T20 World Cup 2024: Former Indian wicketkeeper batsman Parthiv Patel has made a huge claim regarding the selection criteria of the Men in Blue for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. According to the 38-year-old, the India vs. Afghanistan three-match T20i series won?t be seen as a selection series for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. He also feels that the inclusion of Skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the squad for the Afghanistan series indicates that the duo will board the plane to the West Indies and the USA for the 2024 T20 World Cup.



Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made their much-awaited comeback to T20 Internationals after spending more than a year away from the shortest format of the game. While Kohli missed the first encounter against Afghanistan due to personal reasons but returned for the second game and played a quickfire innings of 29 runs, skipper Rohit Sharma is having a hard time out on the field as he has registered two back-to-back ducks in the first two games against Afghanistan.



?I don?t see the IND AFG T20i series as a selection series for the upcoming World Cup. I don?t think any player, regardless of their performance, will affect the selection chances of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Once you have selected both of them for this series, it means that they will play in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit would like to score some runs. He likes to set the tone of the innings, and once he settles down on the crease, he would like to play a big innings,? Parthi Patel told Jio Cinema.



In the first and second T20 Internationals against Afghanistan, the Men in Blue successfully managed to chase down the targets set by the visitors and won comfortably by six wickets in both matches. Former Indian cricketer Saba Karim feels that the Men in Blue should once again field first, chase the target in the penultimate T20i, and test their batting depth.



?I hope they choose to field first in Bangalore. Not just to put the bowlers under the scanner but also to check out the batting depth of the team. Players like Washington Sundar and Axar Patel, who come to bat in the later half of the inning, may get a chance to show their batting prowess. This way, the selectors may get a better idea of fielding three spinners or pacers in the playing 11 after Hardik Pandya returns to the side,'' Saba Karim said.



The Indian team has already secured a series victory in the three-match T20i series against Afghanistan with a 2-0 lead. Both sides will clash against each other tonight in the penultimate T20i at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

In what comes as a huge blow to the Gujarat Titans, star pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the IPL 2024 due to a left ankle injury that requires immediate surgery. Shami is the leader of the Gujarat Titan?s pace bowling unit. His getting ruled out comes as a huge blow to the franchise, as they already lost the services of former captain Hardik Pandya, who joined the Mumbai Indians in a trade deal. Opener Shubman Gill has taken over the leadership duties of the Gujarat based team following Hardik?s departure.



The Titans have performed really well since their arrival in the Indian Premier League in 2022. They won the IPL 2022 in their debut season, and last year, they reached the final, where they lost against MS Dhoni?s CSK in a last-ball thriller. Since their arrival in the league, Shami has played a really important role in Gujarat?s success in the IPL. The speedster picked up 20 wickets in IPL 2022 and improved even more last year when he managed to get 28 scalps at an outstanding average of 18.64.



GT has not made any official announcement regarding the replacement for Shami, but they can pick a replacement from the list of players who went unsold during the 2024 IPL auction. The only condition is that the replacement?s base price cannot exceed the base price of Mohammed Shami (2 crore Indian rupees).

The 33-year old seamer, who is not a part of the Indian team?s squad for the ongoing test series against England, last played for the Men in Blue in the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in November last year.



?He (Mohammed Shami) was in London in the last week of January in order to take special ankle injections, and he was informed after three weeks that he could start doing light running and carry forward from there on.



?But the injections have not yielded any kind of results, and the only option left for him is surgery. He will shortly leave for the UK to get the surgery done on his left ankle. He is for sure not going to play any part in the IPL 2024,? a senior BCCI figure told PTI.



This recent development has raised concerns regarding the NCA?s injury rehabilitation management programme. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also struggled with a lot of injuries in the past, and he visited the NCA for treatment, but whenever he took the field, he got injured continuously and kept on visiting the NCA again and again.



Shami is a doubt for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, and his surgery will require quite a long time to heal properly. He won?t return before India?s home test match series against New Zealand and Bangladesh (October?November).

T20 World Cup 2024: The 17th season of the Tata Indian Premier League is in full flow but a much bigger and mega event is right around the corner as the 2024 T20 World Cup is set to start in the month of June after the conclusion of IPL 2024. This year's mega event will be conducted in the USA and the West Indies and India's squad for this year's World Cup is expected to be announced in the final week of April.?



