The tour of the West Indies and the USA will have two red-ball games along with three ODIs and five Twenty-20 Internationals. Out of five T20Is, two will be played in the United States of America (USA) at the Central Broward Park &amp; Broward County Stadium in Lauderhill, Florida.



Notably, when India visited the USA last year for a couple of T20I games against the West Indies, they had to face visa issues, which created a huge mess. However, the timely intervention of Guyana's President solved the visa issue.



India's all-format tour of the West Indies will begin with the test series followed by the ODIs and then the five T20Is to complete the visit. The two red-ball matches will be staged at Windsor Park and the Queen?s Park Oval while the limited-over matches will be held in Barbados, Trinidad, and Guyana. 



India and West Indies will then fly to the USA for the final two T20Is of the five-match series which will be held in Florida.

IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma to be rested for a part of India tour of West Indies 2023: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to provide a breather to Indian captain Rohit Sharma at some point during the upcoming India tour of West Indies 2023. The three-format tour, IND vs WI will have two tests, three ODIs and five T20Is, which will begin on July 12.



As per the reports, the selectors are looking to give a break to the all-format Indian skipper, who has looked off-colours in the recent past. His performances in the recently held Tata IPL 2023 and the World Test Championship have been disappointing.



"The selectors want him [Rohit Sharma] to rest for some part of the West Indies tour, said a close source in the know of the development to the Times of India.



Reportedly, either Rohit will miss the two-match Test series or the eight-game limited-over matches, which include three ODIs and five T20Is.



"He's likely to miss the Tests or the eight-match white-ball match series (three ODIs and five Twenty20 Internationals) against West Indies. The selectors will speak with Rohit Sharma and then take a decision," the source added.



Earlier, it was reported that BCCI is keen on resting senior players for the five-match T20I series against West Indies. With the next T20 World Cup to be held next year, the move made sense as the players would remain fresh for the ODIs and for the following ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.



However, the move to rest Rohit Sharma for the entire white-ball series or the red-ball series is a bouncer for cricket fans. Notably, team India has a month's time to enjoy and get fresh before they embark on their West Indies tour.



Rohit Sharma's World Test Championship Final (WTC) 2023 outing turned out underwhelming. He scored 15 runs in the first innings and 43 in the second. The Indian skipper got a good start in the second innings, however, his over-ambitious lap shot trapped him in front of the three stumps.



Some reports also claimed that along with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli could also get a break to rejuvenate during the upcoming India tour of West Indies.

The talks of Hardik Pandya's test comeback are not new. After recovering from his injury, a year ago, which kept him in distress for a long time, Hardik has only played the white-ball format. He is actively involved in the T20I and ODI games, however, his test appearances have become extinct. 



With India stepping into a new three-year cycle of the World Test Championship with a two-match series against West Indies, the BCCI will certainly have thoughts of having Hardik back as an all-rounder in the side. 



However, the cricketer has himself ruled him out from wearing a white jersey for India as of now. Hardik, in an interview earlier, said he will earn his spot if he were to step into the test side.



?If I want to play Test cricket, I will go through the grind, I will earn my position and then come back. For that reason, to be very honest, I will not be available or play the World Test Championship Final, or any future Test matches until I feel that I have earned my spot," said Hardik Pandya.



Meanwhile, a senior BCCI official said that the selectors are keen to recall Hardik Pandya in the test format, but the cricketer has to take the final call.



?Hardik is definitely an option but it is Hardik himself who has to take the call on a Test return. Selectors are keen to see him back in whites. A couple of days ago, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly urged all-rounder Hardik Pandya to make a test comeback. Ganguly's statement came days after team India's World Test Championship Final loss against Australia at the Oval in London.



"I hope Hardik Pandya is listening. I want to see him play Test cricket, especially in these conditions [England]," urged Sourav Ganguly on India Today.



Ganguly further said it's not the right time to phase out the likes of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara from test cricket. He reckons both of the players still have plenty to offer to Indian cricket.



"Let's not jump to conclusions due to just one loss, India will always have talent. And I don't think it is time to look beyond Virat (Kohli) or (Cheteshwar) Pujara. Virat is just 34,? he added.

Kishan has played a regular role for India in white-ball matches but is yet to make his Test debut. In the Indian Premier League 2023, the Southpaw had hot and cold spells but ultimately finished with 454 runs in 16 games.

Earlier there were reports of Rohit Sharma getting a rest for the IND vs WI Test series, however, the BCCI officials have quashed the reports. The reports indicated workload management of Rohit Sharma as a key factor for giving him a break.

