<p><strong>WTC Latest Standings</strong>: The West Indies have just done the unimaginable, as they have pulled off an unbelievable comeback in the second and final test match of the two-match test series between Australia and the West Indies by defeating the hosts by eight runs at Brisbane's mighty Gabba Stadium. Shamar Joseph (7-68), who was cleared by doctors following a possible stress fracture on his right toe, tore apart the whole Australian batting unit, taking his maiden seven-wicket haul in Australia's second innings. The Windies also became the first team in cricket history to upset defending World Cup champions Australia in a pink-ball test.</p>



<p>The Men in Maroon?s victory in the second test ensured that the series ended in a 1-1 draw between the two sides as the visitors avoided being whitewashed in the two-match test series. The Windies got the opportunity to bat first in the second test, as they scored 311 runs in their first inning. In reply, the hosts posted a total of 289-9 (declared) in their first inning. Later, the Men in Maroon were all out for 192 runs thanks to the brilliant bowling efforts of seamer Josh Hazlewood (3-23) and off-spinner Nathan Lyon (3-42). Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green picked up 1 wicket each as the hosts were asked to chase 216 runs, which looked pretty easy for the Aussies.</p>

<p>The sixth position is occupied by Pakistan, as they have a PCT of 36.66 from five matches. They have won two games and lost the other three, as they lost the three-match series against Australia 3-0.</p>



<p>Bangladesh is at number 5, with a PCT of 50.00.They have played two games so far and have won one and lost one match. New Zealand, who are at number 4 in the points table, also have the same PCT of 50.00 as the Bengal Tigers, as they have won one game and faced defeat in one match.</p>



<p>The third position in the WTC points table is South Africa, with a PCT of 50.00 as well. Their previous Test Series against India ended in a tie, with both teams winning one game each.</p>



<p>India is in the second spot in the overall standings with a PCT of 54.16. They have tasted success in two games and faced defeat in one match against South Africa. If the Men in Blue win the ongoing first test match against England, then they will leapfrog Australia for the first spot in the points table.</p>

<p><strong>ICC WTC Points Table Updated after IND vs ENG 1st Test</strong>: In what proved to be a really exciting and nail-biting fixture, England, led by Ben Stokes riding on the back of heroics from Ollie Pope (196 runs) and debutant Tom Hartley (7-62) defeated the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue by 28 runs. This was India?s fourth defeat in 48 test matches at home as the Three Lions executed the biggest comeback on Indian soil by a visiting team. A win in the first test means that England now has a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test Series.</p>



<p>Chasing a fourth-inning score of 231 runs, debutant Tom Hartley (7-62) tore apart the entire Indian batting unit with his seven-wicket haul, which included the big dismissals of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill Ravinchandran Ashwin, Ks Bharat, and Mohammed Siraj as the Men in Blue were bowled out for just 202 runs. Men in Blue Skipper Rohit Sharma was the top scorer for the Indians with 39 runs, while Ashwin (28 runs) and KS Bharat (28 runs) stabilized the Indian innings with a fifty-run partnership for the eighth wicket, but Tom Hartley had some other plans.</p>



<p>England youngster Ollie Pope (196 runs) played one of the best innings in the history of the game by a visiting player on Indian soil, and his knock helped the Three Lions post a massive total of 420 runs on the board. Vice Captain Jasprit Bumrah (4-41) was the best Indian bowler with his four-wicket haul.</p>



<p>The visitors won the toss and chose to bat first, but they had a forgetful day 1 as they were all out for 246 runs, with skipper Ben Stokes playing the role of the lone warrior with his knock of 70 runs. Ravindra Jadeja (3-88) and Ravichandran Ashwin (3-68) took three wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah (2-28) and Axar Patel (2-33) got two scalps each.</p>



<p>In reply, the Indians got off to a really good start as Yashasvi Jaiswal played his own version of Bazball against the English bowlers with his stunning knock of 80 runs. Ravindra Jadeja (87 runs) and KL Rahul (86 runs) allowed the hosts to take a 190-run lead in the first inning with a total of 436 runs on the board.</p>



