With ICC World Test Championship 2023 Final position at stake, the upcoming India vs Australia test series is going to see a tough battle between the participating teams as they gear up to steal their places for the epic final, later in the year. The four-match India vs Australia test series, popularly known as the Border Gavaskar Trophy, is scheduled to begin on February 9 in Nagpur.



Team India rewrote history when last they met Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Despite being depleted due to multiple injuries, the Indians rose up to the expectations and conquered the fortress Gabba in Brisbane to seal the four-match series 1-2. 



Notably, the forthcoming test series against Australia will decide India's position in the ICC World Test Championship points table. If India manages to conquer Australia on home soil, they will be through to the final of the WTC, however, a loss would result in either Sri Lanka or South Africa making it through to the final. 



As of now, team India stands in second position in the WTC rankings with a 58.93 winning percentage. Australia is placed atop with an unassailable win percentage of 75.56. India are followed by Sri Lanka (53.33%) and South Africa (48.72%) in the ranking chart. 



The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already announced India's squad for the first two tests which will be held in Nagpur and Delhi respectively. Captain Rohit Sharma will be back into the test side after a long hiatus due to injuries. He missed the test squad against England and Bangladesh due to injuries, however, this time the prodigy batter is fit and raring to play the BGT. He will be partnered with KL Rahul in the opening position, who is also the vice-captain of the side. 



Rohit's test numbers have soared after he was asked to open the innings. In fact, India's success in England in 2021 was highly pinned on the openers who made a solid opening stand. 



The third position will be held by veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who looked in sublime form during India's recent tour to Bangladesh. The test mainstay scored 90 and 102* in the first test and 24 and 6 in the second test against Bangladesh.

Former skipper Virat Kohli will be in the fourth position. Although Kohli has seen flourishing moments in limited-over cricket, he is yet to redeem himself in the tests. He missed the opportunity to make it big against Bangladesh and could only score 1, 19* and 24 and 1 in the two-game test series.



Shreyas Iyer will be in the fifth position in India's test playingXI. Iyer made most of the Bangladesh test series and scored big runs to seal a spot for himself on the test side. The batter played 87, 29* and 56-run knocks in the two test games.



The addition of Suryakumar Yadav to the test squad for the Australia test series may bring some exciting surprises. He is very likely to make his test debut, playing in fifth position and doing what Rishabh Pant used to do for India.



In Pant's absence, KS Bharat will assume the wicketkeeping duties for team India. Young Ishan Kishan is also named in the squad, however, Bharat will fall ahead of Kishan in the preference order.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who has been out of the Indian team for a while due to injuries is expected to make his comeback. Jadeja will play a Ranji Trophy game for his home side on 24th January before making his comeback to the Indian test side. 



Axar Patel will follow Jadeja in the numbering order. Axar has been a prominent force for India in home conditions since his debut. The spin bowling all-rounder is doing everything right to be in the playing11. Axar will be followed by veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been magical with the ball for the test side.



Looking at the pitch, which usually offers great aid to the spinners in India, the Indian management may choose to shuffle between the spinners and pacers. They can either opt for two spinners and three pacers or vice-versa in case of the conditions that would suit pacers more.

Star batsman Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma are traveling&nbsp;for spirituality. IND vs AUS: Josh Hazlewood to miss India vs Australia 1st test in Nagpur: Days ahead to the start of the most-anticipated India vs Australia test series, the visitors faced a setback in the form of an injury to one of their key pacers, Josh Hazlewood. The Aussie pacer is yet to recover from his Achilles injury, which he suffered during Australia's last test assignment against South Africa.



As per the reports, Hazlewood would miss the 1st India vs Australia test in Nagpur, while he is also a doubtful starter for the second test in Delhi. The pacer now joins his bowling partner Mitchell Starc (likely to miss 1st test due to a finger injury) and all-rounder Cameron Green (unlikely to bowl until the second test in Delhi due to a finger injury) in the casualty list.



Josh Hazlewood is also inactive in the pre-series camp in Bengaluru's Alur, where the rest of his Australian teammates are preparing to tackle the Indian challenge. 



"Not sure about the first Test. It's still a few days away but it's sneaking up pretty quickly. The second one is obviously straight after as well. So, we'll play it by ear over the next week and next few days and hopefully Tuesday goes well," Hazlewood was quoted as saying on Sunday by&nbsp;Cricbuzz.



"It?s still lingering from the (Sydney) Test match," Hazlewood said of his injury.



Hazlewood's absence on the test side will open the doors for Scott Boland's overseas debut in Nagpur, during the 1st test. Boland, who had made his six-test appearance in Australia and scalped 28 wickets including a four-fer and a five-fer, will be partnered with skipper Pat Cummins. Meanwhile, uncapped pacer Lance Morris is another option for the Aussies to play against India.



Both Pat Cummins and Scott Boland took the new ball in the match-simulation drills held at Alur on the final day before the Aussies fly to Nagpur to give a finishing to their preparations for upcoming India vs Australia test series.



<h2>Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of 1st Test:</h2>

The entire Australian test batting lineup will be under scrutiny against the likes of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel on the spinning surfaces. 



