In Samson's path stands his arch-nemesis Wanindu Hasaranga. 



Having ended up being the highest wicket-taker in the last two consecutive T20 World Cups, Hasaranga's prowess in the format doesn't need an introduction. For his record against Samson in particular, the word "domination" even might sound like an understatement.

The two have faced each other 5 times in T20 matches. Hasaranga has got Samson out all 5 times. In fact, the explosive batter has a miserable strike rate of 73.5 against the leg-spinner. Samson averages 5 against him and three out of every four balls Hasaranga bowls to him are dot balls.

Shanaka has made over 25% of his T20I runs against India. Having scored runs at a strike rate of 169.33 for the entire season of the Lanka Premier League, he comes into this series with some form behind him. Although he has always found it tough against leg-spinners.



In his international career, Shanaka has been dismissed by leg spin 27 times and averages a meagre 14.41 against it. As a matter of fact, his otherwise handsome-looking strike rate of 141.45 in T20 cricket overall plummets to 110.19 against wrist spin. In other words, it would be wise to hold an over or two of Yuzvendra Chahal for Shanaka.

With Gunathilaka not in the team anymore and Rajapaksa poised for a finishing role, Asalanka is the sole left-hander in the top 4. And he is indeed a very good one. On sluggish tracks in the U.A.E., Asalanka was Sri Lanka's top scorer in the 2021 T20WC, averaging 46 and scoring at a strike rate of 147. 



He would be crucial in defusing one of India's potent weapons: Axar Patel. Axar looked a league above everyone else last time India played a T20I series at home. He was, in fact, <a href="https://hindi.icccricketschedule.com/cricket/news/axar-patel-became-player-of-the-series-in-the-series-against-australia/">the player of the series</a>. Expect Sri Lanka to promote Asalanka in the order to counter Axar. 



The two have, interestingly, never faced off in white ball cricket. They have in the longer format though. Axar has dismissed Asalanka twice and has never conceded a run to him in Test Cricket.

Asia Cup 2023: The most important and exciting match of the Asia Cup 2023 was played today between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at Sri Lanka's home ground, R. Premadasa Stadium. In this nail-biting match, defending champion Sri Lanka qualified for the final of the Asia Cup 2023 by defeating Pakistan in the last ball. Sri Lanka won against Pakistan in an ODI International after eight years.



Due to rain, the match could not start on time, and eight overs were cut in both innings. Pakistani captain Babar Azam won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, the men in green scored 252 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in 42 overs. For Pakistan, opener batsman Abdullah played an inning of 52 runs, while wicketkeeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan played an inning of 86 runs in 73 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes. Apart from him, 33-year-old Iftikhar Ahmed also played an inning with 47 runs in 40 balls.



Chasing the target of 252 runs, the Sri Lankan team changed the target in the last ball and made it to the final of the Asia Cup 2023. For Sri Lanka, wicketkeeper batsman Kusal Mendis played the highest innings of 91 runs. 26-year-old Charith Asalanka was the hero for Sri Lanka, scoring 49 runs in 47 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes. While wickets were falling one by one, Asalanka remained standing and showed their brilliant game. He hit the winning shot in the last ball to take Sri Lanka to the final of the Asia Cup 2023.

Prithvi Shaw did not find any takers as the Mumbai batter went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. Prithvi, who had a base price of Rs 75 lakh in the auction, was released by Delhi Capitals but he did not attract any bids from the ten franchises.
Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has said that Prithvi Shaw is misunderstood in many ways but needed a 'jolt' in the form of the IPL 2025 Auction snub. Shaw has been part of the Delhi franchise since returning as the U-19 World Cup winning captain in 2018 and was bought for 1.2 Crores. Ahead of the 2022 auction, the Mumbai batter was retained by DC for Rs. 7.5 Crore but the past few seasons hasn't been great for the 25-year-old.
Speaking to Sports Today, Jindal said that Shaw is a great kid but needed a jolt to get up from his slumber. The DC co-owner feels that Shaw needs to work hard, get back the love of the game and get disciplined. Jindal ended by saying he hopes the Mumbai batter can return back to his best form
Delhi has backed Prithvi Shaw a lot. DC had hoped that he is a powerplay player and would hit 6 boundaries in one over. And he did that too. He hit Shivam Mavi for 6 fours in an over. Kieron Pollard replaced skipper Nicholas Pooran, but the seasoned right-hander struggled to get going and was eventually sent out for five by Ali Khan. Following Dan Mousley's dismissal for six, Romario Shepherd joined his skipper for the innings' last stretch. Jason Holder made a solid 49, but Pooran, who was hitting it cleanly, was almost at his half-century before he fell.

But Narine was caught at cover for 13 in the 18th over, and David Willey was dismissed by Fazalhaq Farooqi in the 19th. The MI Emirates won easily, and Russell, who was still undefeated at 37 from 23 deliveries, was unable to lead his team across the finish line.

IND vs ENG: Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his playing XI for the first T20I against England. The match between the two teams is all set to take place on Wednesday (22nd January) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
India and England will be locking horns with each other in the five-match T20I series. Both teams have a mixed combination of seniors and youngsters in the team, and with the way they have played of late, it's fair to say that it will be an exciting series to watch. 
Coming to the first T20I, Ravichandran Ashwin backed Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma to open the innings for the team. The duo has been doing a decent job together as an opener and would be hoping to carry on the same form in the upcoming first match. 
Sanju Samson was at his exceptional best in the T20Is last year as he slammed three tons. While on the other hand, Abhishek Sharma hasn't been able to maintain consistency. Hence the series will be extremely important for him with the bat.

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali talked about the delay in the squad of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 for the Pakistan team. He said that it might look like they are scared of announcing the team, but it seems that they don't know what to do. 
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is around the corner and all the teams have named their squad for the tournament except the hosts Pakistan. The Men in Green are yet to announce the team even though the deadline of 12th January has already been surpassed by a long margin. 
India, Australia, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan have all revealed their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This has made many speculate about why Pakistan isn't announcing their squad for the tournament, which is less than one month away. 
There have been several reports that Pakistan will be announcing their squad for the tournament soon. They are awaiting the fitness of a few players, and hence, they will soon be naming the team. Some reports also have revealed the players who will be playing, but an official announcement is yet to come.

No, it isn't, just unsure what to do and what not). The biggest issue is whether Saim Ayub can return fit or not. It's still not clear." 
It remains to be seen when will Pakistan announce the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament is all set to take place from 19th February, with the final all set to be played on 9th March.