<p>The defeat against England in the first test match is India?s second defeat at home in a test match in the last year. <p><strong>WTC points table:</strong> The Rohit Sharma led Indian team secured the first rank of the World Test Championship 2023?25 points table on Sunday, 3rd March. The Men in Blue moved to the first rank following Australia's victory over New Zealand in the first test match of their two-match test series.?</p>



<p>The Aussies dominating victory by a margin of 172 runs in the first test against the Black Caps allowed India to move to the top of the overall standings of the WTC 2023-25 cycle with a pct of 64.58%.</p>



<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Updated WTC 2023-25 points table following Australia's victory in the first test against New Zealand:</h4>



<p>Australia, riding on the back of Cameron Green?s impressive unbeaten knock of 174 runs, managed to score 383 runs in their first inning, while Kiwi Pacer Matt Henry took a five-wicket haul against the Aussies.?In reply, the Black Caps batting unit struggled as they were bundled out for 179 runs in their first inning. Glenn Phillips top-scored for the hosts with his inning of 71 runs, while Nathan Lyon from Australia picked up four wickets and gave away just 43 runs.</p>

<p>The Australians, in their second inning, put a score of 164 runs on the board, with Nathan Lyon (41 runs in 46 balls) top scoring for the visitors. Kiwi All Rounder Glenn Phillips (5-45) picked up a fifer against the Aussies in their second inning.</p>



<p>Chasing a total of 369 runs on the fourth day of the first test match, the Black Caps were bundled out for 196 runs, which allowed the Kangaroos to win the first test by 172 runs. Nathan Lyon (6-65) was the top wicket-taker for the visitors in the fourth inning of the match.</p>



<p>Lyon emerged as the hero for the Australians with his phenomenal 10-wicket haul, having picked up four wickets in the first inning and six wickets in the second inning. His 10-wicket haul against New Zealand in New Zealand meant that the 36-year-old became the first spinner since 2006 to secure a 10-wicket haul in New Zealand.</p>



<p>Talking about the Indian cricket team, they are anticipated to retain the number one position in the WTC 2023-25 points table if they manage to win the fifth and final test match against England, which is set to start on March 7th in Dharamshala. But if the Men in Blue lose or draw the fifth test against the Three Lions, then a door will be opened for New Zealand and Australia to overtake the Rohit Sharma-led team as the table toppers in the overall standings of the WTC 2023?25 cycle.</p>



<p>New Zealand and Australia will lock horns against each other in the second and final test match of the two-match test series on March 8 in Christchurch.</p>

<p>Australia, under the leadership of Pat Cummins have become the number one Test playing nation in the world after ICC updated the Test team rankings on Friday.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The Aussies magnificent 209 runs win against India in the World Test Championship 2023 Final at The Oval has helped them overtake the Men in Blue in the test team rankings.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Indian Cricket Team (120 points) are currently sitting at the second position in the rankings and have four less rating points than the Kangaroos. Australia's Ashes rivals England (105 points) are at the third position in the Test Rankings.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth spots are occupied by South Africa (103 points), New Zealand (96 points), Pakistan (89 points), Sri Lanka (83 points), West Indies (82 points) and Bangladesh (53 points) respectively.&nbsp;</p>



<p>?The Test rankings have been updated by taking the performances of the test playing nations after May 2021 into consideration. India's historic 2-1 series win against Australia in the 2021 Border Gavaskar Trophy which ended in January 2021 has not been considered as it has dropped out of the period of the rankings,? the International Cricket Council said in a press release.&nbsp;</p>



<p>?All the results in the period between May 2021 and May 2023 have been weighed at 50% and the matches in the next 12 months which includes Australia's WTC 2023 final win have been weighed at 100%.?</p>



<p>Talking about the ODI rankings, no changes have been made as India have increased their lead at of the top of the rankings by six rating points while Australia are at the second position with 116 rating points.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Third ranked South Africa (112 points) have reduced the gap to the second position of Australia by four rating points, while India's arch rivals Pakistan (106 points) and New Zealand (101 points) are also present in the top five.&nbsp;</p>



<p>The sixth rank in the ODI rankings is occupied by England (95 points) followed by Sri Lanka (93 points), Bangladesh (86 points), Afghanistan (80 points) and West Indies (69 points) in the seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth positions.?</p>

