Dravid said that Kohli has done extremely well in keeping the morale of the team high and is training hard.?



Dravid also said that big centuries from the bat of Kohli will come soon as the batting legend is intensely involved in his practice.&nbsp;



?In terms of keeping the morale high, it?s not difficult. Kohli does it and he is superb, the way he has trained, practiced. There?s not really much a coach can do when the match starts. Indian red-ball skipper Virat Kohli missed the ongoing Johannesburg test match against South Africa after sustaining an upper back spasm. The news came out when instead of Virat walking out for the toss, opener batsman KL Rahul showed up.



Soon the BCCI updated that the skipper has suffered an upper back spasm and won?t be available for the second match against South Africa. Hanuma Vihari was brought back in playing11 in Virat?s absence.



?Team India Captain Mr Virat Kohli had a spasm on his upper back this morning. He won?t feature in the second Test against South Africa at The Wanderers. The BCCI medical team will be monitoring him during the course of this Test match," wrote BCCI in a statement.



Team India?s test number 3, Cheteshwar Pujara, gave a much-needed update on Virat?s injury after the end of the play on day 3. Pujara, who scored a half-century in the second innings, said that Virat is recovering well and he will be fit very soon.



?Officially, I can?t say much but yes, he is definitely getting better and I feel that he will be fit soon. The physio can answer this better and I am sure an update will come from the BCCI very soon,? Pujara was quoted as saying to the reporters on Wednesday, January 5.

Replying to the fan?s query, Gavaskar replied, ?It's a valid question. This is something one could understand if Rishabh Pant had been batting on 30 and 40. This is something he had not done in Australia. There he applied himself, recognised that there will be hard times at the beginning when you come in to bat and then battling through the hard times, he got set and got to know how the pitch is. And then he played the big shots. That's what he did in Australia.?



Everyone was mesmerised with the way Pant charged down the wicket and smacked James Anderson for a six during the England tour of India, last year. He took that as a trademark for himself to put the bowler under pressure, but that hasn't worked for the cricketer in the recent past.



Gavaskar reckons that the stumper batsman can?t lean on a similar approach every time he comes out to play, at least not at the beginning of his innings.



"This is something we saw against England, at the start of the series. When England came to India, he was jumping down the pitch and trying to hit James Anderson? he did that so well. But after that he seems to think that is the only way to play. Team India lost the 2nd test match by seven wickets, slightly denting India?s aspirations to lift the maiden test title in South Africa after touring for more than 30 years. In the chase of 202, South Africa lost Aiden Markram early in the innings. Dean Elgar and Keegan Peterson tried to pace the innings, however, the Indian pacers were brilliant enough to restrict the opposition to 229/10 with a small lead of 27 runs.



Keegan Peterson was the top run-scorer for SA with a good contribution of 62 runs while Temba Bavuma scored a quickfire 51 runs.



For India Shardul Thakur recorded his best ever test figure along with his maiden test fifer as he scalped 7 wickets while Mohammad Shami picked 2 and Jasprit Bumrah got one in his bag.

In the second innings, India?s opening partnership disappointed, as stand-in skipper Rahul was sent back at a score of 8. However, the middle order to some extent soaked the pressure and provided a much-needed cushion.



As they say, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane gave priceless oxygen supplies to their test career by counter-attacking half-century knocks under pressure. Pujara scored 53 runs while Rahane managed 58 before getting dismissed.



Team India in its second innings could only muster 266 runs owing to the steady efforts of Hanuma Vihari, who scored unbeaten 40 runs and batted until the end.



Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen picked three wickets each while Duanne Olivier picked one in India's second innings.



South Africa in pursuit of 243 runs to win the test match, just wanted to stay controlled and strong in the middle. The time was never an issue as two days game was still to be played. The host's skipper Dean Elgar lead the batting attack despite taking many body blows. Elgar remained stuck at one side and scored unbeaten 96 runs while from the other end South Africa saw healthy contributions from each batter.



Aiden Markram scored 31, Keegan Peterson scored 28, Rassie van der Dussen played a good knock of 40 runs while Temba Bavuma remained unbeaten at 23.



South Africa won the match by 7 wickets and levelled the series. The decider will be played at Newlands, Cape Town, starting January 11.

Australian Women's National Cricket Team's experienced opening batter Beth Mooney has successfully won the ICC Women's Player of the Month award for January of 2025 thanks to her impressive performances during the Women's Ashesh 2025 series versus England
The left-handed batter saw off the competition from the duo of West Indian spinner Karishma Ramharack and Indian Cricket Team's U-19 star Trisha Gongdi to win the prestigious monthly accolade. 
This is also the first time in her career that Mooney has won the player of the month award and the second consecutive monthly award for an Aussie star after in-form all-round Annabel Sutherland won the award in December of 2024.

The opener started off the ODI series slowly but she bounced back in awesome fashion with a brilliant fifty in the third One-Day International in Hobart. After the Kangaroos lost four wickets for a mere score or 59 runs, the 31-year-old played an incredible knock of 50 runs in 64 deliveries to give the Heather Knight-led team a tough fight and set the stage for the hosts to post a score of 308 runs in 50 overs and secure the victory in the contest. 
In the T20 International series, Mooney carried on with her good form, scoring 213 runs at an amazing strike rate or 146.89 and cemented her position as the top-ranked batter. She scored 75 runs in 44 balls before going on to smash an unbeaten 94 runs off 63 deliveries in Adelaide, her highest score in the shortest format of the game in five years, to guide the Kangaroos to a dominant series victory versus their Fierce-Rivals.
She also won the Player-of-the-Match accolade for her incredible performances in both the first &amp; the last T20 International games of the series and she also ended the series as the highest run getter.

Sheldon Jackson has confirmed his retirement from Indian white-ball cricket formats. He had informed management of this prior to Saurashtra's Vijay Hazare Trophy fixture against Punjab on December 31. Sheldon Jackson was an amazing player he ended his List A career with 2792 runs from 84 innings at an average of 36.25. The wicket-keeper batter also tallied 1812 runs from 80 T20s,
Sheldon Jackson also played nine games for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL match, and their performance was very amazing. He scored 61 runs at an average of 10.17, with a highest score of 16 runs. His strike rate stands at 107.02, with 5 fours and 1 six.
His achievements also include the 2022-23 Vijay Hazare Trophy season. In 86 List A matches scored a total of 2792 runs, including nine centuries and 14 fifties. In T20s, Sheldon Jackson scored 1812 runs from 84 matches, including one century and eleven half-centuries.
When Jackson announced his retirement, he also said, "I still want to keep going in first-class cricket, at least for these two games, and then take it from there. I really don't know for how long. But my immediate focus is to try and see if I can help contribute towards us making the knockouts. It's tough, but it's still possible. And from there, I'll reassess after the two games about my red-ball future. I've had the complete support of the team, and Jaydev and Niranjan Shah. I hope I can finish on a high,
