The ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to be held in the 50-overs format may change to the shorter, 20-overs format. </p>



<p>As per the report published in the Guardian, Disney Star, the official broadcaster for the Champions Trophy 2025, is of the view to have a change in the format of the showpiece competition to be held in Pakistan. The official reasons for the same are yet to be revealed.</p>



<p>Notably, if the reports come true the 50-overs format may witness its end sooner than later. The next 50-over ICC event after the ongoing World Cup 2023 is scheduled for 2027 in South Africa if the Champions Trophy 2025 gets a makeover to the T20 format.</p>



<p>The only thing that has kept alive the sheen of ODI cricket is the glorious World Cup event which happens at intervals of four years. The fans have shifted their interests to the shorter formats, even the players have taken it on themselves to not take part in the 50-over matches.</p>

England went past Pakistan convincingly in Kolkata to end their World Cup 2023 campaign on a strong note with two wins on the bounce and subsequently completing their qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025.</p>



<p>Earlier, Pakistan, as host, became the first team to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025. India, meanwhile, qualified for the World Cup 2023 Semi-Final and subsequently was confirmed to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025. </p>



<p>Notably, the top seven ranked teams in the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table, along with Pakistan, as hosts, will confirm their ticket for the Champions Trophy.</p>



<p>So far, seven places have been filled and the remaining slot will be filled today, as India takes on the Netherlands in Bengaluru, which will also mark an end to the World Cup 2023 league stage fixture. The knockout games will begin on November 15.</p>



<p>Bangladesh and Netherlands still have a chance to qualify for the Champions Trophy 2025. While the former side is sitting in the eighth position, the latter is at the bottom of the points Table with 4 points apiece. Netherlands's win over India in the last league stage fixture of World Cup 2023 will hand them the qualification ticket for the Champions Trophy, thereby eliminating Bangladesh from the race.</p>



<p>The win against India would take the Netherlands to six points, however, Bangladesh will remain at four points only. However, if the Netherlands faces a defeat, then Bangladesh will automatically take over the final spot in the Champions Trophy 2025 qualification.</p>

<p><strong>No change in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Venue, Pakistan signs hosting rights agreement with ICC: </strong>In an important development, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has signed the hosting rights agreement of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2024 with the International Cricket Council (ICC), the cricket board announced on Friday. </p>



<p>The agreement was signed by PCB chief Zaka Ashraf at the ICC headquarters located in Dubai. ICC General Counsel Jonathan Hall was present during the signing of the documents.</p>



<p>Notably, a few weeks ago reports circulated all over the internet relating to the shift in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 venues. It was rumoured that due to looming security issues in Pakistan, the ICC could shift the tournament to a neutral country.</p>



<p>"Chairman PCB Management Committee Mr Zaka Ashraf was joined by ICC General Counsel Jonathan Hall in the signing of the hosting rights to Pakistan at the ICC headquarters," the PCB said in a statement.</p>



<p>The cricket board has already started preparations for the mega ICC event scheduled to be held in 2025. The Pakistani government has also been informed about the development and necessary steps are being taken to boost the security parameters.</p>



<p>"The PCB in its capacity has already intimated the government to provide foolproof security to visiting international teams for the Champions Trophy. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar in a recent meeting with Chairman PCB Management Committee assured the security agencies? cooperation in the successful hosting of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025."</p>



<p>Pakistan last hosted an ICC event back in 1996 which was won by Sri Lanka. The country was also set to host the Champions Trophy in 2009 and a couple of matches of the World Cup in 2011, however, ICC withdrew the hosting rights from Pakistan following a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan Cricket team's Bus in Lahore in 2009.</p>



<p>Although Pakistan has signed the hosting agreement with the ICC, it remains to be seen whether the BCCI will allow its players to participate in the event, which seems highly unlikely. The Indian government has held its stance of cutting down all sorts of engagement with Pakistan should the country continue to exercise cross-border terrorism. </p>



<p>The Asia Cup 2023, which was to be hosted by Pakistan in September, was shifted into a hybrid model due to BCCI's reluctance to travel to Pakistan for the tournament. Consequently, a few matches of the tournament were held in Pakistan, and the remaining games, including Team India's matches, were shifted to Sri Lanka.</p>