<p><strong>World Test Championship Points Table 2023-25:</strong> England clean sweep West Indies in a three-match test series with a win in the final test match by 10 wickets. <p>Dominant England are back on business with their special brand of test cricket and the restart went quite smoothly and eye-catching. Aggressive shows by batters and attacking bowling tactics have been key for England in the past couple of years if we exclude the Ashes and India series. </p>



<p>West Indies showed great fights in the first two tests but defeating England in England is not a cakewalk. The third test was supposed to be even as the Edgebaston was supposed to favor West Indies bowlers as well, but England were really invincible. </p>



<p>Winning the toss, West Indies opted to bat first. Skipper Brathwaite played a heroic innings at the top against a swinging ball. The opening of the West Indies innings was pretty solid and then the English bowlers came back to the game with three wickets under 22 runs. </p>

<p>Jason Holder and Joshua da Silva played saviors for the West Indies and following their contribution down the order, WI posted 282 in the first innings. Gus Atkinson shone again for England and took another four-wicket haul. </p>



<p>England lost 3 wickets till the Stumps on Day 1 at just 31 runs and looked on the back foot. They also lost Pope and Brook early the next morning. It was Stokes and Root's partnership that took the momentum back to England's camp. The rookie Wicketkeeper batter Jimmie Smith and Woakes also contributed with big half-centuries.</p>



<p>England took the lead of 92 runs in the first innings. West Indies gave it up their all to overturn the lead but it took a lot of wickets from them and they could give only an 82-run target to England. </p>

<p>West Indies vs South Africa 2nd Test match was played at Providence Stadium in Guyana where the home team Proteas defeated the visiting team West Indies by 40 runs and won the series. <p>Sri Lanka were not allowed to make a comeback against the fiery English bowling attack but later assault by skipper Dhananjaya De Silva and <a href="https://www.cricbuzz.com/profiles/39678/milan-rathnayake">Milan Rathnayake</a> added individual 70+ runs and Sri Lanka ended their first innings at 260 runs. </p>



<p>England also lost wickets in regular intervals, nevertheless, the overtook Sri Lanka by 57th over. The maiden century by wicketkeeper batter James Smith was the dominating factor for England in the first innings. <p>England needed to chase 205 runs in the fourth innings and they got a fluent start to ease things off. Joe Root led the England's innings with his not-out 62 and with the loss of five wickets, England took just 57 overs to chase down the target and sealed the match.</p>

<p>Joe Root, the only member of cricket's esteemed "Fab Four" still in regular action, continued to showcase his consistent form with a well-crafted century. Following Root's lead, Gus Atkinson, who recently made headlines with his impressive bowling performances, took advantage of Sri Lanka's lackluster bowling attack to score a century of his own, boasting a strike rate of over 100. These two standout performances helped propel England to a formidable total of 427 runs in their first innings.</p>



<p>In response, Sri Lanka struggled against England's disciplined bowling attack, with only Kamindu Mendis providing some resistance with a valuable 74-run contribution. The rest of the Sri Lankan batting lineup failed to cross the 25-run mark, and they were bowled out for 196, giving England a substantial first-innings lead of 231 runs.</p>



<p>Building on their strong position, England added a further 250 runs to their lead, driven once again by a century from Joe Root, who dominated the Sri Lankan bowlers for a second time. Faced with a daunting target, Sri Lanka needed several substantial innings to stay in the game.</p>

