<p><strong>India-Australia Border Gavaskar Trophy to be expanded to five test matches in next FTP cycle: </strong>The iconic Border Gavaskar Trophy is reported to have five Test matches from the next Future Tour Programme (FTP) Cycle, which will come into effect after the World Test Championship 2023.</p>



<p>The expanded five test matches series will be conducted on an alternate basis, starting in 2024 when India visits Australia.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Notably, India?s home test series against Australia, next year, won?t be expanded and will run as per the chalked-out schedule.</p>



<p>"I think it's a great initiative as it's the closest contest to an Ashes series for the Australian team," said former Australia captain Steve Waugh.</p>



<p>The Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2020-21 came very close to the iconic Ashes that is held between Australia and England. The historic series in 2020-21 set the tone for years to come as the epic rivalry between India and Australia has been ignited with the former defeating the latter in their own backyard twice.</p>



<p>Also, the addition of one more test match to the basket will boost the overall revenue for both the parties involved.</p>



<p>"It is a bonus for Australia, which is due to begin serious negotiations on another broadcast deal," The Australian recently reported giving a financial dimension to the expansion. "It is believed the four Tests were worth $400m to Cricket Australia in the most recent broadcast deal - which was part of the reason the thought of the visitors going home midway through the 2020-21 season was so alarming. An extra Test match against India ever four years will add significantly to broadcast revenues."</p>

<p>Australia will tour India in 2023 for a four-match Test series which will be part of the ICC World Test Championship qualification 2023. Both India and Australia will require winning points from this series to confirm their place in the finals of the WTC 2023.</p>



<p>India, having already lost the rescheduled fifth test match against England, must win all its remaining test matches to safely sneak to the top two rankings of WTC.</p>



<p>India?s current position is fifth with a 52.08 winning percentage. South Africa is placed at one followed by Australia, Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively.</p>

<p><strong>Team India Schedule For Home Series: </strong>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (<a href="https://www.bcci.tv/articles/2022/news/55555955/bcci-announces-schedule-for-mastercard-home-series-against-sri-lanka-new-zealand-australia?type=Latest///" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BCCI</a>) unveiled the schedule for the forthcoming home series against Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Australia on Thursday. In January, a three-match T20I and three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka will kick off the international home season.</p>

<p>The major adjustment is that Virat Kohli and India's captain Rohit Sharma may no longer be a part of India's T20 plans. <p><strong>Rishabh Pant set to miss Australia Test series, IPL 2023: Reports: </strong>Rishabh Pant's unfortunate car accident in the early hours of Friday (30th December) seems to have spoiled his half of the cricketing calendar in 2023. The Indian wicketkeeper batter, who is currently undergoing his treatment in the Max Hospital, Dehradun, is likely to remain out of action for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia and the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.</p>



<p>On 30th December, Rishabh was driving home from Delhi to surprise his mother when his Mercedes car went out of control and slammed into the dividers thereby giving major injuries to the cricketer. Fortunately, the cricketer survived a major accident and was taken to the hospital for treatment.</p>



<p>As of now, Rishabh Pant is stable and doing fine. He has suffered a couple of wounds on his forehead, injuries to his right wrist, ankle, and toe and a ligament tear on his right knee. </p>



<p>As per the doctor at AIIMS Rishikesh, who sees the sports injury department, a ligament tear usually takes three to six months of recovery period depending upon the extent of the tear, or grades.</p>

<p>"Pant will take at least three to six months to recover from the ligament injury. And if it?s severe, he may take more time. Further evaluation can be based on his detailed injury report," said doctor Qamar Azam, AIIMS Rishikesh.</p>



<p>With the injuries Rishabh has suffered, he is very likely to miss the four-match test series against Australia in 2023. The Australia tour of India 2023 will begin on 9th February in Nagpur. Moreover, his participation in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is also under threat. IPL 2023 is reported to kickstart in the first week of April.</p>

<p>Cummins reckons besides the services of frontline spinner Nathan Lyon, Aston Agar and Travis Head will also be crucial for Australia's bowling plans against India. </p>

<p><strong>Rishabh Pant Car Accident: </strong>Team India's wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, who miraculously escaped a horrifying car accident, is expected to be out of cricketing action for at least six months. A few reports also claimed that the cricketer could miss the entire cricketing calendar in 2023 owing to the injuries he has suffered on his knee.</p>



<p>Rishabh Pant met a spine-chilling accident in the wee hours of 30th December, when he was driving back home to meet his family in Roorkee. His car rammed into the road dividers before catching fire near Roorkee. He was immediately taken to a local hospital for primary care, before shifting to Max Hospital in Dehradun. </p>



<p>A week ago, the cricketer was airlifted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai at BCCI's behest. Being, India's one of the top contracted players, Pant is now under the direct supervision of Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is one of the specialist surgeons contracted by the board.</p>



<p>As per the latest medical report, Rishabh Pant has torn all three major ligaments in his knee which largely contributes to the stability and movements. Two of the three torn ligaments have been reconstructed by surgical procedures, however, the surgery for the third one is yet to be done. Pant will have to wait for at least six more weeks before he undergoes another surgical procedure to fix his third torn ligament.</p>



<p>So far, the doctors have refrained from putting a timeline on Pant's recovery time period, but the cricketer is very likely to miss a lot of international action in 2023. He will be sidelined for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, Indian Premier League (IPL) and ODI World Cup 2023, which will be held in October-November.</p>



<p>A few reports also claimed that the 25-year-old cricketer might have to sit out for at least 18 months before making his comeback. Since he is a wicketkeeper, he will have to work a lot on his knee movements and strengths.</p>