Meanwhile, the BCCI official also revealed that there is no threat to Cheteshwar Pujara's place in India's Test squad. With the absence of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul is serving as a blessing in disguise for him.



While Pujara is set to retain his test spot, the selectors are also keen on adding Sarfaraz Khan along with Mukesh Kumar to India's Test squad for West Indies series.

With the senior pros not having a ball of a time in the field, the young players must be given fair opportunities to slide into the side and pose as serious competition for the playing spot.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">IND vs WI: Start rewarding young players: Sanjay Manjrekar</h2>



Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar reckons BCCI should now start rewarding the players who are consistently doing good in first-class cricket. 



"About time we start rewarding the guys who are doing well in first-class cricket," said Sanjay Manjrekar. "And not just runs. The selectors could look at players who have it in them to be future Test players and succeed in foreign conditions."



He further said he would love to see three new batters and bowlers get the national call-up for the upcoming two-match IND vs WI test series, which begins on July 12 in Dominica.



"I would like to see at least three new batters come into play in the picture and new fast bowlers,"&nbsp;he said.



Manjrekar also dissected what served as one of the key ingredients of Australia's success in the ICC WTC 2023 Final against India. 



"The game changers for Australia in the WTC final - Steve Smith and Travis Head - don't play a lot of T20 cricket. So we have to find guys who are not going to be fatigued or don't have to make the adjustments from IPL to Test cricket."



Manjrekar reckons India again needs to work on its pace bowling lineup and form a new set of players, who are match ready at any given moment. Team India had a certain depth in the bowling with the services of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna among others.



However, suddenly with the injuries to a couple of pacers, the fast-bowling lineup became thin and dull and there was too much responsibility on Mohammed Siraj and Shami.



"Just a few months back I was taking pride in the depth that we have in our seam-bowling department and suddenly Bumrah is not fit. There are quite fit others like Prasidh Krishna so maybe for Test cricket, India needs to create a new line of fast bowlers. Now you should look for specific test players. If somebody gets injured, we should have backups ready. Like Scott Boland. Came in straightaway and made an impact. We had to go back to Umesh Yadav which is not a good sign," he said.

The BCCI could use the opportunity to hand national call-up to the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Eshwaran, Sarfaraz Khan, Mukesh Kumar and Rajat Patidar.

Mohd. Shami and Umesh Yadav were rested for both test and ODI series, and Chateshwar Pujara also couldn't find spot in the team. IND vs WI: Pujara is being made "Scapegoat" says Gavaskar, India?s Test Squad for West Indies series: Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has been left fuming with the BCCI's decision to drop Cheteshwar Pujara from the upcoming two-match test series against West Indies. Gavaskar reckons Pujara is being made a "scapegoat" who has been left out of the squad while the other seniors have retained their places.



Following India's loss at the World Test Championship (WTC) Final 2023, it was anticipated that the BCCI will take a few bold steps to tackle the issues. The performance of the senior players wasn't encouraging and the reports indicated that BCCI might slowly begin phasing out these players as the new WTC cycle starts against West Indies.



Meanwhile, on Friday, the Indian cricket board released India's ODI and Test squad for the tour of the West Indies, which begins on 12th July. While the squads had no surprising elements, Sunil Gavaskar wasn't impressed with the only exclusion of Cheteshwar Pujara.



?Why has he been made the scapegoat for our batting failures?" said Sunil Gavaskar. "He has been a loyal servant of Indian cricket, a quiet and able achiever. But because he doesn't have millions of followers on whatever platforms who would make a noise in case he gets dropped, you drop him? That is something beyond understanding."



The renowned commentator further expresses his frustration that nowadays the selectors don't do press conferences while announcing the squads which leaves no way to ask them questions about their decisions.



?What are the criteria for dropping him and keeping the others who failed? I don't know because nowadays there is no media interaction with the selection committee chairman or whoever where you could actually ask these questions,? he said.



Gavaskar targetted the selectors for singling out Cheteshwar Pujara just on the basis of a few poor performances, while keeping the others intact in the team despite a string of low scores.



Team India's batting had failed miserably against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 Final. Besides Ajinkya Rahane, no other batter could justify their role, however, it was only Pujara who got an axe from the side.



"Clearly only one man has been singled out while the others also failed. To me, the batting failed. Apart from Ajinkya Rahane, there was nobody who got any runs. So why Pujara has been made the fall guy is something the selectors need to explain,? he said.



Notably, before joining the Indian side for the WTC final, Pujara played a few games in the County Championship in which he slammed three centuries. However, his bat remained silent against Australia with scores of 14 and 27 in the two innings of the ultimate test.
