Rohit Sharma-Shikhar Dhawan opening pair for next ODI World Cup: Pragyan Ojha: The next T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia, is just three months away and most of the players are targeting the tournament to seal their place in the Indian squad. With more than 40 players in the reckoning, the selection of the final 20 players, who will travel Down Under for the T20 World Cup 2022, will be interesting.



Although most of the Indian players are focused on the T20 World Cup 2021, Shikhar Dhawan, who is out of the Indian T20I and Test setup for a long time, will aim to secure his seat in the ODI World Cup 2023.?



In the 50-overs format, Shikhar Dhawan has kept his dominance unharmed even though he saw a dip in his T20I and Test form. The Rohit-Dhawan opening pair has been fruitful for the Indian squad for several years and the management still prefers the duo over any other in the format.



Pragyan Ojha, the former Indian cricketer and current member of IPL GC, reckons Shikhar Dhawan is completely in the mix of players for the 2023 ODI World Cup.&nbsp;



"I am seeing the right signs. When you look at a senior player, you have to see what is happening to them. He's in the mix [for the 2023 ODI World Cup] and now, when the seniors are not there and he is just playing one format,? said Pragyan Ojha.



The 36-years old Indian opener has recently led India against West Indies in the three matches ODI series. In fact, Dhawan and Co swept the Windies in their backyard.



?He's the captain, the leader of the pack, and the batting which looked rusty in England is now looking better? he is trying to get into that space. It is clear that Rohit Sharma wants Shikhar because they both have very good partnerships," Ojha told



Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan opened the innings for India in the Champions Trophy 2013 for the first time and since then there is no looking back for the duo, especially in the 50-overs format. The pair recently completed their 5000 runs as an ODI opening duo and are the fourth pair in the world to achieve the milestone.

"They have both done a brilliant job together. I think in world cricket they are third or fourth [sic: fourth highest in ODIs as an opening pair] and Rohit believes that if someone is consistently performing or has done really well over the years, he can't be discarded. Rohit definitely gives you that cushion and it's a good thing, because in ICC events, you need that little bit of experience."



Ojha further explained that Dhawan?s fitness at the age of 36 years is his biggest strength. He pointed out that if MS Dhoni can play at the age of 40 or 41 being fit then Shikhar Dhawan can play as well.



"Rohit has said this and he is sticking to it. I am confident that Shikhar will be in the mix unless there is some forced change. I think he's in a pretty good space and he is fit and that is the benchmark. You can't just fool around with not being fit.?



?If you see MS Dhoni at 40 or 41, he made a statement where he said that if I am part of a team, I may or may not perform but nobody should be able to tell that MS Dhoni is not fit. If I am fit, if I am running around and doing everything that a young guy can do then I am happy that I am giving my best," Ojha pointed out.

The ICC Men?s Cricket World Cup 2023 is set to be hosted by India in October and November 2023. This will be the 13th edition of the International World Cup organized by the International Cricket Council in a one-day format. In this fast-paced age, where fans prefer 20-over matches, 50 overs of the match have become a challenge for the ICC.



<h3>FORMAT</h3>



This tournament will also follow the same format as the ODI Cricket World Cup 2019, which is a 10-team round-robin stage followed by the knockouts. With every win, a team will earn two points; for no results, there will be one point and no points for the losing side.&nbsp;



The top four teams on the points table will advance to the semi-finals. The winner of the semi-final matches will contest the final to win the ICC Men?s Cricket World Cup title.



<h3>QUALIFICATION</h3>

Pakistan will not take part in ODI World Cup 2023 in India, says PCB Chairman: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Ramiz Raja has threatened India that it will not take part in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be held in India if India doesn?t make a trip to Pakistan for the next Asia Cup.&nbsp;



Raja further advocated his stance by saying ?Who will watch? the World Cup if Pakistan pulls out of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India?



?If Pakistan doesn't take part in the World Cup scheduled in India next year, who will watch it? We have a clear stand: If the Indian team comes here [for Asia Cup 2023] then we will go for the World Cup. If they don't come then they can play the World Cup without us," Raja told Urdu News.



