South African veteran cricketer David Miller has been named as the captain of Paarl Royals, which is the team owned by Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals in South Africa?s very own T20 league which is set to have its inaugural season this year, i.e, SA20.&nbsp;



David Miller is one of the most experienced players in the current South African international team and he has some captaincy experience to his name as well. He used to be the captain of IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab (now known as Punjab Kings). He is also the current captain of Barbados Royals in the ongoing season of the Carribean Premier League and he captained the South African T20I team in a 3-match series against England in July (which they won 2-1).&nbsp;



While it is true that David Miler had seen a dip in his form in the last 3-4 years, the 33-year old has redeemed his reputation as a responsible finisher in T20 cricket lately and it started with IPL 2022. Killer Miller was simply phenomenal with his new side. He scored 481 runs in 16 matches in IPL 2022 and was one of the key players in GT?s IPL winning side.?



It was due to these recent accomplishments (along with the fact that Miller is one of the most popular cricketers in South Africa) that led to Paarl Royals appointing David Miller as their captain for the inaugural season of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2022%E2%80%9323_SA20">SA20</a>.?

SA20 2024: Some brilliant unbeaten fighting knocks by the duo of Paarl Royals Skipper David Miller (75 runs in 42 balls) and middle-order batsman Mitchell Van Buuren (72 runs in 40 balls), along with the duo's unbeaten partnership of 141 runs for the 4th wicket, led the Royals to their second consecutive victory in the 2nd season of the SA20 as the Paarl-based side successfully managed to defeat the Pretoria Capitals by 10 runs at Centurion's Supersport Park. The Paarl Royals are currently in second place in the SA 2024 overall standings with two wins in two games.



The Paarl-based team didn't have a good start as opener Jason Roy (5 runs) and top-order batter Wihan Lube (12 runs) were sent back to the pavilion inside the first 6 overs.? Wicket-keeper Batsman Jos Butter wasn't able to convert his good start into a huge score and got dismissed by fellow countrymen Adil Rashid after managing to score 39 runs in 23 balls.



Royals Skipper David Miller and Mitchell Van Buuren played some brilliant knocks, and their knocks took the team from Paarl to an outstanding score of 210 runs. Killer Miller's unbeaten knock of 75 runs consisted of eight fours and three sixes, while Van Buuren smashed seven fours and three maximums in his unbeaten knock of 72 runs.

Chasing a big total of 211 runs, the team from Pretoria didn't have a good start, as opener Phil Salt (0 runs) and top-order batsman Theunis de Bruyn (4 runs) were sent back to the dugout by Paarl Royals seamer Lungi Ngidi. Fighting knocks from Will Jacks (58 runs in 34 balls) and Rilee Rossouw (82 runs in 45 balls) and a cameo of 20 runs from nine balls by Capitals skipper Jimmy Neesham kept their team in the chase, but it wasn't enough as no other batter was able to provide any kind of support to the trio of Neesham, Jacks, and Rossow, and the team from Pretoria were eventually bundled out for 200 runs in 20 overs. Lungi Ngidi starred with the ball for the Royals with his four-wicket haul. Obed McCoy, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Bjorn Fortuin took one wicket each.

The Paarl Royals have jumped to second place with eight points riding on the back of their second consecutive victory in two games. The winning team gets 4 points per win in the second season of the SA20.



The number one position in the overall standings is occupied by the DuSuperGiants,iants with eight points in two matches. MI Cape Town are at number three with five points from two matches, and the Cape Town-based team earned a bonus point from their comfortable victory against the Joburg Super Kings.



Defending Champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape are in fourth place in the overall standings with two points in two matches. The opening game of this season of SA 20 between the Joburg Super Kings and the Sunrisers Eastern Cape was washed out due to rain, thereby giving both teams two points each.



The fifth place in the points table is occupied by the Super Kings with two points in two matches, while the Pretoria Capitals are in the last position with 0 points in their two matches.

SA20 2024 Points Table: Updated Standings: Durban Super Giants locked horns with Paarl Royals in match number 22 of the ongoing SA20 2024. Durban has given twin setbacks to the Paarl following two big defeats in the span of three days. Fixture number 22 saw Durban Super Giants win the game by a mammoth 125 runs against Paarl Royals at the Kingsmed, Durban.



After opting to bat first, Durban Super Giants went on a run-scoring spree right from the ball one. Though they suffered breakthroughs consistently, the runs never stopped ticking the scoreboard. 



