Faf du Plessis to captain Johannesburg Super Kings, Stephen Fleming set to be appointed coach: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming along with former CSK batter Faf du Plessis are set to be appointed in key positions in the Johannesburg Super Kings, a franchise owned by CSK in the CSA T20 League. The reports have emerged indicating that CSK will stick with its veterans in the commanding positions.



The CSA T20 League is the newly launched franchise-based cricket tournament by Cricket South Africa. The league is scheduled to be held in January and February next year.



Notably, Faf du Plessis is Johannesburg Super Kings? one of the five direct signings for the tournament. The franchise bought du Plessis by spending US$375,000 during the pre-signings. The other four signings made by JSK are Moeen Ali, Maheesh Theekshana, Romario Shephard and Gerald Coetzee.



However, it is still unsure whether Moeen Ali will participate in the CSA T20 League. The English all-rounder has shown interest in participating in the International League T20 (ILT20) competition. The scheduling of ILT20 and CSA T20 leagues are expected to clash, next year.



Faf?s was associated with CSK in the IPL for 10 long years in two different stints. He was a part of CSK setup from 2011 to 2015. The South African batter was later purchased in the IPL 2018 and he served the yellow franchise till 2021. He is currently linked with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League.

Du Plessis has played over 100 matches donning the yellow jersey in the IPL. He has also been part of CSK?s winning campaigns in the year 2011, 2018 and 2021. The IPL 2021 was by far his best performance as he mustered massive 633 runs in 16 outings for CSK.



The Protea batter has a rich captaincy experience and knows how Chennai Super Kings (CSK) operates which could be the reason why he is being mulled by the franchise as a captaincy candidate.



Meanwhile, veteran coach Stephen Fleming will be the head coach of Johannesburg Super Kings. Flemings will be assisted by Eric Simmons in the CSA T20 League.



Interestingly, a few reports have emerged that CSK is in the final stages of signing a contract with former Protea all-rounder Albie Morkel. However, there is no clarity about his role in the team.

In what has been the latest development as per the reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ben Stokes will leave the team?s camp after their last game league game of the <a href="https://www.iplt20.com" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.iplt20.com">Indian Premier League</a> (IPL) 2023 against Delhi Capitals on Saturday (20th May).?



Ben Stokes will go back to England to prepare for the Test against Ireland followed by the Ashes 2023. It is learned that the English Test skipper has taken the decision to his own so that he can give himself enough time to recover ahead of the home season.&nbsp;

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming also opened up about the availability of Ben Stokes for their last game against DC. He said that the all-rounder still isn?t fully fit to bowl and with Moeen Ali doing a terrific job, it is likely that they will not make any change. He said:?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) is eyeing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming to lead the senior men's Indian side following the completion of Rahul Dravid's tenure. Though no official formalities have been processed as of now, sources in the know believe Stephen Fleming to be a worthy successor to lead Team India.



Notably, the board officially invited applications for the role of head coach in the Indian side on Monday. The next coaching period will be three and half years, which will run until December 2027.



Rahul Dravid joined Team India back in 2021 and was set to complete his tenure after the end of the ODI World Cup 2023. Noting the immediate consequences, if there is a change in the coach ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, the board extended Rahul Dravid's tenure until the T20 World Cup.



Stephen Fleming has a very rich coaching history. He has been associated with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since 2009 and has led the team to five IPL titles. Besides looking after CSK in the IPL, Fleming has also tried his hands at the Big Bash League (BBL) with Melbourne Stars, Joburg Super Kings in SA20 and Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket. He has also led Southern Brave in England's The Hundred.



Given the rich legacy of Stephen Fleming in the IPL and his brilliant capabilities as a leader, he is one of the most attractive coaches to be at the helm of the Indian team. However, the BCCI's proposal requires anyone to be with the team on the road for 10 months a year, which is a big ask.



While there is a buzz around the world cricket to bring in two sets of coaches for white ball and red ball formats, the BCCI looks in no mood to entertain such things. One of the BCCI conditions in the advertisement includes anyone who gets picked as the head coach of the Indian side will be responsible for leading all three formats.



It's been learned that through the course of the <a href="https://iplt20.com">IPL</a> 2024, informal discussions have already taken place, but there is no official word at all so far. Fleming hasn't informed CSK about anything so far, neither has he agreed to the BCCI.

Notably, the condition to be on the road for close to 10 months a year, pulls back most of the candidates, who wish to coach Team India. Rahul Dravid, who replaced Ravi Shastri, was also reluctant to take up the role due to very high commitment, however, the BCCI was somehow successful in luring him. It remains to be seen if the BCCI manages to bring CSK coach Stephen Fleming on the same page. 



Besides Fleming, the other coaches on the fray are Justin Langer, the LSG coach, and VVS Laxman. 



Justin Langer recently said that he is "curious and fascinated" to be India's coach. However, he hasn't made any decision regarding the official advertisement of the BCCI. On the other side, VVS Laxman, who is currently the head of NCA, is also in the fray.

In the new turn of events, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is pinning its hopes on legendary cricketer MS Dhoni to persuade Stephen Fleming to accept BCCI's offer of taking over the head coach's duties after incumbent Rahul Dravid's tenure comes to an end in July.



With Chennai Super Kings (CSK) already out of the TATA IPL 2024, the negotiations could take place between CSK head coach Stephen Fleming and the BCCI, who are eying to rope in the former Kiwi cricketer to coach the Indian side.



