The India tour of South Africa for all format series has come under serious concern following the detection of a new variant, Omicron, of coronavirus. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is constantly keeping its conversation on with the South African Cricket Board relating the tour and its schedule to defer it by a week.



The sources close to BCCI say that the Indian board has asked its South African counterpart to delay the tour by a week owing to the fear of a new coronavirus variant in several countries including South Africa.



?We might request CSA to postpone the series by a week and will then declare the schedule,? top BCCI sources said on Thursday afternoon.



India and South Africa are scheduled to play three test matches, three ODIs and four T20Is in the tour which spans over a month. The tour starts on December 17 with a test series in Johannesburg.



As of now, the BCCI hasn?t completely pulled the plug for the tour, however, the reports suggest that the cricket board is soon going to have clarity over the tour. Team India was scheduled to board a charter flight on December 9, but the decision has been put on hold following the ranging danger of covid.

The selection of India?s squad for the South Africa tour is also put on hold. The Indian selectors were earlier scheduled to meet after the completion of the first test, however, the lack of clarity over BCCI?s decision has deferred it as well.



<h2>BCCI's request to reduce three matches test series:</h2>



The top BCCI official also said that the BCCI is likely to initiate talks with Cricket South Africa (CSA) to reduce the test matches to two while the white ball fixtures remain the same.&nbsp;



Furthermore, if CSA agrees to BCCI?s terms to reduce the test series by a test match, the Indian cricket board will possibly chalk down an agreement to play at least five T20I matches next year with South Africa.

India tour of South Africa: Current India?s T20I full-time skipper Rohit Sharma is all set to undergo another elevation in his stature in Indian cricket as he is likely to be appointed Virat Kohli?s deputy in the test format as well. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for the all-format series against South Africa in the rainbow nation. The tour will have three test matches that are likely to be reduced to two following the emergence of the Omicron variant of coronavirus. It is learnt that the BCCI is committed to visiting South Africa despite the covid scare in the country. The tour which was slated to commence on 17th December, with the first test match, is likely to be pushed back by a week to monitor the situation.



The current Indian test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is enduring a rough patch in his test cricket career. The selectors and BCCI officials have started the conversation to remove incumbent Rahane from the position and give the reins to Rohit Sharma.



The shortest format skipper, Rohit Sharma?s say in Indian cricket has its value and it has increased exponentially over the years. If the reports are believed, Rohit had a huge role in India?s T20 World Cup 2021 squad. He was a key member while picking India?s squad for the Test series against New Zealand.



"The selection meeting will happen in a few days. It is likely that Rohit will be made the vice-captain of the Test team. The Indian team is committed to travelling to South Africa. However, the tour will not go on as per schedule. BCCI has communicated to Cricket South Africa (CSA) that it could start the tour with the Boxing Day Test," a top BCCI official said.

The officials also revealed that all the travel plans, logistics and schedules for the South Africa tour are being freshly prepared. The Indian team is unlikely to board the flight on 8th December.?



"The tour will be curtailed. The travel plans are being worked out. It's unlikely the team will leave on December 8. As of now, it looks like the two boards will have to compromise and agree to play two Tests instead of the initially planned three. Maybe a T20I could also be reduced," the official added.

Revised Schedule of India tour of South Africa: Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Monday confirmed the revised itinerary for the upcoming India tour of South Africa for test and ODI matches. The India tour of Rainbow nation will commence on December 26th with the opening test at Centurian.



Following the emergence of the new variant of coronavirus ?Omicron? in South Africa, the tour became a concern. BCCI and CSA on its recent meeting decided to curtail the tour and postpone it by a week?s time. The four matches T20I series will no longer be played in the tour and will be scheduled on a later date.



The tour will go with three matches Test series followed by as many games ODI series, starting December 26.



"It is a pleasure for CSA to confirm the updated schedule for the India men's tour to South Africa," the CSA said in a statement.



"As announced over the weekend, the tour has been reduced from three series to two; the Betway Test and One-Day International series, taking place from 26 December to 23 January 2022 across four venues, following successful engagement with the BCCI.



"The four-match KFC T20I series will be rescheduled for a more opportune time in the new year."

Venkatesh Iyer says he has accepted the role of a finisher in team India.



