<p>What an excellent all-round show put up by Bangladesh against New Zealand! A class innings by skipper Shanto and Joy, good use of bat and ball by Mominul followed by a spectacular 10-wicket haul by Taijul Islam. A near-perfect team game led Bangladesh to register a commanding 150-run victory against New Zealand in the first Test in Sylhet on Saturday (December 2).</p>



<p>Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. A fresh and almost dry surface with no swing was offered for BAN vs NZ 1st Test where the Bangladeshi batsmen enjoyed batting a lot on DAY 1. Bangladesh successfully locked in the score of over 300 in the first innings.</p>

<p>New Zealand had a tumbling start but veteran Kane Williamson held on to an end and smashed a century. Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips showed some resistance against the Bangladeshi bowling attack but couldn't hold it for long still New Zealand managed to take a 7-run lead in the first innings.</p>



<p>New Zealand succeeded and picked up early wickets but skipper Shanto hung to the crease and smoked a solid century. Wicketkeeper batter Rahim and all-rounder Miraz also smacked half-centuries and posted a huge 332-run target for New Zealand to win the first test on the 4th and 5th-day pitch.</p>

<p>This time, Bangladesh trapped the New Zealand batters and successfully picked up wickets at regular intervals. New Zealand were 7 down for just 102 runs in a chase of 332 at the end of Day 4. Bangladesh wrapped up things early in the 5th day morning and won the test by 150 runs.</p>



<p>This was the first match of Bangladesh in the new cycle of the World Test Championship and they successfully won it. They have 100% PCT points and are at the second spot in the latest ICC WTC points table replacing India. While, New Zealand on the other hand are now placed 7th in the table along with Sri Lanka, who lost two test matches to Pakistan. Pakistan are still at the top with 100 PCT points in 2 matches.</p>

<p>Would you believe that around five sessions of a Test match are washed away and still the result comes out on Day 4? That has actually happened in Dhaka today where New Zealand won the test despite losing a complete day to rain and two more sessions due to a wet outfield.</p>



<p>After trailing in the series 1-0, New Zealand knew it would be a rank-turner again but they were prepared this time. Bangladesh were good at the toss and opted to bat first. The Blackcaps bundled out the Tigers in just under 66 overs where the latter could only manage to post 172 runs. Santner and Phillips share 3-3 wickets while Azaz Patel got 2.</p>

<p>New Zealand also had a bad day at batting. They were five down for just 55 at the end of Day 1. The entire Day 2 was lost to rain and the first session of Day 3 also went uneventful. When the game restarted, the retaliation from Glenn Phillips was ruthless as he smacked 87 off just 72 and led his team to an 8-run lead at the end of their innings.</p>



<p>Bangladesh lost two wickets in the evening session at 38 runs before the play was called off due to bad lights. On day 4, Bangladesh could only add 104 runs to their overnight score as Azaz Patel's spin proved out too good for Bangladeshi batsmen. Bangladesh were all out for 144 in the second innings and New Zealand just needed 137 runs to win the match.</p>

<p>Batting wasn't easy on the Dhaka surface as New Zealand also lost 5 wickets for 51 runs. Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner then took the charge and turned on the ODI mode. Both played low-risk shots but with boundaries in every over and led their team to win the Dhaka Test.</p>



<p>With this win, New Zealand is now at number three with Bangladesh. They both won one game each in the series and possess 12 points each. Pakistan is still at the top with 100% PCT Points and they have a three-match series coming up next against Australia in Australia. They are followed by India with 66.67% PCT Points.</p>

<p>The second match of the three-match ODI series between India and England was played on 9 February (Sunday) at Barabaati Stadium of Cuttack and in this game, the Indian Team secured an easy win by a margin of four wickets and took an unassailable lead of 2-0. Skipper Rohit Sharma played a fiery knock of 119 runs in 90 deliveries, which consisted of 12 fours and seven sixes. </p>
<h2><strong>KL Rahul's below par performance with the bat continues</strong></h2>
<p>The return of Rohit Sharma to his explosive form was a good news for the Indian fans but wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul delivered yet another disappointing performance with the bat in this match as well. He returned to dugout after scoring just 10 runs and even in the previous match of the series, the 31-year-old managed to score just two runs. </p>
<p>In both games, the former LSG skipper had a chance to apply the finishing touches but, he returned to the pavilion and failed to help the Men in Blue get over the line. </p>
<p>Even in last year's Sri Lanka tour, Rahul wasn't able to do anything special with the bat, managing to score just 31 runs in two innings. Rishabh Pant replaced him in the side in the 3rd ODI. If we take a close look at his stats, then we get to know that Rahul has amassed just 43 runs in the last four One-Day International games at a miserable average of 10.75, which goes on to reflect his struggles in the format. </p>
<p>Rahul's glove work was also poor in the Cuttack ODI as his mistake led to Joe Root getting a lifeline. On his advice, skipper Rohit Sharma decided not to take the DRS review versus Root but the replays later showed that the ball was hitting the stumps.</p>
<p>After watching the replays, skipper Rohit regretted the decision of not taking the DRS and was very pissed off with KL Rahul. A wicketkeeper's advice is very important in taking a call of DRS reviews for LBW. </p>
<h2><strong>Will Pant get a chance to play in the 3rd ODI? </strong></h2>
<p>The question which arises here is, will the Indian team management carry on with KL Rahul as the main wicketkeeper in the 3rd &amp; Final ODI of the series in Ahmedabad? Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant is a part of the squad as well and the 27-year-old is a better wicketkeeper than KL Rahul and also has a lot of experience of keeping the wickets on bouncy &amp; spinning tracks. </p>
<p>The newly appointed LSG skipper has participated in 31 One-Day International matches for the Men in Blue, where he has managed to score 871 runs at a decent average of 33.50. He has also slammed five fifties and a century in the format. </p>
<p>KL Rahul, on the other hand, has amassed 2,863 runs in 79 ODI games at an average of 47.71 with the help of seven hundreds and 18 fifties. While the statistics of the latter are better than the former, constant failures of the latter with the bat is increasing the tension of the Indian team management ahead of Champions Trophy 2025.The team management would definitely want to give an attacking batsman like Pant a chance to prove himself before the commencement of the Champions Trophy.</p>