?The wicket?s going to turn here [in India] at some point, whether day one, day three or day four and he [Ashwin] is going to be in the game and bowl a lot of overs. So it?s all about figuring out how I?m going to play against him, how I?m going to score runs against him, what he might do. If you bat a long time against him, he?s going to change his game plans against you,? said Khawaja when asked how he looks forward to beating the challenge.



The Pakistan-born left-handed cricketer is hopeful to score some runs for his team through the course of four match series against India in the turning conditions. 



?He?s not the kind of guy who?ll do the same thing over and over, he?s going to try to work you out. So I?m looking forward to it. Four Test matches is a long time, so hopefully, I can do alright and score runs for my team."



He added that it's going to be a fun challenge for him and his teammates to find certain ways to score runs against the Indian bowlers in the test series, which will be held in Nagpur, Delhi, Dharmshala and Ahmedabad respectively.



"But you know what, it?s always fun. Subcontinent, playing against spin is some of the most fun you?ll have in terms of finding a way to get in and score runs, it?s quite rewarding,? Khawaja further stated.



Presently, the Border Gavaskar Trophy remains in the hands of team India after they defeated Australia away from their home in 2020-21. Despite being riddled by a string of injuries, India fought tooth and nails to breach the fortress Gaba in Brisbane in the final test to retain the coveted test cup against Australia 2-1.

During the pre-match conference, KL Rahul revealed that he is open to taking any responsibility in the team. He said if the management want's him to bat later in the batting order, he will accept that as well.



?If the team wants to me to bat in the middle, I am ready to do it," said Rahul in the pre-match press conference in Nagpur on Tuesday when asked about his batting position.



Further, he went on to say that there are chances of India picking three spinners in the playing11 because of the nature of the surfaces in India. 



?There will be a temptation to play three spinners because of the turning track in India but we would know the pitch on the day of the game. Not decided on playing XI, tough decision, couple of vacancies are there," he said.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be delighted to know that their latest recruit, Romario Shepherd, has smashed 26 off the final five deliveries of the final over against Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the International T20 (ILT20) in Abu Dhabi on January 21 (Tuesday).

With MI Emirates batting first, Shepherd entered the scene with his team in need of a strong finish. Facing Ali Khan in the last over, the hard-hitting all-rounder smashed an astonishing 26 runs off the final five balls. His innings was a clinic in clean, fearless striking:

IND vs ENG: Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his playing XI for the first T20I against England. The match between the two teams is all set to take place on Wednesday (22nd January) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India and England will be locking horns with each other in the five-match T20I series. Both teams have a mixed combination of seniors and youngsters in the team, and with the way they have played of late, it's fair to say that it will be an exciting series to watch. 
Coming to the first T20I, Ravichandran Ashwin backed Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma to open the innings for the team. The duo has been doing a decent job together as an opener and would be hoping to carry on the same form in the upcoming first match. 
Sanju Samson was at his exceptional best in the T20Is last year as he slammed three tons. While on the other hand, Abhishek Sharma hasn't been able to maintain consistency. Hence the series will be extremely important for him with the bat. 
At No.3, Ravichandran Ashwin picked Tilak Varma. The left-hander oozed his class with the bat in the last series against South Africa. He batted at No.3 and slammed two back-to-back centuries. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav, as per Ashwin, will bat at No.4.
Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Axar Patel are the three all-rounders picked by Ravichandran Ashwin in his Indian XI for the first IND vs ENG T20I. They are expected to play a major role with the bat and ball. 
Rinku Singh also has been picked by Ravichandran Ashwin in his Indian XI for the first IND vs ENG team. He will be taking the role of finisher while there was no place for Ravi Bishnoi, who hard has put a foot wrong in his T20I career. Varun Chakravarthy will be there as per Ashwin. 
Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh are the two fast bowlers picked by Ravichandran Ashwin for the first IND vs ENG XI. Shami will be making his comeback to the team after a year, while Arshdeep will be keen to make an impact.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali talked about the delay in the squad of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for the Pakistan team. He said that it might look like they are scared of announcing the team, but it seems that they don't know what to do. 
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is around the corner and all the teams have named their squad for the tournament except the hosts Pakistan. The Men in Green are yet to announce the team even though the deadline of 12th January has already been surpassed by a long margin. 
India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan have all revealed their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This has made many speculate about why Pakistan isn't announcing their squad for the tournament, which is less than one month away. 
There have been several reports that Pakistan will be announcing their squad for the tournament soon. They are awaiting the fitness of a few players, and hence, they will soon be naming the team. Some reports also have revealed the players who will be playing, but an official announcement is yet to come.

"Pakistan kya darr gaya jo abhi tak team announce nahi ki? Nahi dara nahi hai. Samajh nahi aa rahi hai -- karein to kya karein? (Is Pakistan scared to announce their squad? No, it isn't, just unsure what to do and what not). The biggest issue is whether Saim Ayub can return fit or not. It's still not clear." 
It remains to be seen when will Pakistan announce the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament is all set to take place from 19th February, with the final all set to be played on 9th March.
