Hardik, Shikhar in line to become Indian?s skipper for T20I series against SA: All-rounder Hardik Pandya and opener batter Shikhar Dhawan are in selector's target to hand team India's captaincy role for the home T20I series against South Africa and away series against Ireland as the senior players will be given much-needed break from competitive cricket.



The home series against South Africa for five T20Is will begin on June 9 while India's tour of Ireland for 2 T20Is will kickstart on June 26. The squad for both tours is expected to be rolled out on May 22nd.



Notably, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant will be given rest for the two subsequent series as a part of their workload management. The aforementioned players are constantly playing cricket for the last couple of months and BCCI wants all of them fresh for the tour of England, starting July 1.



"All the senior India players will get at least three and half weeks of complete rest. Rohit, Virat, KL, Rishabh and Jasprit will all directly go to England for the 'fifth Test' following the white-ball series. We need all our key players to remain fresh for the England series," a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on the condition of anonymity.



It has been learnt that Shikhar Dhawan, who has led team India in absence of Rohit, Virat and Rahul in the past, along with Hardik Pandya, who has been impressive in his maiden stint as the captain of the IPL franchise - Gujarat Titans, are in line to lead the men in blue for the two upcoming shortest format tours.



"The selectors have a couple of choices. Shikhar Dhawan, as he has already captained India in absence of Virat, Rohit and Rahul during last year's Sri Lanka series. But Hardik Pandya's impressive captaincy for Gujarat Titans hasn't gone unnoticed. So it will be a close call," said the source when asked about the choice of leadership.

<h2>Umran Malik is too raw to be handed India debut:</h2>



It is further understood that pace sensation Umran Malik is too raw to be given a maiden call for the national team. Though his 150 plus bolts have generated a fair bit of excitement amongst everyone, however, a couple of India A tours would help him discover himself and get better with his strengths.



Lucknow Super Giant?s left-arm pacer Moshin Khan has reportedly excited the selectors with his brilliant pace, bounce and swing and is in the mix to get a maiden call-up in the T20I squad.



"Mohsin has impressed almost everyone with his pace, bounce and swing in this edition. He does have a chance. Having said that, not ruling out Umran or Arshdeep either, but Mohsin might just be slightly ahead," he added.



It is important to note that Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar won?t be named in the squad due to their respective injury concerns. All the three cricketers are ruled out of the Tata IPL 2022 and are undergoing their rehab program.?

NCA chief VVS Laxman likely to coach India during Ireland tour for the T20I series: In all its likelihood, National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman will coach team India for the two T20Is against Ireland next month as the shortest format tour coincides with India's test preparations against England.



While the senior Indian contingent will be gearing up to face England in the fifth rescheduled test match at Edgbaston, a second-string Indian side will take on Ireland in a two matches T20I series, starting June 26.



The one-off test match between England and India is slated to begin on July 1, but before that the touring party will take part in a four-day practice test against Leicester from June 24-27.



Understandably, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid will be with the senior men, guiding them in the one-off Test against England.&nbsp;



"In all likelihood, Laxman will be with the T20 squad in Ireland as Dravid will be busy in England with the Test team,? a BCCI source told PTI.



Notably, team India dealt with a similar situation earlier during Ravi Shastri?s stint as India?s head coach and the responsibility of the NCA was on Rahul Dravid?s shoulders.

Last year, the men in blue were slated to tour Sri Lanka while the senior men were in the UK for the five matches test series. Dravid, the then NCA chief, travelled with the second string Indian squad to the island nation for a limited-overs series while Ravi Shastri kept providing his services to the senior players in England.



The reports have suggested that two different teams would be picked for the tour of Ireland and England. India will play two T20Is against Ireland, while 1 test followed by three T20Is and as many ODIs will be played against England.



The full-strength Indian squad is expected to travel to England, while fresh faces will receive their maiden call-up for the tour of Ireland.



The Indian selectors are foreseen to roll out India?s T20I squad on May 22, the final day of IPL 2022?s league stage contest. Senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Mohammad Shami are probable to get a breather.

Notably, team India will field two squads in July during the tour of Ireland which collides with the England tour. While the T20I squad will lock horns against Ireland, the red ball squad will be playing a practice test match against Leicestershire ahead of the one-off rescheduled test match against England.

While then head coach Ravi Shastri accompanied the red-ball squad in England, then NCA chief Rahul Dravid travelled with the second string Indian side to Sri Lanka for the white ball matches.



