ICC announced venues for World Test Championship Final 2023 and 2025: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently locked the iconic Lord?s Cricket Ground as the venue to host the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023 and 2025. The decision was taken in the recently organised ICC?s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Birmingham, England.



The summit clash of the ICC?s inaugural World Test Championship 2021 was held at Ageas Bowl, Southampton between India and New Zealand. The fixture was earlier scheduled to be held at Lord?s London, however, due to numerous covid-19 complications, the final was shifted to Southampton.



New Zealand are the reigning champions of the classic tournament, defeating India in the summit clash. The Championship is run for over two years and is participated by nine test-playing nations.



Each side plays three home and three away test series in the build-up to the World Test Championship. The teams are ranked according to their win percentage and the top two sides eventually meet in the final.



Notably, earlier ICC chairman Greg Barclay had indicated the high chances of Lord?s hosting both the WTC Finals. In the chat with BBC?s Test Match Special, Barclay said that due to the county championship in England, a number of venues automatically get out of ICC?s radar.



?It?s June so that rules out a number of other venues and we?ve got to get certainty around where it?s hosted. We?re out of Covid now so subject to arrangements being made and being able to be hosted out of Lord?s, I think that?s the intention,? Barclay had said

Currently, South Africa tops the WTC Points Table chart with an overall winning percentage of 71.43. The Proteas have won five tests and lost just two in three series played so far. Australia stands tall in the second spot with 70 per cent winning followed by Sri Lanka with a 53.33 winning percentage.



The Indian team is placed fourth in the table with a win percentage of 52.08 after four test series. India has won six test matches apart from losing four and ending two in a draw. Moreover, India has been found guilty of slow over rate owing to which five points have been docked from India?s total tally.



To play the final of the ICC WTC 2023, India needs to win all of its remaining Test matches, which is quite a task.

ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final to be held on June 7, likely to clash with IPL 2023: The ongoing edition of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) is likely to have its final clash scheduled in the first week of June. Although the dates haven?t been officially announced by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the reports from close sources confirm that the final is expected to run from June 7 to 11 in the Oval.



Notably, the date June 7 to 11 is close to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 Final, which is also expected to be held in the first week of June or late May. The BCCI is currently in the process of finalising the schedule of the IPL 2023, but the WTC final and IPL 2023 final may be pretty close.



A report in Cricbuzz stated that the BCCI is either mulling over scheduling IPL 2023 final either on May 28 or June 4.



Team India?s qualification chances for the World Test Championship 2023 Final are still on. Assuming that India reaches the final then the selectors, management and the board will have to do a lot of shuffling and balancing with the dates, more so if IPL schedule spills over to June.



As of now, India stands in the fourth position in the WTC points table. They need to win all of their remaining test matches in order to reach the top two without any discomfort. Out of the remaining six test matches, two will be held against Bangladesh while four matches are scheduled against Australia in Feb-March.

<h2>Tata IPL 2023 Probable Start Date:</h2>



Further, the report published on Cricbuzz indicated two tentative dates for the start of the Tata IPL 2023. The Indian cricket board is looking to kickstart the sixteenth edition of the Indian T20 tournament either on March 31 or April 1.



The IPL teams are currently preparing for the IPL 2023 Auction which is scheduled to be held on December 23 in Kochin. All the franchises have completed their player retentions and will head to the auction with an aim to bolster their core for the next IPL edition.

The race to reach the final of the test championship has become trickier for all the teams as we are nearing the end of the cycle. As of now, India stands in 4th position in the WTC points table with a 52.08% win record. The first two places in the same ranking have been secured by Australia (75%) and South Africa (60%). While Sri Lanka has held third place with an aggregate winning percentage of 53.33.



If India manages to win all six of its remaining matches, its winning percentage would surge up to 68.06 which will put India in a commanding position. In addition to that, India would also hope South Africa loses at least two or three of their test matches in the current WTC cycle.



South Africa is scheduled to play three-match test series against Australia in Australia, starting December 17. Their remaining two test matches will be against West Indies in February 2023.

World Test Championship (WTC) Points Table: South Africa further slips down to the fourth position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Points Table after suffering an unassailable 2-0 defeat against Australia. The mighty Aussies continued their one-sided domination at home as they hammered the Proteas by an innings and 182 runs in the second test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). 



The Proteas boasted of having a daunting pace attack, but that count for nothing if their batters can't put up a show and give the bowlers a fair chance to be a part of the contest. In the first innings, the South African batters were wrapped in mere 189 runs total all thanks to the handy half-century knocks from Kyle Verreyenne and Marco Jansen.



In response to an underwhelming total, Australian batters wreaked havoc and piled up 575 runs before declaring the innings. Opener David Warner redeemed himself in his 100th test with a classy double ton while Alex Carey slammed his maiden century in red-ball cricket.



