ECB announce Ben Stokes as England?s new Test Captain, succeeds Joe Root: England Cricket Board (ECB) on Thursday announced premier all-rounder Ben Stokes as the new skipper of England Men?s Test side. Ben will succeed Joe Root, who stepped down from the role earlier this month. Stokes has been named as England?s? 81st test captain.



The development was confirmed by ECB through various tweets and posts on social media, congratulating the all-rounder for the new innings in the traditional format of cricket. ?Congratulations to our new Men's Test captain, @benstokes38!? wrote England Cricket in a tweet.

Kiwi Brendon McCullum named as England?s test head coach: New Zealand's former cricketer, Brendon McCullum has been named as England?s test team head coach. The England Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the big development on Thursday.



Brendon McCullum will be replacing former England coach Chris Silverwood, who left his role earlier this year in February following England?s 4-0 embarrassing defeat in the all-important Ashes 2021-22 in Australia.



Notably, since Silverwood?s exit assistant coach Paul Collingwood was named as the interim head coach of England?s national side.



"We are delighted to confirm Brendon as England Men's Test Head Coach. It has been a real privilege to get to know him and understand his views and vision for the game. I believe his appointment will be good for England's Test team," Managing Director of England's Men's Cricket Rob Key said.?

England break their own record for highest ODI score against Netherlands, scores 498: England men?s cricket team has broken its own world record of the highest One Day International (ODI) total with a total of 498 against the Netherlands in the ongoing first ODI at VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen. The English batters tormented the opposition with their dynamic batting and notched up two less than 500 in 50 overs.



Phil Salt and Dawid Malan laid a strong foundation with their individual centuries following which wicketkeeper batter Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone wreaked havoc to register a new record in the 50-overs format.



England?s previous best record in the One Day cricket was 481 runs against Australia in 2018. Adding the recent total of 498, England now has three highest scores in the ODI history. They had also registered 444 runs total against Pakistan in 2016.



Dawid Malan muscled 125 runs in 109 deliveries while Phil Salt scored 122 in 93 deliveries. Following the dismissal of Malan and Salt, Jos Buttler picked his pace and stitched an excellent partnership with Liam Livingstone.

Livingstone completed his fifty in just 17 balls as he went on to score an unbeaten 66 runs in just 22 deliveries.



The match is currently underway between Netherlands and England. The former side is batting at a score of 75 with the loss of one wicket in 13 overs. Max Odowd and Musa Ahmed have stitched 60 runs partnership and are going strong in the long chase.

Jos Buttler named Eoin Morgan?s successor for England in white-ball cricket: Senior wicketkeeper batter Jos Buttler has been named as England?s white-ball captain after seven years of service as the vice-captain of the side. Buttler ?will take his game to a new level,? predicted Rob Key, managing director of England?s men?s Cricket after naming him the skipper of the white ball squad.



Buttler, 31, has earned tremendous respect as the leader of the group while he acted as Eoin Morgan?s deputy. Notably, the glovesman was initially awarded the vice-captain?s duties on the special request from then skipper Eoin Morgan ahead of the 2015 ODI World Cup.



So far, Jos has already led England in 14 international matches being a stand-in skipper of the side. His latest captaincy duty was against the Netherlands in the third ODI after then skipper Eoin Morgan was injured.



Buttler?s first assignment as the full-time leader of England will be against India in the three matches T20I series which will begin on July 7 in Ageas Bowl. Following the T20I series, Buttler will lead his side against India in ODIs as well.

As per the report of 'Times London', the IPL franchises are making giant strides in T20 cricket by striking multi-million dollar contracts to six premier English cricketers to quit international cricket altogether and provide their services to the IPL teams, who now have their bases in top T20 leagues across the globe, including, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), the SA T20 League (SAT20) in South Africa, the ILT20 League of UAE and the upcoming Major League Cricket in the USA.



The deals offered by the IPL franchises are roughly close to 5 million pounds?which equal INR 50 Crores.



As of now, there is no mention of the IPL franchises, that have offered such a lucrative deal to the England cricketers, and the cricketers have been presented with such deals.



'The Times? report quoted, ?Initial discussions have taken place after at least six English players, including some international stars, were approached by IPL franchise owners and asked whether, in principle, they would accept a deal that would make an Indian team their main employer, rather than the ECB or an English county."



Interestingly, the move to make T20 franchises the main employer rather than the respective cricket board isn't new to the world of sports. This principle is widely used in Football where the elite players are primarily contracted by the premier Football franchises and play for their respective franchises across the globe. The players get released by the Football franchises to take part in World Cups, which happens other way around in cricket.



?This development follows discussions among players? unions around the world about the potential implications of 12-month franchise contracts, which would be a significant step towards the football model of elite players being primarily contracted to their team and released for international duty, rather than the other way around," read the report further.



Some sources close to the development said that such deals could be executed by the end of the year. The clarity on the development will come in the upcoming months as we head closer to this model.



With T20 leagues growing across the world, there is no denying such models where cricketers will be getting a comprehensive contract to play for their teams throughout the year.



Notably, as per the reports, earlier, such deals were offered to the Australian players as well, but now the English players have also become a part of it. 



?Discussions have already taken place with a number of high-profile Australian players about full-time deals but this has now been extended to English players. Contracts could be worth upwards of GBP 2 million a year and even as high as GBP 5 million more than five times the value of the highest England central contracts."



If the IPL franchises execute such deals with top Australian and England cricketers, it would be a massive step towards the future of T20 cricket. Furthermore, it will also have an impact on international cricket, which is alive for now due to the participation of the top cricketers in the world.

India tour of England 2025: Lord's, Oval among others named to host India: The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on Wednesday announced the venues for its home calendar for the next seven-year cycle which runs from 2025 to 2031. As a part of future tour plans, ECB has revealed the venues for highly anticipated games in its forthcoming cycle.



The England Cricket Board has picked a few of its most prestigious stadiums to host important matches in its next seven-year calendar. The ECB has rolled out venues of the famous Pataudi Trophy 2025 and 2029 &amp; the Ashes 2025 and 2031.



The celebrated Pataudi Trophy between India and England in 2025, which comprise five test matches will have its fixtures at the Lord's and the Oval cricket ground in London, Headingly in Leeds, Old Trafford in Manchester and Edgbaston in Birmingham. 



Meanwhile, during the 2029 Pataudi Trophy, the Ageas Bowl in Southampton, where the first edition of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 was held, will replace Headingly in Leeds. The other four venues will retain their chances of hosting the India vs England games in 2029.



Richard Gould, CEO ECB, said by announcing the venues of the most anticipated games beforehand gives the opportunity for the cricket grounds to equip with better facilities and technologies. 



?By announcing arrangements for the next seven years, we are also giving venues long-term certainty so that they can invest sustainably into stadium improvements and improved fan experiences,? said Richard Gould, ECB CEO.



The last Pataudi Trophy in 2021-22, England vs India five-match test series, ended in a 2-2 draw. The final game of the five-match series was postponed after the covid-19 outburst in the Indian camp in England. The BCCI and ECB, later, worked out a deal to reschedule the fifth test in 2022 along with a couple of limited-over games.



It's noteworthy that England plays five-match test series only with India and Australia. The first five-match test series between India and England was held in 2014.