<p>?We need to understand that he is a keeper so his movements ? regular squatting, sideways movements and all ? put a lot of load on the knee. We can?t rush with it and it is going to take a lot of time,? a source close to the developments said.</p>



<p>Following all his surgical procedures, Rishabh Pant will head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore to undergo his rehabilitation program.</p>



<p>The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced <a href="https://www.bcci.tv/articles/2023/news/55555975/india-s-squads-for-mastercard-new-zealand-tour-of-india-and-first-two-test-matches-against-australia-announced?type=Latest">squads</a> for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand and for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Rishabh hasn't been named in any of the squads.</p>

<p><strong>IND vs AUS: </strong>In a major setback for the Indian side ahead of the marquee India vs Australia test series 2023, middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the 1st test match against Australia after failing to recover from his back injury. The batter won't take part in the opening test in Nagpur, starting February 9 and will straight away head to Delhi for the second fixture.</p>



<p>Shreyas Iyer had to miss out on the ongoing three-match One Day International (ODI) series against New Zealand after suffering a back injury. He travelled to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangaluru for his rehabilitation. </p>



<p>As per the reports, despite taking injections, Iyer still complained of lower back pain following which the medics in the NCA have advised him to undergo two more weeks of rest and rehab. </p>



<p>Iyer would not join the rest of his Indian test teammates in Nagpur on February 2nd for the pre-series camp. Interestingly, Shreyas Iyer's absence may bring an opportunity for Suryakumar Yadav to make his test debut in Nagpur.</p>



<p>?His injury hasn?t healed as expected and he will take two weeks at least to play cricket again. He will certainly not be available for the first Test and his availability for the second Test will be subject to his fitness report,? a source in the Indian board informed.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, it is still uncertain whether the Indian management will seek a replacement for Iyer or go ahead with a 16 minus one member test squad against Australia.</p>



<h2><strong>Ravindra Jadeja to make his test comeback against Australia</strong></h2>

<p>Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will join the Indian camp on February 2nd in Nagpur as the cricketer has successfully completed his rehab. He suffered a knee injury back in 2022 and was out of action since then. His last test appearance came when India toured England in 2022 for the postponed fifth test match of the five-match test series which was held in 2021.</p>

<p>Again, a modest record without anything remarkable really. And as a matter of fact, 90 games is a huge sample size even if the first of those was played back when he was a 15 year old. </p>



<h2 id="kishans-selection-in-the-test-squad">Kishan's selection in the Test squad</h2>



<p>Even with his numbers imploring that inconsistency is consistent with Kishan, you understand why teams tend to rate him well in white ball cricket. It is because when he gets going he can single-handedly obliterate opposition's attacks and win you matches. However, his selection in the Test team against Australia is bewildering and unfathomable.</p>

<p>With Rishabh Pant unavailable, KS Bharat - who is largely considered the best gloveman in the country - is expected to take his spot. Bharat, pretty much like Wridhimann Saha, is not the best batter who can keep wickets, but purely the best wicketkeeper. And it makes sense to pick him. After all, you need a skilled keeper on turning tracks and the fact that Ashwin, Jadeja and Axar can bat will allow India to include him in the XI. </p>

<p>Neither is Kishan the best keeper in the country, nor is his batting record worth turning heads. In fact, the Jharkhand southpaw has only played <strong>a total of 4 Ranji Trophy matches across last 3 seasons</strong>: Two in 2019/20, none in 2021/22 and again two in 2022/23. Moreover, in the two matches he played this season, he didn't even keep wickets. </p>



<p>Now compare that to, say, Akshay Wadkar who averages <strong>53.31</strong> across 60 first class innings and has been Vidarbha's first choice keeper. (Not to forget the first Test is at Nagpur, Vidarbha's home ground). Or Sheldon Jackson, who averages <strong>48.79</strong> with the bat and is a far superior gloveman. </p>



<p>Perhaps, the selectors wanted a player in the mould of Pant: left handed dasher who can take the game on and turn it on its head. Howbeit, there is the difference of day and night in the first class records of Pant and Kishan.</p>

<p>Sports can be funny at times. I am pretty sure, a lot of articles along the same lines were written for Rohit Sharma as well as Ravindra Jadeja at the beginning of the last decade. Both of them, metamorphosed into players who can walk into any international XI today. Similarly, there is little doubt about Kishan's talent and potential. Albeit, it would not be wrong to say that he hasn't quite delivered as per expectations yet. In the upcoming months, he will have the opportunities to set that right. Though, with many people biting at his heels, those opportunities will diminish fast. </p>

<p><strong>INDvsAUS Test: </strong>In the latest turn of events, team India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has once again resumed bowling in the nets ahead of all-important India vs Australia test series, giving hope for his test return midway through the series against Australia.</p>



<p>The fast bowler suffered a back injury after the England tour last year in September. He missed some of the important assignments for his team including Asia Cup 2022, and T20 World Cup 2022 and is now slated to be sidelined for the half of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. </p>



<p>Interestingly, Jasprit Bumrah was announced to make his ODI comeback during the recently held India vs Sri Lanka ODI series, however, his name was pulled back last minute as it came to light that the pacer still has a niggle and isn't completely sure of his fitness.</p>



<p>Now as per the reports available, Jasprit Bumrah has started bowling in the NCA and the medical team is sure of the pacer's comeback into the Indian side for the last two tests against Australia, if he doesn't feel any discomfort in his back.</p>



<p>"Yes, Jasprit Bumrah has started bowling in the nets," confirmed a reliable source. "Let's hope all goes well and he's declared fit."</p>