It was opener Matthew Breetzke, who set the tone for the game with his sensational 43-ball 73 run innings following which the other batters too made hays while the sun shone. Marcus Stoinis played a decent innings of 38 runs in the middle order, but it was Henrich Klaasen who gave the finishing touch to the innings.



Klaasen blew Paarl Royals with his astounding half-century knock in just 17 deliveries. His innings saw a flurry of sixes and fours as he helped his side post a total of 208 runs in 20 overs.



The task of 208 runs was huge in front of the Royals, who had already suffered a loss at the hands of the Super Giants two days back. The pressure of scoring at par with the required run rate didn't let any of the Royals' batters take a sigh of relief. For them, the task was to whack the bowlers from ball one, which apparently didn't go well.



Paarl Royals lost wickets in clusters and barring two of their batters, who scored 14 and 36 runs, none of the remaining players could cross the double digits.



In response to the 208 runs total posted by Durban Super Giants, Paarl Royals succumbed in just 13.2 overs after scoring 83 runs. Royals were bowled out by the Super Giants, won the fixture by 125 runs, and took an unassailable lead as we advance in SA20 2024.

With a total of 28 points in eight matches, Durban Super Giants is comfortably placed atop the SA20 2024 Points Table. The Super Giants have managed to win 6 of their 8 matches so far in the tournament. 



The team has already confirmed its spot in the SA20 2024 top four, however, they won't stop this early. Super Giants will ensure that they finish in the top 2 after the end of the league stage.

Former India wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik is having a great time in the ongoing SA20 2025 for the Paarl Royals. The wicketkeeper batter played his best innings in the tournament on Thursday (30th January) against Joburg Super Kings at The Wanderers Stadium, in Johannesburg. 
Dinesh Karthik had a great outing with the bat for his team and helped his team post a fighting total on the board. The keeper-batter slammed a magnificent half-century and entertained the crowd both in South Africa as well as back home in India with his power-hitting. 
The highlight of Dinesh Karthik's innings was the three sixes that he hit on three balls against Wihan Lubbe in Paarl Royals' 13th over. He hit the first six on a free hit as he went down on the knees and hit a slog sweep into the deep mid-wicket stands for a massive six. 
On the next ball, Lubbe bowled a short ball, which Dinesh Karthik made full use of. He pulled the ball over deep square leg for his second consecutive six and put the spinner under pressure. Then on the next ball, the keeper-batter again was on his knees and played a slog sweep, which went over mid-wicket into the crowd.

Dinesh Karthik played a sensational innings of 53 runs off 39 balls. He batted with a strike rate of over 135 and also slammed 4 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Thanks to his effort with the bat, Paarl Royals posted a fighting total of 150 runs on the board. 
His effort, however, went in vain as Joburg Super Kings chased the target with 7 wickets in hand. Faf du Plessis was the star with the bat for his team as he played an innings of 87 runs off 55 balls. He batted with a strike rate of 158 and slammed 4 fours and 7 sixes to take his team home.

India Cricket Team fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will be getting the Men's Cricketer of the Year award during the BCCI annual awards. The BCCI Naman Annual Awards are all set to take place in Mumbai on Saturday (1st February). 
Jasprit Bumrah will be receiving the prestigious award because of his exceptional performance with the ball in 2024. He was Player of the Tournament in the T20 World Cup 2024, where he picked up 15 wickets, and also was the leading wicket-taker in Tests with 71 wickets to his name. 
Another holder of the major award will be India Women's cricketer Smriti Mandhana, who will be getting the BCCI's Women's Cricketer of the Year award. The opening batter was at her best with the bat as she mustered over 700 runs in ODIs in 2024 and was the leading run-getter for the team. 
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also will be honouring Ravichandran Ashwin with a special award. The off-spinner recently retired from international cricket and ended his career as one of the best players for the India Cricket Team. 
The best debut of the year award will be going to India batter Sarfaraz Khan for his heroics in his maiden game for India. He played his first match against England in the Test series and slammed a terrific half-century, and following that, he has been a consistent member of the team. Batting great Sachin Tendulkar will be presented with the lifetime achievement award for his contributions.

Aakash Chopra has suggested two massive changes for India for the fourth IND vs ENG T20I. The cricketer-turned-commentator wants Arshdeep Singh to be back for the team in the place of Washington Sundar and also wants Shivam Dube to replace Dhruv Jurel in the team.
