The two worlds of sport and politics can often collide in controversial circumstances, something the ICC has moved to quell ahead of this year?s T20 World Cup in India.



Major sporting events have often been defined or affected by rising diplomatic tensions. Denmark won the European Championship in 1992 having taken the place of disqualified Yugoslavia, whilst America?<a href="https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/carter-announces-olympic-boycott">boycotted the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow</a>?for political reasons. With India and Pakistan currently experiencing a breakdown in political relationships with the former?s attempted annexation of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the ICC has sought written confirmation Pakistan players will be issued a visa for the tournament, scheduled for autumn.



The issue was allegedly brought up by the Pakistan Cricket Board at a recent meeting of the international cricket body, causing a letter to be sent to the Board of Control for Cricket in India seeking assurances. It is felt a problem with visas heading into the tournament could throw it into disarray, and after the recent problems with major sporting events, the ICC is demanding a smooth and successful tournament.



There was a T20 World Cup scheduled for autumn 2020, which was meant to take place in Australia. Sadly, as was the case around the world, they had to be cancelled courtesy of the pandemic. In fact, 2020 saw almost all elite sport take a hiatus, with several major tournaments lost around the world. Football was severely disrupted, as was golf and tennis.?According to Bwin, the biggest shock of all was the postponement of the summer Olympics, scheduled to take place in Tokyo. That very same Olympics will now take place in a packed 2021, as will a T20 World Cup.



However, Australia will now host the 2022 tournament, leaving India with the responsibility for putting on the expected event from last year. Whilst the cricket-loving country, home of the renowned IPL, is ready in terms of fanbase and infrastructure, those growing issues with Pakistan could derail the efforts of the ICC and indeed, the BCCI.



It would not be the first time the intense rivalry the two share on the cricket field has been disrupted by political issues. The two sides first met in 1952, when Pakistan toured India. Test and limited over series have taken part between the two since, but several major events have disrupted that. There were no matches between 1962 and 1977 due to major political unrest, whilst events in 1999 and 2008 also caused the sport to be affected.



During times of relative peace, the tension between the two countries means the games are incredibly popular, with plenty of fans wanting to go and watch. The 2019 Cricket World Cup meeting between the two countries drew 800,000 applicants for tickets, and other games are always in high demand too. That leads to a degree of ?cricket diplomacy?, in which the sport can be used to ease tensions, with residents and heads of state allowed across borders for big games.



The ICC will be hoping that the T20 World Cup sees such diplomacy, and perhaps those at the sharp end of the hostilities will be keen to see the same effect as they seek to set aside differences in 2021.

ICC Makes T20 World Cup Demands

New Zealand to travel with a 20 member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup in India.



New Zealand head coach Garry Stead in the recent conversation with stuff.co.nz said that the team will travel with 20 members for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup which will be hosted by India. The length of the squad has been increased due to the complications posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.



Before the pandemic, the teams were happy to go with 15 or 16 players for a tour however the scenarios are changed now after the world has suffered the harsh pandemic. Now the teams prefer going with a larger contingent.



?The way Covid is at the moment and the way the world is changing so quickly, I?d probably expect there could be up to 20 people in the squad,? Stead was quoted as saying by stuff.co.nz.



?The bigger squad has several advantages as it helps to create a balance throughout the tournament as you have players who are ready to go.?



Stead said that they might opt for players who haven?t played a single for New Zealand in the shortest format.



?I think it?s realistic to expect that there could be guys selected to go to the World Cup later in the year, who may not have played for New Zealand (in T20s).?



The ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place in India later this year in October-November.



<h2>Australia to tour New Zealand for five T20Is:</h2>



Right now, New Zealand will be playing against Australia in the five games T20I series, starting from Monday.



?Australia are a dangerous team and will be hard to beat. The players will be high in their form after the Big Bash League.?



?There might not be the players that we expected to see but still they are hard. Their lineup is big and they all carry class.?

ICC T20 World Cup Dates Announced, Schedule, Teams and Venues.



ICC T20 World Cup: The 2021 edition?s Men?s T20 World Cup is all set to be staged in the UAE, starting October 17, two days after the completion of the suspended Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.



Earlier, ANI had reported that the cash-rich Indian T20 League will resume on September 17 in the UAE and will have a month-long window to complete the remaining 31 games. The final is scheduled to be held on 15th October.



Season 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was halfway pulled back due to rising covid cases in the bubbles.



