Hardik Pandya is perfect candidate to lead India in future in T20Is, says Scott Styris: All-rounder Hardik Pandya has made giant strides to gear up his cricketing career after making a comeback to the Indian side. From being dropped off the team to leading the national side against Ireland and West Indies, a lot changed for the junior Pandya. The extent of his brilliance is such that his name is now being discussed amongst the probables who can lead team India in the near future. In fact, he is placed way ahead of any other candidate.



Notably, the cricket experts and veterans are also impressed with how Hardik Pandya has fared following his comeback to the Indian side. Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris, recently, said that he won?t be surprised if Hardik Pandya leads team India in the near future.



"I wouldn't be surprised maybe not for this tournament, but in the future that we do see Hardik Pandya leading this T20 team,? Scott Styris said in News 18's show 'Sports Over the Top.'



After the completion of the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE, Hardik Pandya dropped himself and decided to focus on his fitness. He made himself unavailable for national selection and dedicatedly worked to get in better shape.



He made his first cricket appearance, after making himself unavailable, in the Tata IPL 2022 as the skipper of Gujarat Titans. While not many people enjoyed GT?s decision to appoint Hardik as the leader of the group, the all-rounder proved everyone wrong and won the IPL title in his very first season.

?I think it's an intriguing discussion because again, six months ago, I don't think it's something we all thought would even be talked about, but Hardik Pandya has made every poster winner,? he added.



"So, I don't mind this for Hardik Pandya to be given some leadership in this side, whether now be the vice-captain or in the future as a captain because quite rightly what is the direction this Indian team wants to go, whether it's T20 in terms of its brand, how do they want to play the game? Because Hardik Pandya certainly has the personality of today's player, where they want to go out and expand and show their skills and really just show off to everybody with how good they are. And I think that sort of leadership actually breeds itself and lends itself throughout the team to everybody playing with that style," Styris added.



Interestingly, Hardik Pandya is also open to the role of captaining team India in the future. When asked whether he is keen on the role [leadership], Pandya said: ?Yeah, why not??



"If given a chance, I'll be more than happy to do it. But for now, we have a World Cup coming, it's about getting better as a team,? said Hardik Pandya after INDvsWI 5th T20I.

Scott Styris in favour of Indian Premier League (IPL) expansion to 3-month window: The Indian Premier League (IPL) is currently right on track toward the expansion of league. Year by year we have seen how the elite Indian tournament has evolved in all dimensions, however, earlier, there was a concern about how the BCCI would be able to carve out a 3-month long window for the league in the coming years. With the international scheduling getting extensively cluttered, it became more of a challenge for the richest cricket board.



However, tackling all the bumps, BCCI is certainly going to get an exclusive three-month long window for the Indian Premier League in the coming few years.&nbsp;



In fact, in the Tata IPL 2022, the league saw 74 matches, which was an upgrade from 60 matches in IPL 2021. As per the BCCI?s projections, the league will see a peak of 10 matches in the next three years while the total number of matches will reach 94 by 2027.



Notably, in the recently announced ICC Future Tour Programme for all the full member nations, the governing body has awarded a full two-month exclusive window to the IPL.



The decision has been welcomed by several experts including former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris who hailed the ICC?s decision and reckoned that in the leading few years, IPL will have a three-month window.



"I remember 10 years ago the conversation was all around how it was going to creep four or five days each year and it will get to a three-month season,? said Scott Styris, former New Zealand all rounder. ?Well, we're starting to get there now. It's just taking a little longer than we expected, and I think you're right. I think it will become the focal point that will allow all the players from all over the world to come together and play without any issues from a nationality perspective. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. I was in favour of it 10 years ago and I'm in favour of it now.?

<h2>India, England, Australia to play more Tests:</h2>

Styris also talked about the test scheduling and how India, Australia and England will get more matches as compared to other teams.?



Explaining the rationale behind his statement, Styris asserted that the ICC collected a large chunk of its revenue from the big-three countries (India, Australia and England).



"..I'm not sure why the surprise is there. It's the big three teams and you understand why. That's where the money in world cricket comes from. But you know, it's very, very tough thing to have a meaningful competition when teams play different amounts of games. Think about the English Premier League. Football's big in India. You know you don't see Man United play Liverpool five times and yet Burnley plays West Ham just once. You know it's an even playing field," said Styris.?

The previous Kiwi all-rounder and one of the finest T20 players of his time, Scott Styris, recently in an interview claimed how he saw Rohit Sharma?s potential back in 2008 when he shared the dressing room with the 20-year-old.

 ?It (the IPL 2008) was my first opportunity to be a teammate and see (and hear of) Rohit Sharma. He was with us at the Deccan Chargers. He was 19 or 20 years old at that time, and I could see then that this kid was something special. I?ve just come back from Sri Lanka, where I commented on India vs. Sri Lanka. I caught up with him there, and he?s still the same guy that he was 16 years ago,?

Styris was a part of the Deccan Chargers unit in 2008, the inaugural season when they seemed to be the best team on paper, having the biggest of names. However, even Styris remarked that it was the lack of balance that led to their failure as they ended at the bottom of the table.

 It was during his time in 2008 and 2009, the year Deccan Chargers lifted the trophy under Aussie skipper Adam Gilchrist, that both Rohit Sharma and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Styris">Scott Styris</a> shared a common space. He also shared that Rohit, after all these 16 years, still remains the same, as the two met during his visit to Sri Lanka, where Styris was present as a commentator. 



Rohit Sharma was last seen with India in the T20 World Cup trophy in the United States, where he emerged as the World Cup-winning captain for India, which ended their trophy drought for 11 years since the Champions Trophy and also their 13-year World Cup trophy drought.

 Rohit was moved to the Mumbai Indians camp in the IPL 2011 auction from the Deccan Chargers, as he emerged to be an immensely successful player and a skipper in the Mumbai camp. He led the Mumbaikars to a 5-time IPL championship, as he became one of the most successful IPL captains.

Rohit?s legacy is truly amazing if seen today, and Styris said he had seen the potential and his brilliance years back when Sharma was just a kid, roughly 20 or 21 years of age. After having announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game, he turned his fortune towards the longest format and is currently eyeing the World Test Championship after India failed to win it twice despite qualifying for the finals. 



Rohit will next be seen captaining the Indian side for the Bangladesh tour, followed by the New Zealand home tour. The biggest challenge for him comes with India travelling to the Australian island for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later in November this year.
