India vs West Indies: The ODI series between India and West Indies included all sorts of cricketing action which cricket fans majorly expect to witness. We got to see nail-biting finishes, close encounters and excellent bowling and batting performances from both sides.
Though the series seemed to be an evenly poised one at the beginning, it ended in India’s favour which whitewashed a clueless West Indies side 3-0. India’s victory over the Windies even though several important players were missing from the line up proves the fact as to how much progress the team’s benched players have made in recent times so as to prove their worth on the big stages whenever they are given an opportunity to do so.
Given below are three talking points on India’s famous win over West Indies in the ODI series.
1. Shubman Gill is India’s future gem
Shubman Gill who was asked to open the batting with skipper Shikhar Dhawan in the absence of Rohit Sharma grabbed hold of this opportunity with both his hands. The 22-year-old smashed a total of 208 runs, the most by any batsman in the three-match India vs West Indies ODI series including two half-centuries.
Gill was also awarded the man of the series award for his consistent performances throughout the series. The right-handed showed great approach and form with the bat as he provided India with lightning-fast starts in each of three matches.
His wonderful batting style besides his incredible attacking approach left the opposition in total disarray as he paved the path for India to win the series.
2. Shikhar Dhawan is far from finished
Shikhar Dhawan who has been appointed as India’s captain for the India vs West Indies ODI series didn’t hesitate to prove his worth in the 50-over format. With him being dropped from the Tests and T20i teams, it seemed as if the left-handed would also lose his spot from the side in the One Dayers.
On the contrary, the 36-year-old proved his critics wrong by smashing a total of 168 runs in the three-match ODI series and confirmed the fact that he is indispensable in the ODIs despite getting older with time. His opening partnership with Rohit Sharma will definitely be a treat to watch in the ODI World Cup next year.
3. Axar Patel is just too good to be benched
One of the biggest positives of the series for the India vs West Indies series will be the rise of Azar Patel. The left-hander delivered quality round skills and helped India clinch an incredible victory in the second ODI during a steep run chase.
The left-handed showed his heroics with the bat as he helped a collapsing Indian innings stabilize itself and reach a massive total of 312 in style. Axar scored his career-best score of 64 as India cruised to a famous win by 2 Wickets with just 2 balls to spare.