The former Pakistani cricketer added that his side has defeated the ?Billion Dollar Economy Team? twice in the recent past - in T20 World Cup 2021 and in Asia Cup 2022, earlier this year.

"We will adopt an aggressive approach. Our team is showing performance. I've always said we need to improve the economy of Pakistan cricket, and that can only happen when we perform well. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, we beat India. We beat India in the T20 Asia Cup. In one year, the Pakistan cricket team defeated a billion-dollar economy team twice," he added.



Interestingly, a few months ago, Jay Shah, secretary of the BCCI and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President, said that the Indian national cricket team won?t travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. The continental tournament will be shifted to a neutral venue if India were to take part.



Following the statement, PCB came to action and called an emergency meeting with its officials. The cricket board expressed its dissatisfaction with Shah?s remark as they were said without prior consultation with the office bearers of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Pakistan even pressurised to renounce its ACC membership after the statement.



Meanwhile, Anurag Thakur, Union Sports Minister, stated that India can?t be overlooked as it is a major power in World Sports.



"Wait for the right time. India is a major power in the world of sports &amp; no country can overlook India," said the Union Sports Minister to news agency ANI.

ICC World Cup Super League Points: Afghanistan qualify for World Cup 2023: Afghanistan has finally confirmed its automatic qualification in the next year?s Cricket World Cup after their ODI match against Sri Lanka was abandoned due to rain. The Asian side will now directly enter the group stage of the ODI World Cup 2023, which will be held in India.



They have sealed a total of 115 rating points and are ranked seventh in the points table, which is topped by team India. The Afghan players have managed to win 11 out of 14 matches so far and are safely cruising to the Cricket World Cup next year.



Notably, the top eight teams in the points table will get a direct ticket to play ODI World Cup 2023. Team India will get an automatic qualification for the showpiece event as they are the host of the tournament.



The Men in Blue have accumulated a total of 134 points in 20 matches, which is 9 points more than the second-ranked team. England and New Zealand are tied in 125 points and are thus ranked second and third respectively. While Australia, Bangladesh and Pakistan are levelled at 120 points which places them in fourth, fifth and sixth position respectively.



However, Sri Lanka?s chances for direct qualification are in jeopardy. The Lankan players will have to fetch positive results from all of their remaining ODI matches in order to get placed in the top eight-ranked side.&nbsp;



The Dhasun Shanaka-led side still has four games left in the ODI World Cup Super League. If they somehow manage to win all their remaining matches they can also comfortably leap ahead of West Indies, which is currently ranked the eighth side.?

?Not focusing on ODI World Cup right now,? says Rohit Sharma ahead of BANvsIND 1st ODI: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has made a bold statement relating to the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023 which will be held in India. Sharma reckons that the World Cup is still 8-9 months away and the team isn?t focusing on it as of now, although they have got a fair idea of what they need from the event.



The ongoing India tour of Bangladesh 2022 will be crucial for Indians as it will mark the beginning of World Cup 2023 preparations. The next world cup is scheduled in India and the conditions as well as pitches in India closely resemble what Bangladesh offers.



Moreover, all the senior players will be in action against Bangladesh following the long haul. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul will be seen in action once again after a long time in the ODIs.

I think it's very, very important for us not to start thinking about so many things about the World Cup; this is the combination, that is the combination, we need to play this guy, that guy.



Although every series is a preparation for a future event, once inch closer to the World Cup, the management will narrow down their plans and strategies for the World Cup 2023, added the Indian captain.



"I and the coach have a fair idea about what we want to do and we will narrow it down once we get closer to the World Cup. But I think we just want to play cricket, play good cricket until the World Cup comes up. But first, winning the series is what we are looking at. We are looking at one game at a time and seeing how we can play well in that game. And then think about the second and third. So, thinking too far ahead sometimes doesn't help."

BCCI in trouble, ICC 2023 ODI World Cup could move out of India: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) looks in deep trouble as there is a good possibility of it losing the hosting rights of the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Recently, Ramiz Raja, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chair, has raised a query about whether the ICC is confident enough to host the next 50-over World Cup in India.



