indians to make him captain ahead of the trade. He had kept this as the condition. The reports also added that Mumbai Indians conveyed to Rohit Sharma before the ICC World Cup 2023 that they would be changing the captain. The senior batter, however, didn’t say anything and agreed to it.