Venkatesh Iyer?s career has been nothing short of a fairytale. From going unnoticed for several years to getting an India cap in a very short time, it's been a fruitful journey for the Indian all-rounder. SA vs IND ODI: Indian young off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar has tested positive for the coronavirus and is subsequently ruled out of the One Day International (ODI) series against South Africa.



Sundar was named in India?s 18-men strong ODI squad that was set to travel to the Rainbow nation for the three matches ODI series following the ongoing test series, however, his participation in the 50-overs format has been dented following the covid positive report.



Cricbuzz, on Tuesday, quoted a BCCI official as saying, ?He tested positive some days back and it has been decided that he will not travel with the squad."



Seasoned off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal are there in India?s contingent travelling to South Africa.&nbsp;



The recent reports also suggested that the BCCI has asked Jayant Yadav to stay back in South Africa after the conclusion of the test series. He will come in India?s ODI squad filling up the place of Washington Sundar.

India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has dropped a bombshell statement about his battle with Australia batter Sam Konstas. He said that the batter was interesting, and he was enjoying the battle and is looking forward to the next innings of the match. 
Jasprit Bumrah, who has been the best bowler for India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, was made look clueless by the 19-year-old Sam Konstas. The Australia debutant tackled the 'Bumrah' challenge brilliantly as, according to him, the attack was the best option to counter his challenge.
Sam Konstas brought his T20 style in the Tests as he hit Jasprit Bumrah for sixes and boundaries all over the park. It wasn't conventional shots but the batter was at his unorthodox best as he played reverse scoops and hit the fast bowler for runs all over the park. 
Jasprit Bumrah was hit for two sixes by Sam Konstas and it marked the first instance since 2018 when the fast bowler was hit for two sixes in the match. The pacer was taken out of attack in the first spell till the time the batter was back in the hut.

"I have experienced a lot - played T20I cricket for more than 12 years - He is an interesting batter - I always felt, I was in the game, some days, it pays off, it looks good - some days, it won't and you guys will be criticizing the same person - I love different challenges and looking forward to new challenges". 
Sam Konstas raced away to his half-century in the game and ended with an inning of 60 runs. He set a great platform for the Australia team which allowed them to post a massive first innings total of 474 runs on the board. 
Jasprit Bumrah, on the other picked a four-wicket haul and gave away 99 runs. This was the first time in his career that he was taken for this many runs. He would be looking for a strong response in the second innings.

If India win the BGT series 2-1, then they will hope that Sri Lanka can draw one of two tests against Australia or Pakistan beat South Africa in one game.
Secondly, if the BGT series ends at 2-2, then for India's qualification, Sri Lanka and Pakistan have to beat Australia and South Africa in both games. If the BGT series ends at a scoreline of 1-1, then the scenario will be Sri Lanka beating Australia in one game or Pakistan winning both matches against South Africa to help India qualify. Even in the first inning of the Melbourne Boxing-Day Test, the former Mumbai Indians captain got dismissed after scoring just three runs.

37-year-old Rohit Sharma has taken part in 66 Test-matches so far in his career. In 114 innings of these contests, he has managed to score 4,289 runs at average of 41.24 with the help of 12 hundreds and 18 fifties with a highest score of 212 runs next to his name. It's worth noting that Sharma made his Test debut in 2013 versus the Windies.

But it was the 21-year-old Nitish Kumar Reddy, who has made headlines with a Boxing Day century at the MCG. After a number of 30s and 40s earlier in the series, the 21-year-old finally reached his maiden test fifty. But he didn't stop there and stitched a crucial partnership with Washington Sundar, who also played well.
The duo took India past the follow-on score and kept India in the game. Sundar got out after his fifty, and Jasprit Bumrah backed a duck. But it was all determination by Reddy, who succeeded in getting his maiden test century, and what a time and place to get to the triple figure. With his century, he achieved multiple records.

With his century now, he is the first Indian batter to slam a century batting at No. 8. This is not all. The 21-year-old has hit 8 sixes in the series so far. With this, he has hit the joint-most sixes in a test series on Australian soil.
Michael Vaughan (2002-03 Ashes) and Chris Gayle (2009-10) have hit 8 sixes each in a test series in Australia. Nitish Kumar Reddy still have some innings left, and if he can hit one more six, he will make history. Adding to that, Reddy had an exciting celebration. After reaching fifty, he celebrated in the famous "Pushpa" movie style.