<p>Despite several batsmen getting off to promising starts, none could convert their innings into significant scores. Gus Atkinson, who had shined with the bat in the first innings, proved equally effective with the ball, taking a five-wicket haul to dismiss Sri Lanka for 292. <p>The 5th &amp; Final Test-Match in Sydney between Fierce-Rivals Australia and India ended today and the home team secured an easy six-wicket win and this win allowed them to secure the series by 3-1.This win of the Aussies has also made some significant changes in the overall standings of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. </p>
<p>Talking about the contest, the Jasprit Bumrah-led team were at 124-4 in their 2nd inning and they were looking set to set a big target for the Pat Cummins-led team. However, the Australian bowlers were in deadly mood as their perfect bowling display led to Team India suffering a batting collapse and they lost wickets in quick succession and eventually got bundled out for a mere score of 157 runs. </p>
<p>Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant fought the lone warrior's battle as he played an impressive inning of 61 runs in just 33 deliveries but he didn't get any kind of support from his fellow batters at the other end and the Kangaroos took full advantage of this and eventually the game turned in the favour of the Defending Champions. </p>
<p>For the Australian team, Scott Boland took 6 wickets while giving away 45 runs while skipper Pat Cummins also played a good hand with figures of 3-44 next to his name. </p>
<p>The Aussies were given a target of 162 runs to win the Sydney Test-Match but they lost wickets unnecessarily as Sam Konstas (22 runs in 17 deliveries), Marnus Labuschagne (6 runs in 20 deliveries), and Steve Smith (4 runs in 9 balls) went back to the pavilion cheaply, leaving the Australian team suddenly in a dire position of 58/3.</p>
<p>Next, opening batter Usman Khawaja played a good knock of 41 runs in 45 deliveries which allowed his team to initiate a comeback in the contest. If Bumrah wouldn't have got injured, then Khawaja wouldn't even get the chance to go past the 10 runs mark. </p>
<p>Without the availability of Bumrah, the Aussie batters started to play their shots freely and theu began creating a lot of pressure on the Indian bowling unit. While Prasidh Krishna did his best to help his team stay alive in the contest, he began to falter and this worked in the favour of the Australians. </p>
<p>As a result, the duo of Beau Webster &amp; Travis Head got involved in a strong partnership for thethe fifth wicket and added 58 runs in just 53 balls and this turned out to be winning factor. They helped their team reach a score of 162-4 and the Kangaroos won the encounter by a margin of six wickets.</p>

<p>Pat Cummins-led Aussies have successfully qualified for the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) Final after securing the BGT series 3-1. Temba Bavuma-led South Africa have already secured their tickets for the Final after defeating Pakistan in the first Test-Match. </p>

<h2>IND vs AUS: Virat Kohli mocks Australian crowd with "Sandpapar" gesture on Day 3</h2>
<p>The Australian crowd has a history of involvement with visiting teams time and time again, and this BGT 2024-25 was not new. There were many instances during the series when they targeted Indian players. Especially when it comes to Virat Kohli, the Australian crowd often welcomes him or reacts to his actions with boos. But Virat has always been the approach of giving it back.</p>
<p>Something similar happened on Sunday as well. Notably, Virat was the stand-in captain in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Responding to Australian crowds, Virat gestures with his "empty pocket." This incident happened just when Steve Smith got out on Day 3. Smith was part of the infamous "Sandpapergate" incident during a Cape Town test against South Africa in 2018.</p>
<p>Australia used sandpaper in order to tamper with the cricket ball to get more reverse swing from the ball. Unfortunately for them, it was caught on camera, and players involved in it, Smith, along with David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, faced bans. As a result, Virat was seen doing the "sandpapar" gesture after Smith's wickets to provoke the Australian fans.</p>
<p>As soon as it happened, the video of the incident went viral, and everyone was talking about it on social media. Speaking of the game, India started Day 3 at 142/6 and were bowled out for 157 runs, setting a target of 161 to win. Australia reached the target with six wickets in hand and registered the 3-1 series win. It was their first BGT win since 2014-15. With this, they also qualified for the final of the World Test Championship 2023-25.</p>

<p>The Australian Cricket Team, under the leadership of Pat Cummins successfully defeated Team India in the Sydney Test-Match by a margin of six wickets and this wicket helped them to seal the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy series by 3-1.</p>
<p>While the Aussie players are going to be really happy with this series win, the Indians on the other hand, are facing a lot of criticism following the series defeat especially the Indian batters. Senior players like Virat Kohli are the main targets of the critics. </p>

Every batsman out there has a weakness and if I talk about myself, then the deliveries which used to come towards the pads in a straight line used to trouble me a lot. But I learnt from it and scored a lot of runs in the remainder of my career. </strong></p>

<h2><strong>What's the solution to the problem of Virat Kohli? </strong></h2>
<p>AB de Villiers believes that old balls keep running in the mind of the 36-year-old, which automatically affects the next forthcoming delivery. What happened before on the previous ball doesn't matter... He (Virat) should play every ball like a new and fresh one, he should just forget thinking about the previous deliveries. If finds success in doing this properly, then he can play the outside off-stump deliveries in a much better way.</p>
