The Ashes 2023: One of cricket's oldest rivalries will be on display in the Ashes 2023 fixture between England and Australia. Jofra Archer Injury Updates: Since his injury almost two years ago, Archer has only made a few outings to the ground. The nightmare hunts Jofra back at IPL 2023 when he just began playing shorter forms after recovering from back and elbow injuries a few months ago. Jofra Archer has been ruled out of The Ashes and the rest of English summer.



A terrible string of injuries has plagued the skilled right arm fast. Due to elbow and back issues, Archer missed nearly two years of international cricket before making a comeback earlier this year. Archer hasn't played a Test since March 2021. According to the ECB, the 28-year-old will now spend time focusing on his injury management with the Sussex and England medical divisions.

The English and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that Archer was "pushing through the discomfort" while playing and it had been "challenging" last week when he had to leave the Indian Premier League early owing to discomfort in his problematic right elbow.

Ashes 2023: England announce 16-member squad for first two Test against Australia: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has finally announced its 16-member squad for the first two test matches against Australia for the upcoming Ashes 2023. The cricket board has named the same test squad that faced Ireland in the one-off test recently.



The Men's Ashes 2023 between England and Australia is scheduled to begin on June 16 in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The five-match series will then advance to Lord's London followed by a game in Leeds, Manchester and Kennington Oval respectively.



The 16-member England squad for the first two tests of the Ashes 2023 include Josh Tongue, who was impressive in his debut game against Ireland. Tongue picked three wickets on day two of the contest and helped England close in on a comprehensive win at Lord's. 



It is important to note that England's only match preparation before Ashes 2023 is with Ireland, the game which is likely to be wrapped up anytime soon. England has reduced Ireland to 356/8 in the second innings after notching up a massive 524 runs in the first innings.

Moeen Ali Fined for Level 1 breaching of ICC Code of Conduct: With the first of the five matches being played in Birmingham, the Ashes are now underway. England's Moeen Ali has been penalized 25% of his match fee for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct while on the first Test against Australia on Saturday.



The incident took place in the 89th over of Australia's innings when Ali, violating the umpires' pre-series directive to not use anything on their hands without prior consent, sprayed a drying agent on his bowling hand near the boundary line before going on to bowl the next over.



Article 2.20 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which deals with acting in a manner that is against the spirit of the game, was determined to have been broken by Moeen Ali. For violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct, Moeen's disciplinary record has been amended with one demerit point. This was the first offense for the England all-rounder in the last 24 months.

Australia has suffered a massive blow ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that captain Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood are all set to be ruled out of the tournament, which will begin on 19th February. 
Pat Cummins suffered an ankle injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and missed the ongoing Test tour to injury due to the same and also the birth of his second child. The fast bowler since then has been out of action and hasn't resumed any kind of bowling. 
Pat Cummins hasn't gained his full fitness and it is highly likely that he will be missing the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This will be a massive blow as not only will they miss the quality bowler but also the captain, who took them to win the ICC World Cup 2023. 
In the absence of Pat Cummins, Australia is likely to give the leadership role to either Travis Head or Steve Smith. The latter has been leading the team in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka, and under his leadership, Australia won the first game of the series by a massive margin. 
The development was confirmed by Australia head coach Andrew McDonald, saying that Pat Cummins is highly likely to be unavailable. He also talked about giving leadership roles to Steve Smith and Travis Head. Speaking to SEN, he said:
"Pat Cummins hasn't been able to resume any type of bowling so he's heavily unlikely, so that would mean that we do need a captain. Especially in the absence of legendary pacer Bumrah, Shami is the most experienced pacer to lead the Indian pace attack. 
 
Ever since the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Shami will play his first one-day international match, supposedly at the Vidarbha Stadium tomorrow. Ahead of the vital clash, Mohammed Shami will enter the field with 195 wickets to his name in the longest limited-overs format.

Shami, the Indian fast bowler, began his journey from the T20 Trophy starring for Bengal back in 2010, where he had one of the best debuts ever. Shami played for several franchises in the IPL the Delhi Daredevils, Punjab Kings, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kolkata_Knight_Riders">Kolkata Knight Riders</a>, and Gujarat Titans, where he picked 127 career wickets in the franchise-level cricket tournament. 
 
Shami has played over three World Cups for India ever since his debut in 2013, as he has been India’s highest wicket-taker in the history of the CWC, playing over three editions in 2015, 2019 and 2023. With 450+ career wickets in the Men in Blue’s jersey, Shami, despite participation in several WTC and CWC games, could never be seen on the podium, though he won several individual records, the last being named the Player of the Tournament in the 2023 World Cup.

The current Indian selection committee head,<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajit_Agarkar"> Ajit Agarkar</a>, picked the fastest 200 wickets for India as the veteran pacer achieved the feat in just 133 games and ended his career with 288 wickets in the format. 
 
So far, only 7 Indian bowlers have crossed the 200-wicket mark; Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath have picked over 300+ ODI wickets, while Zaheer Khan, Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh, Kapil Dev, and Ravindra Jadeja have also picked over 200 wickets for the Men in Blue.

In what promises to be an exciting and thrilling contest, Steve Smith-led Australia and Dhananjaya de Silva's Sri Lanka are set to lock horns versus each other in the second and the last match of the two-match Test-Series at the Galle International Stadium of Galle from the 6th of February onwards (Wednesday). 
In the opening encounter of the series, the Mighty Aussies secured a comfortable victory by an inning and 242 runs and this win helped them to take an unassailable lead of 1-0 in the two-match series. In such a situation, the Dhananjaya de Silva-led Sri Lanka would be looking to make a strong comeback by rectifying their mistakes in the second match.

While the Australian team management would be happy to see him performing, they might be a little worried in the 2nd match as experienced left-arm spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya can trouble him a lot.

He also got the better of the Southpaw in the opening encounter, dismissing him when he was batting on the score of 232 runs and Jayasuriya would be looking to get the better of Khawaja again in the final match of the series.