IPL 2024 is going to act as a preparatory ground for the upcoming T20 World Cup and the players will be looking to give their mighty best in the T20 league so that they can cement their spots in the Men in Blue's squad for the T20 World Cup. In view of this, Lucknow Super Giants seamer Mayank Yadav has taken the world by storm with his sheer pace and a perfect execution of line and length.



He made his IPL debut this year and he has performed exceptionally well in the two matches he has featured in so far. In the first match against the Punjab Kings, the LSG pacer took three wickets which included the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma. Mayank is definitely knocking on the door of the selectors with his excellent displays and if he performs consistently throughout the entirety of IPL 2024, he will make his case even stronger to get selected in India's squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup.&nbsp;



The 21 year old has already managed to pick up six wickets in just his first two games in the IPL and he's definitely a one to watch out for. He caught the eye of the selectors when he bowled at a consistent speed of 150+ in the 2023 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was on the radar of the selectors for the test series against England but he didn't get selected as he suffered a side strain.?



In an interview with the Indian Express Mayank Yadav said, ?I was ready to play on a single leg if I was even 60 percent fit?. His main issue is his fitness. He missed out on last year's IPL due to injury and he even missed the entire season of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 due to his injury issues.

The 21 year old is aware that he needs to work on his fitness and after the match against the Punjab Kings he said, ?I suffered three major injuries in the last two years. I know I need to work on my fitness and I will work hard to stay fit and help my country win matches with my bowling?.



If Mayank Yadav overcomes his injury issues, he has the potential to become a World Class bowler for the Men in Blue and it remains what the future holds for him.?

Batting first, Afghanistan rode on the back of a solid partnership between their openers - Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, which led them to a 159-run total in 20 overs. Gurbaz played a fantastic knock of 80 runs in 56 deliveries, including five fours and as many sixes. Ibrahim Zadran, on the other hand, played second fiddle to Gurbaz and scored 44 runs in 41 deliveries.



Azmatullah, one down, played a 22-run knock following which Afghanistan couldn't hold its nerves and lost wickets on clusters. Kiwi pacers Lockie Ferguson and Trent Boult rattled the Afghan middle order to prevent any further damage on the tricky surface at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. 



It was going to be a not-so-easy kind of chase for the Kiwis, with 160 runs on the board. Further, the chase was made difficult by the New Zealand batters, who just looked to heave from ball one.



The demolition began with Fazalhaq Farooqi dismissing Finn Allen, who went for an awkward slog in the first ball of the innings. He then went on to pick Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell inside the powerplay.



Afghanistan were off to a brilliant start and they were just required to continue exerting pressure and the duo of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi did exactly what was required of them. The two accounted for the wickets of Kane Williamson, Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell in 10 overs of the play.



With already seven wickets down, New Zealand were at the score of 53 runs and a defeat was on the cards for them. To make it even harsher, Nabi and Rashid went on to pick the remaining three wickets in just a matter of the next 5 overs and restricted New Zealand to a meagre 75-run score in the loss of 10 wickets.



Afghanistan produced an upset, which will haunt the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand for a long time as they suffered a defeat by 84 runs.

Another fixture has turned out to be a low-scoring affair in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This time between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 124 runs in 20 overs. Opener Prathum Nissanka played a fine knock of 47 runs in 28 deliveries which included seven fours and a six. 



Sri Lanka got a few handy knocks as well in between the innings - Dhananjaya de Silva scored 21 runs off 26 deliveries, and Asalanka and Angelo Mathews scored 19 and 16 runs respectively, which propelled Sri Lanka to a score of 124 runs.



It was a low total, but Sri Lanka made Bangladesh toil hard for that easy win as well. The Lankans got off to a good start as they removed both the Bangladeshi openers in just 6 runs. They further picked up Bangladesh skipper Najmul Shanto for seven runs. Bangladesh were three down at 28 runs in 5.2 overs.



To rescue the team, Litton Das and Towhid Hridoy paired and stitched a match-defining 63-run partnership. The two batters took Bangladesh's score to 91 runs, but again this was not the end of the innings.



