Australia vs India: The former Indian bowler shared his thoughts on the batting pair for the much-awaited Test series against Australia. Ashish Nehra picks his first choice openers for the test cricket and showed faith in them to play big.



The opening is something which India needs to ponder on, we cannot call it a weakness. The opening pair of the Indian team in Test format has been an issue for a while. The Men in Blue has four options for the opening slot for the test games - Prithwi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul.



Later after the second game, Rohit Sharma will join the side to provide much-needed strength. The toss-up for the slot is between Gill, Shaw, and Mayank Agarwal.



Looking at the scores of these players in the recently concluded series does not show a promising character. None of these has been consistent for the side which is a sign to worry.



<h3>Recent Forms of Openers:</h3>



Shubman Gill got a chance in the third ODI and scores 33 runs and amassed 43 and 65 in the practice game against Australia A. Mayank Agarwal got the initial start in the ODIs but failed to capitalize, getting 22 and 28 in the two ODIs and managed a duck and a half-century in the practice game.



Shaw on the other side has been lanky this time, he has duck 19, 40, and 3 runs in the recent games.



It will be a big challenge for the Indian skipper to choose the best pair for the opening but if Ashish Nehra would get the chance to pick, he will go with KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal as his initial pairs.



Rahul has been out of the test game for almost a year but has impressed everyone with his white-ball form. It would be a sparkling sign for Men in Blue if Rahul keeps his white-ball form in test format too.



<h2>I will go with Rahul and Mayank, Ashish Nehra:</h2>



?Indian Test opening is something that has been in talks every time, I would not call it a weakness but it is a concern for Virat and Co. All the four options excluding Rohit Sharma, everyone one of them has good talent but the form is not with them. I would go with Rahul and Mayank to open the batting. If Rahul gets runs in the way he is getting in White Ball format, then he can be dangerous,? Nehra said in a video on Cricbuzz.



Nehra backed Mayank Agarwal as the opening slot because of the form he showed in the previous tour of Australia in 2018-19. Mayank making his debut in Australia showed his class with 76 and 42 at MCG while scored 77 at Sydney.



Team India bagged the series with 2-1 and it was India?s first test series win in Australia after 71 years.

Australia vs India: Navdeep Saini will be a no-brainer choice if you go by cricketing logic: Ashish Nehra.



Australia vs India: The former left-arm Indian pacer Ashish Nehra says Navdeep Saini is going to be the first choice third seamer for India in the upcoming test. Nehra said Saini is a no-brainer pick for the third test match at Sydney Cricket Ground if you go by pure cricketing logic.



Both the side have been in woes by a string of injuries. Team India has already lost Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav due to wrist injury and calf injury respectively.



However, India still has two other options available apart from Navdeep Saini. Shardul Thakur and T Natarajan are also under the scanner for the third test.



?If you see at the squad composition, Navdeep Saini was the first choice while the other two, Natarajan and Shardul Thakur have been drafted in as a replacement of the injured players,? Nehra told PTI.



?So, if Saini was the first choice while selecting the squad then he must be the first choice pick of the captain and the management. I don?t see any strong reasons why he would not be picked for the third test. If you don?t go by the order then things will not be fair with Saini, to be honest,? Nehra added.



The former pacer also talked about the possible weapons in the test cricket.



<h2>Saini has extra bounce and pace: Ashish Nehra</h2>



?Saini has all the necessary things needed for test cricket. He has that cheeky bounce and extra pace too. He has been tested earlier. I don?t feel Natarajan should be given chance ahead of Saini and Thakur. Natarajan?s biggest weapons are slower balls and yorkers, players do not get trapped in these two balls as they are not trying to hit it.?



?If you want to play with Natarajan, then why didn?t you tested him by placing him in India A, like you tested Mohammad Siraj which turned out to be gold for the visitors,? Nehra added.



?Navdeep Saini has better records than Natarajan, he has featured in many red-ball games and has come up the ranks to get his place in the team. In test cricket, normally batsmen don?t get out on the tempting deliveries, you have to get them out one way or the other.?



Sydney pitches during the limited-over series were more like a flattened one, but in test cricket, it will not be the same. You will require some extra pace to trap the batsmen.



?Navdeep Saini has the ability to pitch up the ball, he has got that extra pace. You will need some pace when the Kukaburah seam will get flattened.?



These all make Navdeep Saini the best choice and according to the order, seniority, the number of games played, and his skills he will be ranked superior to Natarajan right now says, Ashish Nehra.

Vivo IPL 2021: Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra hailed the young speedster Mohammad Siraj who is performing brilliantly in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Nehra reckons that Siraj is more skilful than Mumbai Indians Jasprit Bumrah.



In the recent video posted by Cricbuzz, Ashish Nehra said that the pacer is already having a lot of variations and if he keeps his fitness up to the mark and sharpens his cricketing brain then sky is the limit for him.



?There was talk about a couple of years ago that he used to pick up 5-6 wickets in every match for India A with the red ball? (now he) is a very good all-format bowler. There is no shortage of skill, he has all type of variations. I would in fact say that skill-wise, he is even ahead of Bumrah if you talk of variations,? Nehra said in a video on Cricbuzz.



?He has a different slower one, there is no lack of speed, he can move the new ball. He needs to keep his fitness and sharpen his mind. If he can do these two things well, the sky is the limit,? Nehra added.