A few days ago, the BCCI named India's T20I squad for the shortest format series against South Africa. A few probable names were missing from the list besides the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami, who all have been given a breather to freshen up for the challenge against England.&nbsp;



Shikhar Dhawan, Rahul Tripathi and T Natarajan were expected to make their cut in the squad against SA, however, they missed the list. These three names will be present for the tour of Ireland and Shikhar Dhawan may be seen donning the skipper?s hat as well.

In the recently held IPL season, he scored 413 runs in 14 matches at an average of 37.54, striking at 158.23.



"It is a very big opportunity, a dream come true [moment] and [I] appreciate [it]," Tripathi told PTI. "I am very happy that the selectors and everybody believed in me and whatever hard-work I have put in, I have got the rewards. IND vs IRE: Jasprit Bumrah to make comeback in Ireland series: Reports: In a major boost to team India, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set for his competitive comeback in August during the IND vs IRE T20I series. Bumrah, who has been away from the field for a very long time, could possibly be seen in India's blue colour during the Ireland tour.



Team India is scheduled to tour Ireland for a three-match T20I series in mid-August (18, 20 and 23) after the conclusion of India's comprehensive tour of the West Indies and the USA.



Notably, the BCCI is yet to reveal India's T20I squad for the West Indies series, although, it has already announced the Test and ODI squads of the same tour. 



The reasons for the delay in the announcement of the T20I squad could be linked to uncertainty in Jasprit Bumrah's fitness. It could be a possibility that the BCCI would be waiting to get the final reply from the NCA on the availability of the ace Indian pacer.



However, if the reports are to be believed, Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to feature in the five-match T20I series against West Indies but he could make his comeback in the subsequent Ireland series.



In a larger picture, the BCCI would want Bumrah to provide his services during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in October-November and for that, his workload will be maintained accordingly through the course of the event. Starting with the T20I games, Bumrah will be elevated to the ODIs for the longer spells.



Bumrah, meanwhile, suffered a back injury in 2022 due to which he had to miss the T20 World Cup, IPL 2023 and the recently held ICC WTC Final against Australia. He underwent back surgery in New Zealand earlier this year and since then he is undergoing rehabilitation.

IND vs IRE: India T20I Squad for tour of Ireland 2023: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be providing much-needed rest to a couple of Indian Star Players during the upcoming India tour of Ireland 2023. As per the reports, team India's T20I skipper Hardik Pandya along with other players could get a breather for the Ireland T20I series in the wake of a packed calendar ahead.



The India tour of Ireland 2023, comprises a three-game IND vs IRE T20I series, to be played at the Malahide Cricket Club Ground, Starting August 18. The second game of the IND vs IRE T20I leg is scheduled to be held on August 20, meanwhile, the last tour game is on August 23.



In the wake of the marquee events lined ahead, the BCCI is likely to rest a few Indian players from the IND vs IRE series. T20I skipper Hardik Pandya's workload would be crucial as he is an indispensable part of India's white-ball squad.



Along with Hardik Pandya, the Indian cricket board could also rest opener Shubman Gill, who has now become a three-format player for India. 



Sources close to the BCCI said the call on Hardik Pandya's participation in the IND vs IRE T20I series will be taken after consulting him following the India vs West Indies white ball series. 



"Nothing is finalised yet and it will also depend on how Hardik is feeling after the one-dayers and T20s in the West Indies. There is travelling involved and only a short turnaround of three days before one flies from Florida to Dublin," said a close source.



Notably, the Indian players will get just three days time after the completion of the India tour of West Indies 2023 to reach Dublin for the IND vs IRE T20I series. India's last tour game in West Indies is on August 13 and the team's opening game in the tour of Ireland is on August 18.



"With World Cup being of primary importance, one has to factor in his workload. Let's not forget he will be Rohit's deputy in the World Cup," a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.



Team India's T20I Squad for Ireland will also miss the services of stalwarts like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. As it seems, the BCCI has made up its mind to do away with these star players following their failures in producing fruitful results in the recent past.

Bumrah has led an Indian team before, most recently in the lone Test game played in England last summer. Bumrah has been out since September 2022 due to a back injury, when he last played for the national team. The 29-year-old's physical condition will be essential as India prepares for the ODI World Cup, which will get underway in October.



The right-arm pacer suffered a similar problem during the India tour of England in July 2022, which cost him two months of playing time. Bumrah missed the T20 World Cup in Australia due to back problems, and since then, he hasn't participated in a competitive cricket match, including the World Test Championship Final last month and the IPL 2023.



India tour of Ireland 2023 consists of 3 T20Is and India's regular T20I skipper Hardik Pandya has been rested from the captaincy for nearing Asia Cup and World Cup.
