IPL is easy money, distracting the Indian upcoming generation, says Brad Hogg: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been in the limelight for varied reasons since the inception of the tournament in 2008. The enormous success of the tournament has attracted praise as well as a layer of criticism from experts all around the world. While several pundits reckon IPL has been a boon for the Indian cricketer, some pinned down the T20 league for distracting the young generation of cricketers.



Brad Hogg, the former Australian cricketer, recently shared his views on the issue. He said because the tournament is fast-paced and involves the quick flow of cash, the young players are more excited to be a part of the tournament and not want to focus on longer formats of cricket.



"I think it is (IPL affecting Indian cricket) because the young players that are coming through the system are more focused on playing T20 IPL cricket because there is probably a little more cash in it, it's a short form, it's quick and you get the game done and dusted. It seems a bit like easier money," Brad Hogg said.



Hogg, who has played 7 Tests, 124 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 15 T20Is for Australia, added that the youngsters tend to play a lot of T20 cricket and not longer formats, they don?t know the tactics used by the bowlers to set a batter and how batters pace their innings in the ODIs and Tests.

"When they are focused on that T20 cricket scenario, they are not focused on the longer forms. They don't know how bowlers set up batters to take wickets and how batters build their innings to bat for long periods of time. It's not so much the generations that are playing international cricket right now like the Virat Kohli's and Rohit Sharma's. It's younger players that are just debuting for India that are most affected," Hogg added.



Notably, the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is likely to begin in the first week of April. Ahead of the T20 league, the BCCI will conduct the Auction which is scheduled to on 23rd December in Kochi.?



Several big players have registered for the auction and are likely to spark a bidding war among the 10 IPL teams. The likes of Joe Root, Cameron Green, Ben Stokes, Sam Curran, Kane Williamson and Jason Holder will all be in the limelight owing to their brilliant performance in the recent past.

"In the Super 8s, Australia and India have got Bangladesh (yet to qualify) and Afghanistan and you expect both teams to beat Afghanistan and Bangladesh and move through to the semi-finals, hopefully, that does happen. It sets it up for the possibility of Australia and India in a grand final which I?d absolutely love to happen,? said Hogg while speaking to Star Sports.



Among the teams who have qualified for the Super 8s are India, Australia, Afghanistan, South Africa and West Indies. The top teams that are likely to make their way are the USA, England, and Bangladesh.

Hogg reckons Australia to be on top of India when the two sides first meet on June 24 in the Super 8 fixture due to the fact that India will have less exposure of the surfaces in the West Indies as compared to Australia.



Notably, India has played all of its fixtures so far in the T20 <a href="https://icc-cricket.com">World Cup 2024</a> in the USA, which has provided help to the bowlers. The batters have faced difficulties in scoring runs, which has not let the batters find their rhythm.



"That first game between Australia and India in the super eights, the advantage would have to be to Australia because they?ve been playing in the West Indies where it?s been difficult, it?s been slow. Whereas the Indian team has been playing in New York where there?s been some seam movement, the batters haven?t been able to get their rhythm and also they?re coming from IPL where they were playing on a lot of flat wickets,? he added.