The fixture saw a twist as Sri Lanka removed both the set batters. Further to push pressure, they scalped the wickets of Shakib al Hasan and the other batters. However, Mahmudullah kept his nerves until the end to take his side over the rope bu 2 wickets in a low-scoring thriller.

Pakistan's Qualification Chances: The race for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s is getting warmed up with key teams still in the fray. So far just three teams have confirmed a place for themselves in the Super 8s of the tournament while only two teams have been eliminated. Among all the four groups, a major interest of the fans lies in the qualification scenarios of Group A, which features the likes of India, Pakistan, USA, Ireland and Canada.



Notably, Rohit Sharma-led Team India made it to the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 with their 7-wicket win over the USA at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York. With one slot in the group still up for grabs, Pakistan and USA emerge as the biggest contenders.



Interestingly, the fight which was earlier thought to be in the net run rates, has now made it completely irrelevant in Group A. Pakistan (+0.191) has sneaked above the USA (+0.127) in the net run rate and the actual battle will be on the points now.



As per the latest standings in Group A of the T20 World Cup 2024, India stands tall atop the chart followed by the USA and Pakistan. The US is placed second with two wins and a solitary loss in the three games, while, Pakistan has two losses and a solitary win so far in the three matches.

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How Pakistan can Qualify for Super 8 T20 World Cup 2024?</h2>

The prospects don't appear to be bright for Pakistan as far as their Super 8 place is concerned. With two losses upfront, they pushed themselves on the back foot, making their way ahead in the tournament tumultuous. For Pakistan to qualify for the Super 8 T20 World Cup 2024, they need to win their only remaining fixture against Ireland in Lauderhill. Also, they wouldn't want the USA to win against Ireland.



If the USA beats Ireland in its last fixture, they will be through to the Super 8s with six points. Even if the fixture between USA and Ireland gets washed out and the points are shared, then also USA will be through to the T20<a href="https://icc-cricket.com"> World Cup</a> 2024 Super 8s. However, a loss against Ireland would keep them at 4 points.



To simplify the equation, Pakistan needs to win against Ireland and hope the USA lose against Ireland to make it through to the Super 8s. However, for the USA to qualify, they just need a solitary point, even a washed-out game would work for them.



Pakistan's biggest fear is the weather forecast for Lauderhill on both the matches Pakistan vs Ireland and USA vs Ireland. If one of these two gets washed out and the points are shared, then Pakistan will see themselves getting eliminated.



The USA takes on Ireland on June 14 in Lauderhill, Florida. The same venue will also host Pakistan vs Ireland on June 16.

Australia Cricket Team has faced a massive blow ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. T20I captain Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out the entire tournament with a back injury, and there are chances that he might miss the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. 
Mitchell Marsh has been struggling with his back ever since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 started. The pacer looked in pain but continued playing for Australia before he was dropped from the team as Beau Webster replaced him for the last match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. 
Following that, Mitchell Marsh played a single game in the Big Bash League, and after that,t, he was rested from the last three matches of the BBL season to mentally and physically refresh ahead of the ICC  Champions Trophy 2025. However, it came as a big surprise that selectors ruled him out.

"Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Men's Champion's Trophy with ongoing lower back pain and dysfunction. The National Selection Panel and Australian men's medical team ruled Marsh out of the tournament with the injury which has not responded sufficiently to rehabilitation. 
"His lower back pain flared in recent weeks, leading the NSP to make the longer-term decision for Marsh to complete a more extended period of rehabilitation. Marsh will now undergo a period of further rest and rehabilitation as part of his return-to-play plan. The NSP will meet to decide on a replacement for Marsh in due course." Statement from Cricket Australia read. 
Mitchell Marsh getting ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 comes as a huge blow. The all-rounder has been the key member of the team in the white-ball cricket. Since 2023, he has been sensational with the bat, as he has averaged 44.54 in ODIs with a strike rate of 109.13. Along with this, he also has been handy with the ball. 
Cricket Australia are also mulling over the fitness of captain Pat Cummins as well. The pacer has been struggling with the ankle injury and there is no clarity over him as well. If both Marsh and Cummins get ruled out, then there will be headaches for the management as they won't have a captaincy option. 
Steve Smith and Travis Head might be asked to take over the role then. Josh Inglis also is there as he recently led the team in home summer, both in T20Is and ODIs.
