The TATA IPL 2023 Auction will take place tomorrow in Kochi. The tournament will get underway in March, but the pieces for making it a great success will be put in place now. It is the TATA IPL 2023 auction table that the teams will be looking to seal the deal on. The Kolkata Knight Riders, the Mumbai Indians, the Punjab Kings, and the Sunrisers Hyderabad have a lot of shopping and thinking to do. But KKR doesn’t have the money required. Here is a look at what each team requires and what they will be going after:
Mumbai Indians will look for a spinner in TATA IPL 2023 Auction:
The Mumbai Indians will effectively look for a spinner and an all-rounder. They will look for someone who can replace Rahul Chahar. They have Kumar Kartikeya in the squad but he has limited experience on a grand stage. So, maybe a Zampa or Rashid or Shamsi can be a good choice.
Chennai Super Kings will look for a death bowler in TATA IPL 2023 Auction:
The Chennai Super Kings will be looking for someone to replace Dwayne Bravo. Dwayne has left an unmatched legacy behind. It is very difficult to repeat the performances that he has done. The available options include Chris Jordan or Reece Topley. They also need someone who can replace Dhoni in the next season as the management doesn’t seem to back Ravindra Jadeja. In that case, Ben Stokes can also be a choice.
Rajasthan Royals will look for an all-rounder in TATA IPL 2023 Auction:
Rajasthan Royals are looking for an all-rounder. They let go of James Neesham and Daryl Mitchell. The available all-rounder options are Jason Holder, Shakib Al Hasan, and Cameron Green. They won’t go for Sam Curran or Stokes as they are high in demand. Apart from this, they have all their basis covered.
Royal Challengers Bangalore will look for a finisher/all-rounder in TATA IPL 2023 Auction:
The big problem faced by the Royal Challengers Bangalore is the slow run rate in the death overs. They genuinely need an explosive finisher. They cannot go ahead with Shahbaz Ahmed and DK as Ahmed takes his time and DK is aging. Odean Smith or Romario Shepherd can be a good choice.
Gujarat Titans will look for an opener:
Gujarat Titans need an opener. They have Shubman Gill but along with him, they need another reliable batter in the top order. They tried Vijay Shankar and Saha and even Sai Sudarshan but it didn’t work. They can go behind Rilee Rossouw and Nicholas Pooran too in the TATA IPL 2023 Auction. Also, they cannot rely on Wade to open because he is injury prone.
Lucknow Super Giants will look for a top-order batter:
Lucknow Super Giants need a top-order batter. They have let go of Ewin Lewis and Manish Pandey too. If Deepak Hooda is their finisher and Ayush Badoni is expected to bat up the order, they need a back seriously. The available options are Manish Pandey again, Karun Nair, Rilee Rossouw, or even Heinrich Klaassen. They need an all-rounder too. Someone who can replace Jason Holder.
Sunrisers Hyderabad will look for a Captain in TATA IPL 2023 Auction:
With 42.2+ crores, the SRH management has a lot to shop for. But their priority purchase is a captaincy prospect. Ben Stokes is their “go-to” man. If not Stokes, they have to go for Agarwal. The other players with slim chances are Ajinkya Rahane or Jason Holder and Joe Root. Maybe Kane Williamson can help them out. They also need an opener in the TATA IPL 2023 Auction.
Kolkata Knight Riders will look for an opener:
Kolkata Knight Riders are also going for an opener. Agarwal could be their pick but they do not have the money for him. The smart choice would be to look for a domestic opener and give him a chance as they did with Venky. Or maybe Shreyas can open the batting.
Delhi Capitals will look for a finisher:
The Delhi Capitals are looking for a finisher. They are struggling to find one after Shimron Hetmyer departed from the team. Axar Patel can be their finisher but he doesn’t have the strokes required. Odean Smith can be on their radar. Another option could be to give Rovamnn Powell the finishing role and look for a good top-order batter.
Punjab Kings will look for an opener:
The Punjab Kings will also have to shop a lot. A replacement for Mayank Agarwal is the need of the hour. Someone like Kane Williamson fits the bill. They need all-rounders. Rishi Dhawan was essential to them but they have let him go. They can look for someone like a Sam Curran as they have a huge wallet. Else they can go for Cam Green.
