KL Rahul will not travel to Sri Lanka with<a href="https://www.icccricketschedule.com/?s=India" rel="nofollow"> Team India</a>. Therefore, he will stay in Bangalore at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and will be assessed again on September 4 ahead of the Super 4 Round of the tournament.



Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid said that Rahul has made good progress in his recovery but needs more time. "He's had an excellent week with us," Dravid said. "Really done well, done a lot of things. He's progressing really well on the route that we want to take. But he will be unavailable for the Group Stage of Asia Cup 2023."



KL Rahul's absence will be a big blow for India as he is a key member of the Indian batting line-up, and his absence will make it difficult for India to find his replacement. Rahul provides more depth in the batting line-up and has good experience in international cricket.



India's Asia Cup campaign will start on September 2 with a high-voltage clash against Pakistan at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Then, Team India will play against Nepal on September 4 at the same venue.?

In KL Rahul's absence, Ishan Kishan will get a chance to play for Team India in the Asia Cup as a Wicket-Keeper Batsman. Ishan has played good cricket in the last few months, and he has been in great touch; he will be a good replacement for KL Rahul.

NO Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman to become India's Head Coach: In a shocking development that has unfolded recently after Team India's painful six-wicket defeat against Australia in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Final, head coach Rahul Dravid is no longer looking for a contract extension as the head coach of the Indian Team. The reports have flooded after India's World Cup 2023 defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium. 



As per an article published in the Times of India, Rahul Dravid's coaching stint with Team India ended as the Men in Blue played the World Cup 2023 Final in Ahmedabad. He was appointed Team India's all-format head coach in November 2021 after Ravi Shastri's exit for two years.



If the reports are to be believed, Rahul Dravid is no longer looking for an extension to his coaching stint with Team India. The same has been communicated by him to the BCCI officials.



Furthermore, it has been reported that VVS Laxman, who will accompany a second-string Team India in the upcoming five-game T20I series against Australia, will be the obvious choice for the BCCI to hand over the reins of such a high-profile side. 



Interstingly, VVS Laxman has also shown his interest in the role and the decision on the same will be taken in a short while.



?Laxman wants to become the coach. During the World Cup, Laxman met the top board officials in this regard. He will be signing a long-time contract as the Team India coach and will travel with the players for the upcoming tour of South Africa,? a reliable source in the BCCI told TOI.



The source further added that Dravid will trace his way back to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) as the chief of the prestigious academy.



?Dravid has communicated to the BCCI that he doesn?t want to continue. He wants to go back to NCA,? the source said.



The source also added that Rahul Dravid is also in touch with a couple of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises for a two-year contract as the head coach. However, these reports can't be said to be true as one cannot be NCA chief and coach an IPL franchise simultaneously as it violates BCCI's rules.



Only one role can be taken at a time as it involves the 'Conflict of Interest'. Either Rahul Dravid can be the head of the NCA or he can take up the coaching roles in one of the IPL franchises.



As of now, VVS Laxman, who is boasted to be India's next head coach, is spearheading a second-string Indian side in the five games T20I series against Australia. The T20I series begins today (23rd November) in Vishakhapatnam.

Australian great, Ricky Ponting has shed some light on why he turned down the world's richest cricket board's offer to be the head coach of the Indian side following the end of Rahul Dravid's tenure. Ponting, who recently completed his IPL 2024 stint with Delhi Capitals, revealed that he was approached with "a little one-on-one conversation" by the officials midway through the IPL 2024.



During his recent interaction with the International Cricket Council (ICC), Ponting opened up that though he would love to be part of the senior men's side as the coach, it requires some rigorous commitment to be on the road throughout the year.



"I've seen a lot of reports about it,? Ponting told the ICC when asked whether he was approached by the BCCI for the coaching role. ?Normally these things pop up on social media before you even know about them, but there were a few little one-on-one conversations during the IPL, just to get a level of interest from me as to whether I would do it."



Taking up the role of head coach with Team India will require Ponting to quit his coaching duties with the Delhi Capitals, as it involves the conflict of interest issue as per the BCCI's rule book. Moreover, the coach has to be on the road for close to 10 months a year. 



"I'd love to be a senior coach of a national team, but with the other things that I have in my life and wanting to have a bit of time at home?everyone knows if you take a job working with the Indian team you can't be involved in an IPL team, so it would take that out of it as well."



The former World Cup-winning captain added that his present lifestyle won't allow him to be involved with a contract that requires massive commitment.



"Also, a national head coach is a 10 or 11-month-of-the-year job, and as much as I'd like to do it, it just doesn't fit into my lifestyle right now and the things that I really enjoy doing."

Besides Ponting, BCCI has also approached the likes of Justin Langer, Stephen Fleming, Mahela Jayawardene and Gautam Gambhir to get to know about their interest in taking up the head coach's contract.



"My family and my kids have spent the last five weeks over at the IPL with me and they come over every year and I had a whisper to my son about it, and I said, ?Dad?s been offered the Indian coaching job? and he said, 'Just take it dad, we would love to move over there for the next couple of years?" Ponting laughed.



