IND vs AUS 2nd Test: Australia likely to drop David Warner, Matthew Kuhnemann added to the Test squad: Soon after Australia's embarrassment in the first test match in Nagpur, Australia has made two big changes to the squad for their upcoming test games against India. In one of the changes, the Aussies have called up Matthew Kuhnemann as a replacement for Mitchell Swepson while the other likely change could be a drop of David Warner from the playing11 of the IND vs AUS 2nd Test.



Reportedly, David Warner's poor form in the two innings of the opening test in Nagpur has disappointed the Australian dressing room. The conversations following the humiliating test loss against India, a day ago, were in line to replace David Warner with in-form batter Travis Head, who missed out on the opportunity in the Nagpur Test.



"Sources close to the Australian team confirmed those discussions were continuing after Warner's double failure in the first Test," reported 'Sydney Morning Herald'.



Warner could only score 1 and 10 runs in the two innings of the Nagpur test, which Australia lost by innings and 132 runs inside three days of play. The Aussies' misery in the spinning tracks continued as they were bundled out by the Indians in just a single session on day three of the test.



Notably, none of the Australian batters could score a fifty in either of the innings in the 1st test match. Contrary to this, team India registered a century and two half-centuries in the first innings. While skipper Rohit Sharma made a sensational ton, the all-rounder duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel played half-century knocks apiece.

In another change, Australia has summoned Matthew Kuhnemann to India as a replacement for Mitchell Swepson, who left the test squad for the birth of his first child. Kuhnemann is reported to make his test debut in the IND vs AUS 2nd test match which will be held in Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium, starting February 17.



"I got a phone call yesterday morning when we were walking out for the warm-up, to my surprise. I was pretty shocked and I was probably a little bit nowhere in the first session yesterday. But it was a pretty amazing feeling and it's pretty cool to tell the boys as well at the warm-ups," Kuhnemann was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.



"I?ve watched every day (of the first Test), I've just been such a fan of these series, they're so good to watch. Todd Murphy was exceptional, and I watched how Jadeja bowled. I'm just really excited to be to get over there and be with the boys."

ICC WTC Points Table: Team India once again showed to the world that playing in the sub-continent, especially against the Indians, isn't a piece of cake for everyone as the hosts win the second IND vs AUS test by 6 wickets in the third day itself. With the win, India upped its chances of qualifying for the ICC WTC 2021-23 Final. 



India concluded the 2nd IND vs AUS test in nearly one session after bundling out Australia in their second innings on day three. The Aussies played a counter-attacking game last afternoon (day two) and stayed overnight with a score of 61 runs in the loss of 1 wicket. On day three, R Ashwin began his assault with a wicket in the first over of the day itself. The senior off-spinner removed dangerous-looking Travis Head.



Ashwin then trapped Steve Smith leg before wicket in one of his following overs which led to the debacle of the Aussies. While Ashwin was tightening things from one end, Ravindra Jadeja opened his account for the day with the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne and embarked on the two-way destruction. 



Following the three initial wickets in the day, Australia lost its plot as R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja went on to pick another three wickets in three consecutive deliveries to make the situation even worse and humiliating for the Aussies. In no time, the spin duo Ashwin and Jadeja wrapped up Australia's second innings at a score of 113 runs. 



In the meantime, Ravindra Jadeja completed his 12th five-wicket haul in test cricket and even registered his best-ever figures in his test career (21.1 Over - 42 Runs - 7 Wickets). While R Ashwin got three in his bag.



Team India had a meagre total to fetch in the second innings, 115 runs and the task was done by the hosts in 26.4 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma once again looked in sublime touch as he scored brisk 31 runs from 20 balls before getting his hands dirty with an ugly mixup with Cheteshwar Pujara, in which the former had to sacrifice his wicket. 



Cheteshwar Pujara, who was playing his 100th test match, remained unbeaten at 31 runs along with Srikar Bharat (23*). Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer scored 20 and 12 runs respectively.

Sri Lanka stands firmly in third position with a 53.33 win percentage followed by South Africa with a 48.72 win percentage. With India inching closer to the ICC WTC 2021-23 final spot, the chances of Sri Lanka and South Africa playing the coveted game seem to plunge.

On the other side, Australia desperately needs a draw or a victory in one of the remaining two matches of the IND vs AUS test to exclude its competition against Sri Lanka. To be true, there were a couple of loopholes in the team combination of the first test. Virat Kohli got his 30th test century at Perth in the 1st test and his getting some runs in the first match of the series is a good sign for the Indian contingent. His presence with form in the middle-order is enough to fearmonger for the match. 
KL Rahul did an excellent job at the top in the first test and runs from his bat would give some relief to the team. It is a bit injustice for him to move down the order after those innings in the first test, but these are forced changes. 
Rishabh Pant is a killer against Australia and he proved the fact in the first innings of the Perth test where almost all batters faced difficulties to be at the crease.

Head also won the Player of the Match and helped his team level the series 1-1. Mitchell Starc took 8, and captain Pat Cummins took seven wickets in the game. These two teams will now face each other in the third test at The Gabba in Brisbane, starting on December 14.

The current Indian selection committee head,<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajit_Agarkar"> Ajit Agarkar</a>, picked the fastest 200 wickets for India as the veteran pacer achieved the feat in just 133 games and ended his career with 288 wickets in the format. 
 
So far, only 7 Indian bowlers have crossed the 200-wicket mark; Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath have picked over 300+ ODI wickets, while Zaheer Khan, Agarkar, Harbhajan Singh, Kapil Dev, and Ravindra Jadeja have also picked over 200 wickets for the Men in Blue.

In what promises to be an exciting and thrilling contest, Steve Smith-led Australia and Dhananjaya de Silva's Sri Lanka are set to lock horns versus each other in the second and the last match of the two-match Test-Series at the Galle International Stadium of Galle from the 6th of February onwards (Wednesday). 
In the opening encounter of the series, the Mighty Aussies secured a comfortable victory by an inning and 242 runs and this win helped them to take an unassailable lead of 1-0 in the two-match series. In such a situation, the Dhananjaya de Silva-led Sri Lanka would be looking to make a strong comeback by rectifying their mistakes in the second match. 
Ahead of this exciting contest, some thrilling player battles will be seen taking place between the star players of both teams which can go on to affect the outcome of the match. We will be taking a look at those player battles in this article

Australia's experienced opening batter Usman Khawaja is in great form with the bat and he also possesses' an excellent batting record on Subcontinental surfaces. While the Australian team management would be happy to see him performing, they might be a little worried in the 2nd match as experienced left-arm spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya can trouble him a lot.

He also got the better of the Southpaw in the opening encounter, dismissing him when he was batting on the score of 232 runs and Jayasuriya would be looking to get the better of Khawaja again in the final match of the series.

Apart from the two above-mentioned player battles, the battle between elite Aussie off-spinner Nathan Lyon and promising Sri Lankan batter Kamindu Mendis will also be worth watching out for. 
Angelo Mathews will have to rely on his batting technique to tackle the speed and swing of Mitchell Starc and at the same time, Asitha Fernando has the ability to trouble the Australian duo of Josh Inglis and Marnus Labuschagne with his pace and bounce.
