The TATA IPL 2022 has come to an end. The Gujarat Titans, the team that wasn’t given a chance by any of the cricket pundits or cricket analysts including me got their hands on the trophy. The team truly deserved this victory. It was a cumulative team performance by them. Hardik Pandya led from the front after bowling an elite spell, the best of his career. But who were the other winners on the night of the final? Who was the emerging player? Who was the break-through performer? Here’s a quick look:
Gujarat Titans are Winners of TATA IPL 2022:
The Gujarat Titans were never given a chance by an of the cricket pundits. The team of the Titans looked a bit poorer and less lucrative than others. But the players have stepped up and performed. The Titans might not have their players with the orange caps or purple caps but as a whole, they have performed exceptionally well. Credit to Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten to manage the team well.
They found a new superhero in every game. In their first game against LSG, Mohammad Shami was the hero. In the crucial game against CSK, David Miller showed why he is called “Killer Miller”. The match against the Punjab Kings saw Rahul Tewatia show why the Titans believe in his abilities. Rashid Khan as usual dominated the IPL for one more season. Wriddhiman Saha and Matthew Wade, both played crucial knocks. Shubman Gill was in his color for 3 to 4 games. All in all, it was an amazing performance by the Titans. Because of their team performance, they are now able to call themselves the “Champions”.
Jos Butler won the Orange Cap in TATA IPL 2022:
Jos Butler now holds the record for the second-most runs in an IPL season. He has equaled Virat Kohli’s record of the most IPL centuries in one season. He also slammed 4 hundred this season. Jos was different gravy while batting. Jos was the batter that held the Rajasthan team together and most of the games were single-handedly won by him. He was hitting the bowlers at will once he set his eyes in. His hundreds were as follows:
- 100 from 68 balls against the Mumbai Indians
- 103 off 61 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders
- 116 off 65 balls against the Delhi Capitals
- 106 off 60 balls against the Royal Challengers Bangalore
Butler also won the other sponsor awards. He won the Rupay Most fours of the season, striking 83 fours this season. Jos also won the award for the Cred Powerplayer of the season for dominating the powerplays throughout the season. Butler ended as the “Most Valuable Player of the Season.” Jos also grabbed the Dream11 Game Changer Award for accumulating the most points as a player in fantasy sports. His final award for the night was the “Let’s Crack It” maximum sixes award. Jos hammered 45 sixes this season. This happened to be a season of the TATA IPL that was owned and ruled by “Jos the Boss”.
Yuzvendra Chahal won the Purple Cap in TATA IPL 2022:
Yuzi Chahal happens to have won the Purple Cap by taking 27 wickets. Wanindu Hasaranga was second on the list with 26 wickets. But there was no other bowler that deserved it more than Yuzi Chahal. He is very keen on making a comeback to the national side and making it to the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Yuzi was not only economical but also picked wickets. The teams did try to play him out by not risking the big shots on him but this spin wizard eventually picked wickets. His 5-wicket haul was an elite one. Yuzi was on a hat-trick two times this season. He got one hat-trick and on the other instance, Karun Nair dropped the catch at slip.
Fair Play Award was won by Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals:
The Paytm Fair Play Award was shared by the Winner Gujarat Titans and the runners-up, the Rajasthan Royals. This award has previously been won by CSK the greatest number of times. The award is given based on behavior by players on the field.
Umran Malik is Emerging Player of the Season:
“Pace Sensation” or “Jammu Express” has won the emerging player of the season award. This boy from Jammu has come a long way after being only a net bowler for the Sunrisers. The Sunrisers made a steal when they retained him at 4 Crores as an uncapped player. His market value is much higher than that. Umran has clocked over 150 clicks consistently. His performance was so good that he has been drafted to the national team. Malik was the most deserving candidate for this award. The other contenders were N Tilak Varma and Mohsin Khan. But this man and his aggressive pace bowling ruled everyone out. He won the “Swiggy Fastest Delivery of the Match” award 14 times in a row!
Ewin Lewis’s Catch was the best Catch of the TATA IPL 2022:
Ewin Lewis’s one-handed grab against the Kolkata Knight Riders ended up being the best catch of the season. It was the moment of the game that added more value to the catch. Rinku Singh and Sunil Narine were blasting the LSG bowlers for fun after De Kock smashed 140 in the first innings. While chasing 200+, KKR required 3 runs of the last two balls. Ewin made the catch and flipped the game in the favor of LSG. It was the crucial wicket for Rinku. Ewin dived to his left-hand side and made a splendid one-handed catch.
Dinesh Karthik was awarded the “TATA Punch Super Striker of the Tournament”. Karthik finished the season with a strike rate of 183.33 and hence he was awarded the trophy.