<p>A similar approach could be adopted for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 if India refuses to travel to Pakistan. </p>

<p>The reports of the Champions Trophy 2025 emerged as the ICC's board meeting is underway in Dubai. While the meeting has nothing to do with the Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, is looking to have some discussions with the BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, and the ICC officials on the sidelines of the meeting.</p>



<p>If the reports are to be believed, the PCB chair wants to seek some assurance either from the BCCI or the ICC big-wigs as they prepare to host the Champions Trophy 2025.</p>



<p>"Every member can raise concerns for discussion at Board meetings and then it would go to a vote. But if the government (of a member nation) expressly say that they can't play there, ICC would need to look for an alternative," a veteran administrator, who has attended multiple board meetings, told PTI on conditions of anonymity.</p>



<p>"....because ICC Board's position remains that it doesn't expect its members to go against any policy/instructions issued by its own government," he said.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>BCCI might take softer stance for Champions Trophy 2025</strong></h2>

<p>It's worth noting that the Pakistani government had allowed its players to visit India in 2023 for the ODI World Cup. Despite Pakistan's statements of not travelling to India ahead of the event, they decided to give clearance to their players.</p>



<p>Moreover, unlike the Asia Cup 2023, which is a continental tournament, the Champions Trophy 2025 is a global event, which might prompt the BCCI or the Indian government to take a softer stance.</p>



<p>"The BCCI would obviously be compelled to look at it from the point of view that the Pakistan government allowed its team to play in the World Cup in India last year.</p>



<p>"So, this being a global event and not a continental one like the Asia Cup, the Indian government might take a softer stance. BCCI president Roger Binny and VP Rajiv Shukla had travelled to Pakistan during the Asia Cup," hoped the ICC board member.</p>



<p>However, the ultimate decision to send Indian players to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 remains with the Indian government. It remains to be seen what's in the store as far as India's visit to Pakistan is concerned in 2025.</p>

<p><strong>Champions Trophy 2025: </strong>The International Cricket Council (ICC) has, reportedly, marked a 20-day window for the next big ICC event - the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament is expected to kickstart on February 19, 2025, and the summit clash is set to be held on March 09.</p>



<p>The 20-day window will accommodate the eight-team event in Pakistan as per various details shared with the member countries by the ICC. Though the exact details of the fixtures for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 have not been revealed, it can be ascertained that the tournament will be held in the aforementioned 20-day period.</p>



<p>The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is returning after a hiatus of six years. The last time it was held in 2017, which saw India and Pakistan clash in the final at the Oval, with the fixture going in the favour of Pakistan.</p>



<p>As per the report published on cricbuzz, a tentative schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been shared with the member boards so that they can manipulate their bilateral fixtures and league tournament schedule accordingly. </p>



<p>The ILT20 is scheduled between January 11 and February 09 in 2025, which is pretty much close to the scheduling of the SA20, which will run between January 09 and February 08.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Team India's travel to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025 Uncertain</strong></h2>

<p>Meanwhile, the uncertainty around Team India's participation continues with the Government of India exercising its unwavering stance against Pakistan. Government officials have often asserted that the Indian team wouldn't travel to Pakistan for any cricket engagement till the neighbours don't cease to nurture cross-border terrorism. The official confirmation of Team India's travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is still awaited. </p>



<p>Should India not travel to Pakistan, the tournament may shift into a hybrid model with some of its matches to be held in the UAE. The Asia Cup 2023 was held in a similar format after Team India declined to travel to Pakistan and the event was then held in the hybrid venue. Some matches were held in Pakistan, while the rest were staged in Sri Lanka.</p>



<p>Sources in the know believe it's too early to comment on whether Team India would travel to Pakistan or not. A clearer picture will be out in the coming months as more development takes place.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, if India travels to Pakistan, Lahore would likely host all the matches featuring Team India. The venue has been earmarked due to it's proximity to the border to felicitate a smooth travel of the fans from India as well.</p>

<p><strong>PAK vs BAN: </strong>Following Pakistan's early exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has moved on and has been finalising the venues for the upcoming Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2024. The complete itinerary of the tour is being discussed among the officials and plans are being worked out.</p>



<p>As per the reports, Pakistan and Bangladesh are set to engage in a two-game Test series in Pakistan. The series is expected to be played in August 2024 in Rawalpindi and Multan. The two-match PAK vs BAN test will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle. </p>



