Sharma missed the recently concluded Test and ODI series against South Africa, which India lost, owing to a hamstring injury.



The reports suggest that Rohit Sharma has gained complete fitness and is all set to step back in the field of cricket during the upcoming ODI and T20I series against West Indies, starting February 6.&nbsp;



West Indies is fixed to tour India for three matches ODI and as many games T20I series. The ODI?s will begin on February 6 while the T20Is will commence on February 16.



?Though we haven?t received Rohit?s fitness report from the NCA yet, what we know is he has worked really hard on his fitness and is on course to return to the side. It is important for the team to have your captain and Rohit?s presence will bring a lot more confidence,? a source privy to developments was quoted as saying by News9.



?West Indies will fly in as soon as they complete their series against England and we are well prepared to host them in our bio-secure bubbles in Ahmedabad and Kolkata,? the source added.



The reports further added that chief selector Chetan Sharma led panel will have to make some tough calls for India's squad against West Indies. Pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is likely to miss out on the series due to his underwhelming performance in the recently held South Africa ODI series.

Big News for team India, Rohit Sharma clears Fitness Test ahead of West Indies series: Team India?s newly appointed white-ball skipper, Rohit Sharma has cleared the fitness test held at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) Bangalore and is confirmed to lead the Indian team in the upcoming limited-overs series against West Indies.?



West Indies is slated to tour India in the month of February for three matches One Day Internationals (ODI) and as many games T20I series. The tour will begin on February 6 with the ODI series.



The sources in the know of the development informed ANI about the same. "Yes, Rohit has cleared his fitness test and he will be leading the side in the upcoming series against West Indies," the source said.



Sharma missed his maiden series as the captain of the Indian side after being given a full-time opportunity. He sustained a hamstring blow ahead of South Africa tour due to which he was ruled out and subsequently KL Rahul was given the charge in Rohit?s absence.



After missing out on South Africa tour, Rohit spent his maximum time at the NCA completing his rehabilitation program. He regained his comprehensive fitness and also worked on his body weight to reduce further problems.

If the reports are to be believed, Rohit was asked to cut down his weight to reduce excessive load on his hamstrings. The trainers at the NCA also formed a full-fledged training program which was followed by the Indian skipper to maintain his fitness.



The sources further said that the BCCI will give much-needed break to pacer Jasprit Bumrah during the upcoming home series against West Indies. Bumrah was India?s premier bowler in the Test and ODI series against South Africa.



Considering the packed international calendar ahead and the workload of the seamer, BCCI is keen to give Bumrah a break.



"Jasprit Bumrah is all but set to be rested as his workload management is important looking at the international calendar. He featured in all Tests and ODIs against South Africa, so it is important we give him a break," the source added.



The Indian cricket board, on Wednesday, announced the revised venues for the series against West Indies. The India vs West Indies matches were earlier scheduled to play on six different venues, however, due to the surge in the covid cases, the BCCI will host the three matches ODI series in Ahmedabad?s Narendra Modi Stadium while the three matches T20I series will be held in Eden Gardens Kolkata.

INDvsWI T20I series likely to be played with 75 per cent spectators in Eden Gardens: The upcoming three matches Twenty20 International series between India and West Indies is likely to witness the involvement of the fans. The state government on Monday cleared the Eden Gardens, Kolkata to accommodate 75 per cent of fans for the matches.



The West Indies government on 31st January issued an official notification to allow 75 per cent of fans for all the indoor and outdoor sports activities taking place in the state.



The Kieron Pollard-led West Indies will visit India for three matches ODI series followed by as many matches T20I series, beginning February 16. All three T20I matches will be played in iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata.



The historic ground has a total seating capacity of 68,000 fans. With a 75 per cent green signal, the total attendance is expected to be around 50,000 for the T20I matches.



"We are thankful to the honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, chief secretary and Government of West Bengal for announcing resumption of sporting activities as well as for allowing 75 percent of the capacity of spectators back to the stadium," CAB president Avishek Dalmiya said in a statement.