Mohammad Siraj is proving to be a valuable asset for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL. Sharing the new ball with Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson, he registered 50 dot balls in the IPL 2021 in just four games.



In the four games he played he has scalped five crucial wickets with an economy of 6.06.



Siraj made his Indian test debut against Australia last year. He was the lead bowler for India in the absence of senior pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ishant Sharma.



Bowling against the mighty Aussies, India retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy as they defeated Australia 2-1 in the four games series.

Gary Kirsten and Ashish Nehra to be assigned coaching roles for Lucknow based new IPL team.



IPL 2022: Former World Cup-winning coach of team India, Gary Kirsten is likely to return back to his coaching roles in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Lucknow based new IPL franchise has reportedly approached the former South African cricketer to take over as the head of coaching duties.



The reports further revealed that the franchise officials have also reached out to the former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra to be the consultant of the side. The RPSG-owned IPL franchise is yet to announce the official confirmation.



It is noteworthy, Kirsten has served IPL franchises in the past, however, he was unsuccessful in taking his side to the win. His first stint as coach of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) remained highly unsuccessful as the franchise went on to lose 20 matches out of 28 they played during 2015 and 2016.



The South African returned back to his coaching duties in 2018 with a two years contract with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Though there was a change in the jersey, this time around, but the fate remained similar. In 2018 and 2019, RCB failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Ravi Shastri?s tenure as team India?s head coach recently ended after the completion of India?s campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Though India misfired in every ICC event they played under Shastri, the bilateral records and the formidable outfit formed by Shastri is commendable.

CVC Capitals faced a serious backlash in social media after it was learnt to have connections with the big UK based betting firms. The BCCI formed a panel of legal bigwigs to investigate the matter, which is soon going to give its verdict.



The franchise is probable to get a positive signal from the Indian cricket board.

Ashish Nehra to be head coach of Ahmedabad IPL franchise in IPL 2022: In the recent row of developments, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra is all set to take up the head coach?s role in the newly announced Ahmedabad based IPL franchise in the next season of the tournament. 



Ahmedabad and Lucknow have been added to the existing eight IPL teams to boost the competition in the glamorous tournament. The addition of the two new teams will not only help BCCI to generate healthy revenue but also help in giving more opportunities to the young talents in India.



?As far as I have heard, they have signed Ashish as their head coach and someone who would be in overall charge of the franchise,? a close source said as quoted by News18.



The source further added that Vikram Solanki, former England opener, is likely to be the ?Director of Cricket Operations,? while Gary Kirsten will be a mentor in the team.



It must be noted that the Ahmedabad based IPL franchise hasn?t received the Letter of Intent (LOI) as of yet, but the team is probable to receive it in January itself.&nbsp;



?Solanki will be the ?Director of Cricket? and also expected to double up as batting coach and Kirsten will be in a mentorship role.?

The former Indian pacer was associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as the bowling coach. Interestingly Gary Kirsten has also coached RCB a couple of seasons earlier.



Both Nehra and Kirsten have a long-standing camaraderie from India days itself. Nehra was a member of the Indian squad when team India lifted ODI World Cup 2011 under Gary Kirsten?s shadow.



It should be noted that Nehra is keener on building a team from scratch and hence accepted the role of head coach in the Ahmedabad IPL franchise. The reports suggest that several IPL teams have earlier contacted the pacer for his services either as bowling coach or the mentor, however, the former speedster denied all the roles as he is more or less into building a formidable squad for a team.



The official confirmation from the Ahmedabad IPL franchise will come after it receives the Letter of Intent (LOI) from the BCCI.

Although he was a regular member of the Indian side, before he suffered a horrific back injury, and had played a string of memorable innings for the Men in Blues, his presence was never felt like it is felt in the present times. Following India's recent series victory against Sri Lanka by 2-1, Hardik Pandya revealed that he had just one captaincy stint during his whole career, before the IPL 2022. The all-rounder had led Under 16 level Baroda side, which was the only captaincy experience for him.



??I have never led in junior cricket as well. When I was U16, I had led for Baroda but after that everyone said I should concentrate on my own game and so since then I had not really led a team," Hardik Pandya told reporters after series clinching victory against Sri Lanka.



Hardik credits Gujarat Titans (GT) head coach Ashish Nehra for his leadership growth as the two aforementioned have very similar approach when it comes to cricket.



?What has been very important was the kind of coach I worked with at Gujarat Titans. Ashish Nehra made a big difference in my life - we are very similar in terms of cricketing thoughts. We might be two different personalities but when it comes to cricket we are very similar. Because I was with him, it added more value to my captaincy. It helped me to get exactly what I know. It was just about getting assurance, I always knew that I have a certain awareness of the game. It was just about kind of backing what I know already,? he said.



From being a rookie skipper in the Indian Premier League to lifting his maiden IPL trophy with Gujarat Titans (GT) and subsequently becoming a face of India's T20I side, Hardik has come a long way and its just a beginning to his growing career. Since he took charge of the Indian T20I side, Hardik has led team India to six victories in eight matches. His most recent series win came against Sri Lanka.



The 29-year old cricketer admitted that the young players will make mistakes and its part of the game but acceptance of that is very crucial otherwise things can go haywire.



?Managing (a young team) is not difficult. But, at the same point of time, it?s a young group. They will make mistakes and learn from it. We emphasise that once you make a mistake, you learn from that. Acceptance is very important in this sport. If you don?t accept it, things go very far,? he said.