"That's how much they love being over there and the culture of cricket in India, but right now it probably doesn't exactly fit into my lifestyle."



Ricky Ponting has been around the IPL for about seven years now. Earlier he was involved with Mumbai Indians, before moving to Delhi Capitals (DC) as their head coach. 



He had a mixed outing this season with his side - Delhi Capitals - narrowly missing the <a href="https://iplt20.com">IPL</a> 2024 playoff qualification. The team managed to win seven matches and lost as many in the league stages and finished sixth in the points table.



Under Ponting's watchful eyes since 2018, Delhi has made it to the playoffs three times, which includes a solitary IPL final appearance in 2020. In the last three seasons, Delhi hasn't gone past the league stages due to their underwhelming show.

Former Indian World Cup-winning cricketer Gautam Gambhir admitted that "there is no big honour than coaching your national team" and he would love to coach the Men in Blue. The statement came amidst all the rumours that he is set to replace Rahul Dravid as Team India's head coach following the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.



The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a few weeks ago, released the application for the post of head coach in the Indian team, the deadline for which is over.



To begin the hunt, the BCCI had a string of options to look at as the potential head coach of the Indian team. The likes of Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, Stephen Fleming and Mahela Jayawardene along with Gautam Gambhir were frontrunners for the role.



However, the foreign individuals didn't throw their hat as being the coach of the Indian team requires a great deal of commitment and it demands the person to be on the road for close to 10 months a year.



The foreign coaches, though, revealed that the BCCI officials contacted them to get the idea if they wish to take up the coaching role, Jay Shah has refuted all such claims asserting that the board hasn't contacted anyone.



Meanwhile, with the exit of all foreign coaches, Gautam Gambhir appears to be the front-runner to take the head coach's role in the India's national men's team.

Sharing his views on his prospect of coaching the Indian Team, Gambhir said, "I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well."



?I have not answered this question, although a lot of people have asked me. But I have to answer you now. It is 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup. If everyone starts praying for us and we start playing and representing them, India will win the World Cup. The most important thing is to be fearless," Gambhir answered when enquired about talking up the coaching role.

If the reports are believed, Gautam Gambhir has been finalised as the next head coach of the Indian team. He is set to replace Rahul Dravid, whose tenure will come to an end following the completion of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.



Notably, Gautam Gambhir was reunited with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024 in the capacity of the mentor. Gambhir has been highly touted to write the script of KKR's resurrection in the IPL 2024.



The Shreyas Iyer-led KKR had a memorable outing in the <a href="https://iplt20.com">IPL</a> 2024 which turned out to be a big season for them. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is, reportedly, in its conclusive stages of finalising Gautam Gambhir's name for the head coach's role in the Indian team. The decorated cricketer and 2011 World Cup-winning player has, though, kept a few demands in front of the BCCI in his bid to lead the Indian team as their next head coach following the completion of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.



The latest reports added that Gautam Gambhir has asked for the full authority of the team along with the demand for separate teams for the white ball and red ball format of cricket. 



The demands are reportedly agreed upon by the BCCI office bearers, who seem to have been impressed by Gautam Gambhir's attitude and zeal to lead the side.



Interestingly, Gambhir was slated to visit the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on June 18 for an official interview for the post of Team India's head coach. 



"Gauti (Gautam Gambhir) will be travelling today to Mumbai around 12 pm for the interview at BCCI Headquarters. It is almost confirmed that he is going to be the next head coach as the BCCI has agreed to the terms he presented for the head coach. The new head coach of the men's cricket team will soon be revealed. The meeting is scheduled between 2-4 pm,? a source privy to BCCI told IANS.



The incoming head coach would replace incumbent Rahul Dravid for a period of three and a half years, starting from July 1st 2024.



Dravid's tenure as India's head coach began back in 2021 after Team India's exit from the 2021 T20 World Cup under Ravi Shastri. He led India to the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2023 and even to the knockout stages of the T20 World Cups.



Rahul Dravid's original tenure ended with the completion of the ODI World Cup 2023, however, he was provided an extension until June 2024 keeping in view the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Meanwhile, this time Dravid hasn't sought any extension and has made his decision to call it quits.

The BCCI began its hunt for a new head coach with a <a href="https://documents.bcci.tv/bcci/documents/1715613178834_Head_Coach,Team_India_(Senior_Men).pdf">notification</a> release with a deadline of May 27. A string of former cricketers were reportedly approached including the likes of Ricky Ponting, Stephen Fleming, Gautam Gambhir and Justin Langer among others, who all rejected the proposal due to an insane amount of workload.



Eventually, the name that kept ringing in everyone's mind was Gautam Gambhir, who successfully plotted the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) win to the IPL 2024 Final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium against Sunrisers Hyderabad. 



When enquired about his views on coaching Team India when the talks were ongoing between him and the BCCI relating to Team India's head coach position, he said, "I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and those across the globe as well."



Now if everything becomes official and the BCCI announces him to be Rahul Dravid's successor, Gautam Gambhir will begin his stint with Team India on July 1st, 2024. He will also have to quit his IPL duties with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) due to a conflict of interest clause mentioned in the BCCI rule book.