<p>Australian Women's National Cricket Team's experienced opening batter Beth Mooney has successfully won the ICC Women's Player of the Month award for January of 2025 thanks to her impressive performances during the Women's Ashesh 2025 series versus England</p>
<p>The left-handed batter saw off the competition from the duo of West Indian spinner Karishma Ramharack and Indian Cricket Team's U-19 star Trisha Gongdi to win the prestigious monthly accolade. </p>
<p>This is also the first time in her career that Mooney has won the player of the month award and the second consecutive monthly award for an Aussie star after in-form all-round Annabel Sutherland won the award in December of 2024.</p>

<p>The opener started off the ODI series slowly but she bounced back in awesome fashion with a brilliant fifty in the third One-Day International in Hobart. After the Kangaroos lost four wickets for a mere score or 59 runs, the 31-year-old played an incredible knock of 50 runs in 64 deliveries to give the Heather Knight-led team a tough fight and set the stage for the hosts to post a score of 308 runs in 50 overs and secure the victory in the contest. </p>
<p>In the T20 International series, Mooney carried on with her good form, scoring 213 runs at an amazing strike rate or 146.89 and cemented her position as the top-ranked batter. She scored 75 runs in 44 balls before going on to smash an unbeaten 94 runs off 63 deliveries in Adelaide, her highest score in the shortest format of the game in five years, to guide the Kangaroos to a dominant series victory versus their Fierce-Rivals.</p>
<p>She also won the Player-of-the-Match accolade for her incredible performances in both the first &amp; the last T20 International games of the series and she also ended the series as the highest run getter.</p>

He had informed management of this prior to Saurashtra's Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture against Punjab on December 31. Sheldon Jackson was an amazing player he ended his List A career with 2792 runs from 84 innings at an average of 36.25. The wicket-keeper batter also tallied 1812 runs from 80 T20s,</p>
<p>Sheldon Jackson also played nine games for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL match, and their performance was very amazing. He <span>scored 61 runs at an average of 10.17, with a highest score of 16 runs. His strike rate stands at 107.02, with 5 fours and 1 six.</span></p>
<p>His achievements also include the 2022-23<span> </span><strong>Vijay Hazare Trophy</strong><span> </span>season. In 86 List A matches scored a total of 2792 runs, including nine centuries and 14 fifties. In T20s, Sheldon Jackson scored 1812 runs from 84 matches, including one century and eleven half-centuries.</p>
<p>When Jackson announced his retirement, he also said, "<span>I still want to keep going in first-class cricket, at least for these two games, and then take it from there. I really don't know for how long. But my immediate focus is to try and see if I can help contribute towards us making the knockouts. It's tough, but it's still possible. And from there, I'll reassess after the two games about my red-ball future. I've had the complete support of the team, and Jaydev and Niranjan Shah. I hope I can finish on a high,</span></p>

<p>Jomel Warrican, the slow left-arm orthodox spinner of the West Indies has been crowned ICC Men's Player of the Month for January of 2025, thanks to his brilliant performance with the ball in the two-match Test Series versus Pakistan. </p>
<p>The ICC Player of the Month award recognizes the outstanding individual displays and performances of the players at the highest level of Cricket and the nominees selected for the month of January were all spin bowlers who excelled across various formats of the game. </p>
<p>Warrican faced tough competition from India's mystery leg spinner Varun Chakaravarthy and Noman Ali of Pakistan. The West Indian spinner delivered the best performance of his career with the ball versus the Shaheens and helped his team draw the two-match series. </p>
<p>In the first Test-Match, the 32-year-old ended the match with figures of 10-101 to his name which also turned out to be the best bowling figures of his career in the longest format of the game and with the bat, he played an unbeaten knock of 31* runs. </p>
<p>In the second match of the series, he carried forward his good momentum of the first contest into the second one and delivered yet another amazing performance, as he dismissed four Pakistani batters in the first inning and followed it up with a fifer in the second inning, ending the match with figures of 9-70.</p>
<p>In addition to his terrific performance with the ball, the 32-year-old also contributed 54 runs with the bat as the Windies marched their way to victory in the second encounter, thereby ensuring the series ended in a draw.  </p>
<p>Overall, Warrican scored a total of 85 runs at a good average of 42.50 and also claimed 19 scalps at an exceptional average of nine, earning him the Man-of-the-Series award. </p>