The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is reported to begin from October 17 while the final will be held on November 14 in the UAE.



The 16 teams affair ICC showpiece event was originally scheduled to be held in India, however, the deteriorating situations in the country forced the BCCI and ICC officials to shift the venues.



The global body has cleared that the hosting rights will be retained by the BCCI and India even if the tournament will be held in the UAE or the middle east.



As per the reports, the BCCI is yet to reply to the ICC on their stance of hosting the World Cup in India.&nbsp;



?Round one of the showpiece event will have 12 matches amongst eight teams. The top four teams in the round will advance to super 12,? reported ESPN Cricinfo.



?Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea will fight to enter the super 12 round. The top four teams will enter super 12s where they will join the top eight ranked T20I teams.?



As many as 30 games will be held in the Super 12 round starting October 24 across three venues of the UAE - Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai.



Following the Super 12s, three knockout games will be held - two semi-finals and one final to decide the winner of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.



The ICC in a statement said that the final call on the host country will be taken at the end of this month and the preparation will commence after the decision.



?A final decision on the host country will be taken later this month. The board also confirmed that the BCCI will remain the host of the event regardless of where the event is played,? said ICC in a release.

As stated earlier, a total of 16 teams will participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The top eight ranked teams in the ICC T20I teams ranking will head directly to the Super 12 round while the remaining eight teams will have to seal their places by competing against each other.

England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, South Africa, West Indies and Afghanistan.



Other eight participating teams:



Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Netherlands, Ireland, Namibia, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Scotland.



<h2>ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Venues:</h2>



Although the final confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to follow, the three possible venues are Sharjah, Dubai International Stadium and Abu Dhabi Stadium.?



A couple of sources also claimed Oman?s capital Muscat to host a few matches to give breathing space to the UAE after IPL 2021 phase 2.

New Zealand Squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2021: NZC announces its 16 men squad for the World Cup 2021.



The New Zealand Cricket Board (NZC) has unveiled its 16 men, strong squad, for the upcoming showpiece event of the ICC, two months prior to the start of the tournament. The ICC T20 World Cup 2021 is scheduled to be staged in the UAE and Oman, starting October 17.



Along with the T20 World Cup 2021, NZC has also announced its squads for the upcoming limited-overs tour of Pakistan and Bangladesh.



The New Zealand squad for the T20 World Cup 2021 will be led by skipper Kane Williamson and his T20I deputy Tim Southee.&nbsp;



Three frontline spinners in Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, and Todd Astle have been included in the squad while Mark Chapman and Glenn Phillips are kept as the backups.



The department of pacers will be spearheaded by Tim Southee and consists of Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson and Kyle Jamieson. Two genuine all-rounders have been picked in Jimmy Neesham and Daryl Mitchell by the New Zealand Cricket Board.

Lately, it?s been observed that cricketers and the team management have come forward in support of the movement and spread awareness. Initially, West Indies supported the movement followed by the England cricket team. In the match against Pakistan, team India was also seen taking a knee for BLM post which South Africa also issued directives for its players to take a consistent stand in all its T20 World Cup 2021 matches.



While several people at length and breadth of the internet have liked the gesture of teams extending their support for a cause, some have expressed their resentment over the stand as they believe that sport should be kept safe from the campaigns or religion.



Kieron Pollard in the post-match conference on Tuesday said that when people get educated they automatically understand the basic role behind any movement, though, he asserted that everyone has their own opinions and is free to exercise that.

?You guys know our thoughts on this matter. It?s something that we feel strongly about as a team and as a people, as well, and we will continue to do it. Each and everyone has their own opinions on it, but as I?ve always said, once you?re educated and you understand, we will understand you doing it,? said Kieron Pollard.



?But I think education sort of is the key, and we don?t want anyone doing it for us in solitude or to feel sorry for us. However, I can only really comment more on Quinton de Kock once we?ve got a clearer picture,? Pollard said in the post-match interview.



Temba Bavuma, South Africa skipper, supported de Kock?s decision and said that the South African stumper batter is an adult and exactly know what to do and what not to.&nbsp;



?Quinton is an adult. He?s a man in his own shoes. We respect his decision. We respect his convictions,? said Temba Bavuma at a media interaction.



A strong rage has also begun among the people with one side occupied by those who strongly support the initiative while the other facet is taken by those who believe that cricket, being a sport, should not exercise any movement. Some even expressed that the sport should be free from any boundaries which include caste, religion and even any such campaign and movements.