All this happened due to the underlying situation between India and Pakistan in the recent past. While it all began with Jay Shah, BCCI secretary, saying that the Indian side will not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023. In response to this, Ramiz Raja threatened to boycott the next 50-over World Cup in India if India doesn?t visit Pakistan for the Asia Cup.



The PCB head has also blamed the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not intervening in the matter and doing sufficient to bring both teams on the same page. He also accused the governing body for not ensuring smooth cricketing ties between India and Pakistan.



Further, in the latest development, Ramiz Raja has asked whether the ICC is certain to host the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India owing to tax-related issues.&nbsp;



Notably, when a country hosts a World Cup event, it has to provide ICC with tax exemptions from the ruling government. The last time when India hosted an ICC World Cup in 2016, ICC received an interim tax benefit to hold a 10.3% surcharge from India?s revenue share - for which the Indian cricket board is fighting a legal battle.



For the upcoming World Cup, which is supposed to be held in India, the ICC has again received an interim tax benefit, however, the BCCI isn?t too pleased with it.

It?s important to note that, the Indian government didn?t give a tax benefit to ICC during the World Cup 2016. As a result, ICC deducted roughly INR 190 Crores from BCCI?s annual revenue share. If BCCI once again fails to solve the tax issue for the 2023 World Cup, it may end up losing a whopping sum of INR 900 Crores as the tax bill has been raised to 21.84%.



?It?s BCCI?s money. If the ICC can?t settle this issue before the World Cup arrives and end up deducting it from India?s revenue share from the ICC, even this will end up in a legal battle,? say those tracking developments.



The ICC has asked to solve the issue with the Indian government as soon as possible. If BCCI fails to do that, ICC will be left with a single choice of moving the 50-over World Cup out of India.



As per the ICC rules, the hosting nation has to provide tax exemptions from the ruling government for the World Cup.

BCCI shortlist 20 cricketers for World Cup 2023, BCCI review meeting overview: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a timely step to maintain and rotate the 20 shortlisted cricketers on regular basis in the lead-up to the ODI World Cup 2023. The move comes in wake of players' frequent injury reports and following India's disappointing performance in the T20 World Cup 2022.



A review meeting was organised by the BCCI on 1st January 2023 to draw an outline for the upcoming ODI World Cup which will be held in India. The discussion involved shortlisting the set of potential cricketers who will perform for the team and keeping a check on their fitness and workload management throughout the season.



?The BCCI has shortlisted 20 players who will be rotated till the 50 overs ICC World Cup,? BCCI secretary Jay Shah said after the review meeting in Mumbai.?



Prominent personalities including BCCI chief Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, chairman of selection committee Chetan Sharma, Head of NCA VVS Laxman, head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma attended the review meeting.

<h2>BCCI Review Meeting Overview</h2>



<ul>
<li>20 cricketers have been shortlisted by the cricket board and will be named in the Indian ODI squad on a rotation basis till the ODI World Cup 2023.</li>



<li>If any player delivers exceptional performances in the domestic circuit consistently, then the selectors may include him in the World Cup squad.</li>



<li>National Cricket Academy (NCA) will have the final say on players fitness. </li>



<li>Cricketers will be picked in the Indian squad only if they get a green signal from the NCA officials.</li>



<li>The officials also touched on the issue of players' workload management, availability and frequent injuries.</li>



<li>The Yo-Yo test and Dexa will now play an essential role in the selection of a player on the national side. </li>



<li>NCA and the IPL franchise will work in tandem to maximise the player's potential and at the same time to manage their workload.</li>
</ul>



?The Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will now be part of selection criteria and implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players. Keeping in mind the Men?s FTP and preparations for ICC CWC 2023, the NCA will work in tandem with the IPL franchises to monitor the targeted Indian players participating in the IPL 2023,? read the statement issued by the BCCI following the review meeting.

The BCCI has also given a provision for the selection of players via domestic performances. This will allow all the national players a fair chance. Domestic giants such as Rajat Patidar, Rahul Tripathi, Umran Malik, and Shahbaz Ahmed can still try to get a slot in the top 15 for the ICC World Cup 2023. The Indian team will be keenly looking for a good spin combination as the World Cup will be played in India, where tracks are very spin friendly.