In the second innings, South Africa did nothing better as they were once again packed by the Aussies at a score of 204. Temba Bavuma was the only batter who crossed 50 runs mark in the innings and helped South Africa breach 200 run mark.



Australia now have a safe lead of 2-0 in the three-match test series. South Africa will look to bounce back in the final test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) and perform some salvage work in order to avoid embarrassment. Meanwhile, the hosts will back themselves for a complete whitewash in the third test.

India's chances of winning ICC WTC Final 2023 against Australia - Sachin Tendulkar respond: Rohit Sharma-led team India, recently, secured their berth in the ICC WTC Final after defeating Australia in the four-match test series. India thumped Australia by 2-1 in the Border Gavaskar Trophy and were aided by New Zealand, who defeated Sri Lanka in the first test, to get an entry to the ICC WTC 2021-23 Final.



While India made it through to the finals of the ICC World Test Championship with the help of New Zealand, Australia got through it in the third game of the IND vs AUS tests, after defeating India in Indore by nine wickets. 



Now, India and Australia will have a rematch at the Kennington Oval in London starting June 7 to get crowned as the ICC World Test Champions.



The speculations have already begun as to what will be the probable playing combination for India and Australia in the marquee clash against Australia. On similar lines, legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar was asked about his choice of players and India's chances of winning the ICC WTC Final 2023 against the likes of Australia. The former cricketer in reply to the query largely remained optimistic but fired a warning to the Indian captain Rohit Sharma of the possible dangers.



Tendulkar emphasised on picking up a balanced squad for the test against Australia in London, not just considering the overhead conditions but also having a thorough view of the weather for all five days of the game.



?In Test cricket, you will have to understand conditions for the next five days and pick the squad accordingly,? he said in?India Today Conclave. ?We have played well and we have a good team, a balanced team.?



Noting that the playing conditions on offer at Oval will be different and fitting two spinners in a single playing11 will be a challenge, Sachin Tendulkar sent a stern warning to the Indian management.



?It would be slightly challenging for a captain to have extra spinners in the team to get the balance right. I am only thinking from India?s point of view, let Australians do what they want to do. We stand a very good chance,? he said.



Interestingly, this is India's second shot at the ICC WTC Final trophy. In the earlier chance, India missed out on getting crowned as the World Test Champions (WTC) against New Zealand in 2021 in Southampton.

ICC WTC Final: Virat, Pujara undergoes training in London for WTC Final: With just a couple of weeks left for the ICC WTC Final between India and Australia, the Indian players have started arriving in London to kickstart their final preparations for the event. In the pictures shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), team India's test mainstay Virat Kohli can be seen uniting with the Indian contingent in London.



The ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final between India and Australia is slated to begin on June 7 at the Oval in London. The two sides will play out the summit clash to get crowned as the World Test Champions. 



Notably, the first batch of Indian players along with the coaching staff landed in London a few days ago after the IPL 2023 league stage. The players who were not bound to participate in the IPL 2023 playoffs took a flight to the UK to begin their preparations for the marquee event.



Meanwhile, the remaining players will join the Indian squad after completing their IPL duties. The likes of Shubman Gill, Mohammad Shami, Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane are still involved in their IPL duties and will join their teammates in due time.

Prithvi Shaw did not find any takers as the Mumbai batter went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. Prithvi, who had a base price of Rs 75 lakh in the auction, was released by Delhi Capitals but he did not attract any bids from the ten franchises.
Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has said that Prithvi Shaw is misunderstood in many ways but needed a 'jolt' in the form of the IPL 2025 Auction snub. Shaw has been part of the Delhi franchise since returning as the U-19 World Cup winning captain in 2018 and was bought for 1.2 Crores. Ahead of the 2022 auction, the Mumbai batter was retained by DC for Rs. 7.5 Crore but the past few seasons hasn't been great for the 25-year-old.

MI Emirates got off to a strong start when they were asked to bat first, with openers Muhammad Waseem (38) and Kusal Perera making a strong stand at the top. The Sri Lankan Perera was the first to leave for 23 soon before the powerplay ended, following a 42-run partnership between the two players. Tom Banton entered, and he and Waseem made sure the MI Emirates maintained the run rate.
Banton was out for nine around the halfway point of the innings, while Waseem was out for 38 shortly after. Kieron Pollard replaced skipper Nicholas Pooran, but the seasoned right-hander struggled to get going and was eventually sent out for five by Ali Khan. Following Dan Mousley's dismissal for six, Romario Shepherd joined his skipper for the innings' last stretch. Jason Holder made a solid 49, but Pooran, who was hitting it cleanly, was almost at his half-century before he fell.
