The TATA IPL is glad to witness some of the finest cricketing talents in the world. Over the years we have seen many lesser-known names rise to fame. We also have seen many over-hyped players failing as the TATA IPL is the world’s toughest T20 league. With that being said, there are many overseas players who have graced this tournament. In fact, when we talk about the IPL becoming a brand, it is these players who made it an international brand. Here is an in-depth look:
** Players are considered on basis of the impact that they have had on the league and not just consistent performances**
Dwayne Bravo Played for the Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in TATA IPL:
Dwayne Bravo is the highest wicket-taker in the history of the league. He has bagged 183 wickets while playing from the very first season till 2022. He was the face of the Chennai Super Kings when the team was at its peak. He also holds the joint record for the most wickets in a TATA IPL season. In this record season, he picked 32 wickets. He was an integral part of the success of the Chennai Super Kings and helped them win 3 titles. Bravo is a legend in the IPL and T20 cricket in general. He was an elite death bowler.
Chris Gayle Played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Kolkata Knight Riders in TATA IPL:
Christopher Henry Gayle was in a league of his own in his prime. He managed to score 6 hundred in the IPL. His 2011 and 2012 seasons were a dream come true for any player. He bagged the orange cap twice. It is very unfortunate that a player of that stature, couldn’t win a trophy but his impact was immense. Gayle holds the record for the most hundreds and the highest individual score in an IPL inning. One can never forget him scoring a whirlwind-like 175 runs at Chinnaswamy against the Pune Warriors India. He is a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore Hall of fame.
David Warner:
David Warner is the unannounced prince of Hyderabad. The people of Hyderabad love Warner Anna! He made sure that the “Orange Army” gets its hands on the first-ever IPL trophy. Warner has the record for winning the most IPL orange cap awards for the most runs scored in an IPL season. He was elite in the 2016 IPL season, the one in which the Sunrisers were champions, but his efforts were overshadowed by Virat Kohli’s master class. That season saw Warner get 800+ runs. Warner was a run-machine at the Hyderabad camp but in the IPL 2022 season, they parted ways. Here is a look at the stats of this legend:
Matches | 162 |
Runs | 5881 |
Strike Rate | 140.7 |
Average | 42.2 |
100s/50s | 4/55 |
Highest | 126 |
AB De Villiers:
AB De Villers is a star in India. Once in 2014, he walked out to bat against India in Wankhede and the crowd started cheering “AB, AB, AB, AB”! Now that is the charisma that AB had. He even made the opposition fall in love with his skill. RCB used his skills to the fullest. He was earlier at the Delhi camp but they couldn’t use his talent effectively. It was at RCB that he became a household name. He kept wickets, played the finisher’s role, and also played at number 4. His skillsets were used completely here. Here is a look at his IPL numbers:
Matches | 184 |
Runs | 5162 |
Strike Rate | 151.7 |
Average | 39.8 |
100s/50s | 2/40 |
Highest | 133* |
Honorable Mentions:
- Rashid Khan
- Andre Russell
- Lasith Malinga
Kieron Pollard Played for the Mumbai Indians in TATA IPL:
Kieron Pollard deserves credit for two of the 5 titles that the Mumbai Indians have won. It was because of his performances in the final that the Mumbai Indians managed to put up decent totals in the 2013, and 2019 finals. Polly is a maestro when it comes to finishing games. He takes the game away single-handedly. His knock against Chennai Super Kings in 2021 at Delhi and against the Punjab Kings in 2019 is knocking for the ages. Pollard is still an integral part of the “One MI Family” and is associated with MI as a batting coach.