<p>Notably, the most prominent stadiums in Pakistan are undergoing an upgrade to host the prestigious ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which shrinks the overall stadium base for PCB to pick to host the PAK vs BAN test series.</p>



<p>Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium is undergoing some changes and after the completion, Karachi's National Bank Stadium will also be revamped to accommodate the Champions Trophy needs.</p>

<p>The degradation of the prominent venues across Pakistan leaves PCB with very few options to pick from. As of now, Rawalpindi and Multan have emerged as the top contenders for hosting the Pakistan vs. Bangladesh test series in August.</p>

<p>While the Government of India (GOI) has time and again reiterated its stance of not visiting Pakistan for any cricket action, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is hopeful of Team India's visit to their land for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. </p>



<p>A few local reports hinted at some positive developments taking place, which enhance India's chances of visiting Pakistan.</p>



<p>The draft schedule has been submitted to the ICC by the PCB officials and now it only awaits clearance from the apex cricket board. The details of the ICC <a href="https://icc-cricket.com">Champions Trophy</a> 2025 schedule are likely to be revealed to the participating cricket boards very soon.</p>



<p>Notably, Team India's fixture in the tournament is likely to be held in Lahore, as per the reports. Lahore's proximity to the border will felicitate the smooth travel of fans, who wish to witness Team India's contest.</p>

<p>ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be played between 19 February to 9 March 2025. Initially cancelled after the 2017 edition, the ICC Champions Trophy is set to return in 2025. The ICC decided to revive the tournament to provide more international competitions in the ODI format. The 2025 edition will be held in Pakistan, marking the country's first major international tournament since co-hosting the 1996 Cricket World Cup.</p>

<p>Pakistan was confirmed as the host on 16 November 2021 during the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. This will be a significant event for Pakistan, showcasing its ability to host international cricket after the disruption caused by the 2009 terrorist attacks on the Sri Lanka national cricket team.</p>



<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="qualification">Qualification</h3>



<p>Eight teams will participate, including Pakistan as the host and the top seven teams from the 2023 Cricket World Cup group stage. Notably, Sri Lanka failed to qualify, while Afghanistan will make its first appearance in the tournament.</p>

<p><strong>AUS vs ENG</strong>: The Champions Trophy is back and is scheduled to be played in Pakistan in 2025. Just like several other teams, the mighty Aussies are also looking to consolidate their hold on the format with several new players who are replacing the likes of the veterans, who were a part of Australia?s World Cup-winning squad in 2023. <br> <br>First among them and probably the greatest would be David Warner, the veteran who has been a huge slave to Australian cricket and retired from all formats of the game recently after the end of the T20 World Cup. Warner was seen opening alongside Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh in the last World Cup; however, the Aussies will be in the quest for a batter to replace him in the role. </p>

<p>Veteran pacers Josh Hazelwood, Mitchell Starc, and all-rounders Glenn Maxwell, as well as veteran batter Steven Smith, are all either too old or lacking in form. Though they have chances to feature in the Champions Trophy, the Aussies would look to land some replacements for them in the long run. <br> <br>With the Champions Trophy in sight, Australia will have their first breakthrough series in the format to access their experiments in the 50-over format, and the outing will be a tour of England in the upcoming contest on September of 2024. <br> <br>The first breakthrough for a player has been for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Fraser-McGurk">Jake Fraser-McGurk</a>. <p>Considering Travis Head?s unstoppable form for over 2 years now, he remains Australia?s constant surprise across all formats of the game, and so will he be seen against England in the ODIs. <br> <br>Though the likes of Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have been picked for the ODIs, Team Australia would undoubtedly look to bring out some of their experiments, including players like Cameron Green and Josh Inglis in the role. <p>With Marcus Stoinis set to miss the England tour, several Aussie players have been looking to land themselves in the role, with the biggest contenders among them being Cam Green as well as Aaron Hardie. <br><br>In the absence of World Cup-winning skipper Pat Cummins, the Aussies will be led by Mitchell Marsh, and the pace bowling will be shepherded by veteran pacer Mitchell Starc, with Hazelwood, Hardie, Ellis, Abbott, and Zampa being their only spinners.
