Hasaranga and Theekshana added some runs to Sri Lanka's late counterpunch attempt, but the Dutch were precise with their lines and didn't allow any easy passes and were finally able to restrict Sri Lanka to 233 only.</p>



<p>Though Sri Lanka were poor with the bat, they were excellent with the new ball. Madushanka produced considerable swing to knock out three of the top five. Wanindu Hasaranga picked up where he left off at the opposite end, striking in his very first ball. Scott Edwards' runout was another level of unluck and Dutch were all drowning in the sea of spin from Hasaranga. Max ODowd and Logan van Beek's late partnership get them beyond 100, but Maheesh Theekshana returned for a second spell and finished the job, emerging as the top wicket-taker of the day.</p>

The visitors got off to a dashing start thanks to Phil Salt as they were sitting comfortably at a score of 74-0 but, due to an unfortunate miscommunication in running between the wickets, Salt got dismissed and went back to pavilion in the ninth over after playing a good knock of 45 runs. </p>
<p>Following his dismissal, things started to become uneasy for the tourists and they lost wickets in quick succession as the Englishmen were restricted to a score of 77-3 after the conclusion of the powerplay. </p>
<p>Skipper Jos Buttler and young batting all-rounder Jacob Bethell scored fifties and tried to steady the innings of England but eventually, they got dismissed and things became even more difficult for the visitors. The Three Lions got all out for a score of 248 runs in 47.4 overs and in this way, the Indian team had a target of 249 runs to win.</p>
<p>Rohit Sharma &amp; CO achieved the target in 38.4 overs for 6 wickets. However, the Indian team did not have a good start. Rohit Sharma’s struggles in the 2024-25 season continued, with a dismal record across all formats—scoring only 166 runs in 16 innings at an average of just over 10.</p>

After Iyer’s departure, Axar Patel picked up where he left off, contributing a crucial 52 off 47 balls before being undone by a beautiful leg-spinner from Adil Rashid.</p>
<p>The real match-winner, however, was Shubman Gill, whose outstanding 87 firmly put India in control. A late flurry of wickets caused some jitters, briefly delaying the inevitable, but Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya held their nerve to see India over the line. Sakib Mahmood and Adil Rashid picked up two wickets each, while Jofra Archer and Jacob Bethell chipped in with one apiece.
