Suryakumar finished the 2022 season as the player with the most runs scored by shattering numerous records. Surya, the ICC Men's T20I Cricketer of the Year, had one of the best years ever for a player in the history of the 20-over-format.

In the 2022 season, Suryakumar made history by becoming the first Indian batter to register 1000 runs or more in a calendar year. He also dethroned Pakistan's Mohammad Rizwan to become the new No. 1 batter in the ICC T20I rankings last year.



Suryakumar Yadav had a fantastic year with the bat, shattering a number of records and establishing a standard that had never been reached in the format. He finished the year as the top run-getter, scoring 1164 runs at an insane strike rate of 187.43, making him just the second batter in the T20 internationals to score more than 1000 runs in a calendar year.

Surya Kumar was spectacular at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, scoring three fifty in six innings and averaging around 60. It's noteworthy that his strike rate was once again just there around 189.68. Surya, who had already scored a century back in the year, maintained his stellar year after the multi-nation event, scoring his second century of the year in T20Is in the bilateral series in New Zealand.



SKY blasted remarkable 68 sixes during the year, easily the most ever in a calendar year in the history of the game. The Indian, who scored two hundreds and nine half-centuries, was India's primary hitter during the entire year.

Picking up the world's top T20I players, you can't skip Surya at any cost. Just look at those numbers: 1164 runs in 31 innings, with a nasty 187.4 strike rate and an average of over 46. Suryakumar made his Twenty20 International debut against England in 2021 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. In his T20I career, he has scored three centuries and thirteen half-centuries. The 32-year-old has amassed 1578 runs for Team India in 45 T20 International matches.

ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year Award: The ICC Men's cricketer of the Year Award is one of the ICC Awards that ICC announces every year to the best performer of the past 12 months. The ICC Awards are a collection of yearly sports awards for international cricket that reward and acknowledge the top players from the preceding 12 months. The International Cricket Council (ICC) launched the awards in 2004. The awards were referred to as the LG ICC Awards from 2009 to 2014 due to sponsorship.



The ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year Award is often called the Sir Garfield Sober Trophy. Actually, the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy is a cricket trophy presented by the International Cricket Council to the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year yearly. It is regarded as the most prestigious of the annual ICC Awards and was first given to Rahul Dravid in 2004.

A committee made up of Richie Benaud, Sunil Gavaskar, and Michael Holding decided to honor Sir Garfield Sobers, a former West Indies cricket captain, by naming the trophy after him. The ICC asked them to decide on "a person with whom to honor cricket's greatest individual award."

The winner of the Sir Garfield Sober Trophy is elected by an academy of 56 members (increased from 50 in 2004), which includes the current captains of the Test-playing nations' national teams, members of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICC_Awards" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ICC</a>'s elite panel of umpires and referees, and a few well-known former players and cricket correspondents. Jasprit Bumrah has been at the peak of his ability, and he has achieved unbelievable success since he made his comeback from the injury. Especially, his performance across all three formats in 2024 has helped him bag a major ICC award.
On Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed Indian ace pacer to be the winner of the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year at the ICC Awards 2024. This has marked another successful chapter in Bumrah's glorious career. He has been the best all-format bowler to play cricket in modern cricket. He played a major role in India winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Bumrah finished 2024 with the most wickets across formats. He took 86 wickets in 21 matches across formats. With that, he also won the Player of the Tournament award in the T20 World Cup 2024, with 15 wickets at an incredible economy rate of 4.17. In Test cricket, Bumrah finished with 32 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at an average of 14.92 and a strike rate of 30.1.
The pacer also achieved the highest rating points in Test for an Indian, surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin's tally. Adding to that, he also won the ICC Test Player of the Year award and became only the third bowler to win these two ICC awards in the same year, after Mitchell Johnson and Ravichandran Ashwin.
<h2>List of Indians to win Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year</h2>
Travis Head, Joe Root, and Harry Brook were the other three nominated players for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy. But Bumrah's excellence in all three formats landed him this major ICC award. With this, he became only the fifth Indian player to win the ICC Men's Cricketer of the Year award.
Rahul Dravid was the first Indian to win this prestigious award, who won it in 2004. The second Indian to achieve this glory was Sachin Tendulkar in 2010. Ravichandran Ashwin was the first Indian bowler to win this award in 2016. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli bagged this award for two consecutive years in 2017 and 2018, respectively. Now, in 2024, Bumrah became the first Indian pacer to win the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year.
It won't be a wrong statement to say that Jasprit Bumrah is currently the most impactful performer across formats. Since his return from injury, he has won Player of the Series in South Africa and the Australia test series. He also became the first bowler to achieve no. 1 ranking in all three formats.