Though the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Justin Langer and Mahila Jayawardene are also in the race, the BCCI is keen to have a very successful Stephen Fleming to be at the helm of the Indian team.



Fleming, who has led New Zealand in 303 matches, has been one of the most successful coaches in the IPL history, besides being the longest-serving coach of the CSK. Fleming has been at the helm of the CSK since 2009 and has led the team to five IPL titles. The Kiwi is also part of other T20 leagues around the world. 



The CSK coach also looks after the Texas Super Kings in Major League Cricket (USA) and the Joburg Super Kings in SA20 (South Africa). He is also the head coach of the Southern Brave in The Hundred competition.



If the reports are to be believed, Stephen Fleming has already been approached by the BCCI and communicated about the head coach's role. Fleming, however, hasn't responded yet. The general word is that he is reluctant to take up long-term roles due to high commitments, which won't allow him to take easy breaks.



The former Kiwi cricketer is happy to be with the T20 franchises for a short stint and then head back home to be with his family. However, the long-term Team India contract won't allow him to do the same. One of the biggest challenges of being Team India's head coach is being on the road for close to a year with just a two-month break during the IPL window.



Reports indicate that Fleming has already communicated his stance to the BCCI, following which they went to look for other individuals who could take up the role. Although the talks with other potential candidates are ongoing, the BCCI isn't in the mood to leave Fleming and has taken a final shot with MS Dhoni's assistance.



MS Dhoni, who has closely worked with Stephen Fleming in the CSK, shares a close relationship and can be a deal breaker for the BCCI. The admiration Dhoni has around the world could influence Fleming to accept BCCI's offer.



"Fleming hasn't said no. He has expressed his concerns about the tenure of the contract, which is nothing unusual. Even Rahul Dravid wasn't keen in the beginning. He was persuaded. It shouldn't be a surprise if the same thing happens with Fleming. And who better than MS Dhoni to do the job?" a BCCI source?told Hindustan Times.



"Opening channels with Dhoni during the <a href="https://iplt20.com">IPL</a> was not the right thing to do, but now it may be worth a shot," the source added.

The second match of the three-match ODI series between India and England was played on 9 February (Sunday) at Barabaati Stadium of Cuttack and in this game, the Indian Team secured an easy win by a margin of four wickets and took an unassailable lead of 2-0. Skipper Rohit Sharma played a fiery knock of 119 runs in 90 deliveries, which consisted of 12 fours and seven sixes.

The return of Rohit Sharma to his explosive form was a good news for the Indian fans but wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul delivered yet another disappointing performance with the bat in this match as well. He returned to dugout after scoring just 10 runs and even in the previous match of the series, the 31-year-old managed to score just two runs. 
In both games, the former LSG skipper had a chance to apply the finishing touches but, he returned to the pavilion and failed to help the Men in Blue get over the line. 
Even in last year's Sri Lanka tour, Rahul wasn't able to do anything special with the bat, managing to score just 31 runs in two innings. Rishabh Pant replaced him in the side in the 3rd ODI. If we take a close look at his stats, then we get to know that Rahul has amassed just 43 runs in the last four One-Day International games at a miserable average of 10.75, which goes on to reflect his struggles in the format. 
Rahul's glove work was also poor in the Cuttack ODI as his mistake led to Joe Root getting a lifeline. On his advice, skipper Rohit Sharma decided not to take the DRS review versus Root but the replays later showed that the ball was hitting the stumps.
After watching the replays, skipper Rohit regretted the decision of not taking the DRS and was very pissed off with KL Rahul. A wicketkeeper's advice is very important in taking a call of DRS reviews for LBW. 
<h2>Will Pant get a chance to play in the 3rd ODI? </h2>
The question which arises here is, will the Indian team management carry on with KL Rahul as the main wicketkeeper in the 3rd &amp; Final ODI of the series in Ahmedabad? Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant is a part of the squad as well and the 27-year-old is a better wicketkeeper than KL Rahul and also has a lot of experience of keeping the wickets on bouncy &amp; spinning tracks. 
The newly appointed LSG skipper has participated in 31 One-Day International matches for the Men in Blue, where he has managed to score 871 runs at a decent average of 33.50. He has also slammed five fifties and a century in the format. 
KL Rahul, on the other hand, has amassed 2,863 runs in 79 ODI games at an average of 47.71 with the help of seven hundreds and 18 fifties. While the statistics of the latter are better than the former, constant failures of the latter with the bat is increasing the tension of the Indian team management ahead of Champions Trophy 2025.The team management would definitely want to give an attacking batsman like Pant a chance to prove himself before the commencement of the Champions Trophy.

She scored 75 runs in 44 balls before going on to smash an unbeaten 94 runs off 63 deliveries in Adelaide, her highest score in the shortest format of the game in five years, to guide the Kangaroos to a dominant series victory versus their Fierce-Rivals.

Jomel Warrican, the slow left-arm orthodox spinner of the West Indies has been crowned ICC Men's Player of the Month for January of 2025, thanks to his brilliant performance with the ball in the two-match Test Series versus Pakistan. 
The ICC Player of the Month award recognizes the outstanding individual displays and performances of the players at the highest level of Cricket and the nominees selected for the month of January were all spin bowlers who excelled across various formats of the game.