The BCCI originally scheduled all the six limited-overs matches between India and West Indies to be held at six different venues across the country, however, in wake of the covid surge, the cricket board had to make tweaks to the plans.



With revised venues, all the ODI matches will be held in Ahmedabad?s Narendra Modi Stadium, beginning February 6 and all the T20I matches will be played at Eden Gardens.

The BCCI official informed that the cricket board is flexible with the scheduling of the series with West Indies. The series can be pushed further by a couple of days if more covid positive cases come up, but, if no more covid cases emerge, the tour will go as per the original schedule.



West Indies squad has also arrived at the Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday. The touring official confirmed that the entire squad has tested negative before their departure and after landing in Ahmedabad.



"We were all negative before we left Barbados. And all negative on our arrival tests at the airport yesterday in Ahmedabad. We are in room isolation on a separate floor to the Indian team as per the protocols," the top-ranked official told Cricbuzz.

More trouble for team India, Axar Patel joins list of Covid infected players - INDvsWI: Dark clouds have begun to threaten the West Indies tour of India, as spin bowling all-rounder Axar Patel become the fifth Indian player to come in contact with the dreaded virus ahead of the ODI series against the West Indies. It has been learnt that Axar Patel was yet to join the Indian contingent in Ahmedabad.?



Earlier, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan and Ruturaj Gaikwad along with four other members of the Indian ODI squad were tested covid positive. Navdeep Saini, who is picked as a backup pacer for the ODI series against West Indies, also returned Covid positive on Wednesday.



It must be noted that Axar Patel is only available to play the three matches T20I series against West Indies. The cricketer will join the Indian squad following the completion of the three matches ODI series, starting February 6.

Patel is expected to recover well and join team India for the T20I series. He still has around two weeks to recuperate well before the start of the T20I series.



The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) earlier roped in Mayank Agarwal for the ODI squad after seven members were tested covid positive on Wednesday.

The recent reports suggest that the cricket board is likely to bring in Ishan Kishan if more Covid cases erupt.



The three matches ODI series between India and West Indies is likely to go as per the original schedule. An extended ODI squad was picked by the BCCI to counter such Covid related issues.



It must be noted that the West Indies squad has also arrived in Ahmedabad. The contingent was all negative before their departure and upon landing in Ahmedabad.



The India vs West Indies 1st ODI will be a historic match for the hosts. Team India will become the first-ever team to feature in 1000 ODI games. Australia is just behind India with 958 ODI appearances.

INDvsWI three T20Is to be held behind closed doors, confirm Sourav Ganguly: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, Sourav Ganguly on Friday confirmed that the upcoming three matches T20I series between India and West Indies will also be held behind closed doors. India and West Indies will lock horns in three matches T20I series in Kolkata, starting February 16.



Despite the permission granted for 75 per cent of fans by the West Bengal government for all the outdoor and indoor sports activities, the BCCI wants to host the matches in a completely controlled environment.



The move has been taken to ensure players safety amid the rising concerns of the Covid-19.



?Let me put this on record. We are not allowing spectators at the Eden Gardens for the three T20 Internationals. There will not be any tickets for general public. The only people allowed are CAB officials and representatives of the various units.? Ganguly was quoted as saying by NDTV.



Ganguly further added that the cricket board doesn?t want to risk players life by allowing spectators.

?In these times, we can?t risk the health of the players by allowing spectators. No tickets for the stands of Life or Associate members will be issued. Obviously, we have the clearance of the West Bengal government but BCCI doesn?t want to risk the health safety of players.? he added&nbsp;



It must be noted that the three matches ODI series between India and West Indies is also slated to be held behind closed doors in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;



Unfortunately, eight members of the Indian contingent have already tested covid positive for the dreaded virus. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer are undergoing their isolation period after they returned covid positive on Wednesday.



The ODI series will go as per the schedule, despite a few covid positive cases. Rohit Sharma led India will take on Kieron Pollard led West Indies on 6th February in Ahmedadbad?s Narendra Modi Stadium to embark on the three matches ODI series.
