The “Impact Player” rule has made the TATA IPL 2023 very interesting. The rule has added to the spice of the already amazing tournament. With that being said, each team will be waiting to make effective use of this rule. Most of the team analysts are looking at this rule as a “playing 12” concept. This means that they will be selecting 12 players instead of 11 and at the required time, the 12th player will be introduced in the game.
To predict the “impact player” for all these teams is not an easy task. The teams will not have a well-defined “impact player” but they will make the player’s use depending upon the situation. But we can certainly try to predict the “impact player” for the most common situations.
Depending on whether the team is batting first or bowling first, the player can change. While chasing a big score, the team can bring on an additional batter. If one bowler goes for runs, the team can bring in another bowler who is in good shape.

Piyush Chawla can Be the Impact Player for Mumbai Indians in TATA IPL 2023:
Piyush Chawla is past his prime and is not in the best of fitness. The best way to utilize such an asset is to make him a “horses for courses” commodity in the TATA IPL 2023. On pitches where the ball turns, we can introduce Piyush Chawla in the game. His job is to bowl 4 tight overs in the middle and his job will be done. He is a decent batter but another pure batter can easily replace him in the 11 for the TATA IPL 2023. Assume a case where Mumbai has to bowl first in Chennai, the XI, in that case, might not have Tilak Varma and will have Piyush Chawla, but as soon as Piyush is done with his spell, Varma can be bought on the field.
Maheesh Teekshana/Ambati Rayudu can be the Impact Player for the Chennai Super Kings in TATA IPL 2023:
Maheesh Teekshana has limited to no contribution with the bat. He is a pure bowler. So, if Chennai is to chase a huge target, they can easily replace him with a batter. Chennai does not have an extra foreign batter, so it has to be someone who is Indian. The same is the case with Rayudu. Rayudu is aging and is not the quickest on the field. So, once he is done with his batting, the Super Kings can replace him with someone like Rajvardhan Hangargekar or Prashant Solanki in TATA IPL 2023. Both these guys give the Super Kings an additional bowling option.
Rajat Patidar/Finn Allen can be the Impact Player for RCB in TATA IPL 2023:
Rajat Patidar, the pure batter from Madhya Pradesh will be a very handy player for RCB. While chasing big totals, Rajat can be bought in place of Mohammed Siraj. Finn Allen can also be used in the same scenario. Assume a case where RCB must bowl first and they concede 200+ runs. This situation is most certainly going to arise as they play most of their matches at the Chinnaswami Stadium. So, while chasing they can bring in Allen in place of Josh Hazlewood or Patidar in place of Mohammed Siraj in TATA IPL 2023.
Amit Mishra can be the Impact Player for the Lucknow Super Giants:
Amit Mishra is not the fittest or quickest player on the pitch. If the Lucknow Super Giants want, they can give Mishy bhai the much-deserved rest. If the LSG team bowls first and one of their spinners goes for runs, they can bring on Amit Mishra. Or maybe they can start with Amit Mishra and once he is done with his 4 overs, he can be sent off- the field and they can field an extra batter. They will have to play an Indian batter in that case, and it can be any one of Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, or Ayush Badoni in TATA IPL 2023.
Matthew Wade/Wriddhiman Saha can be the Impact Player for the Gujarat Titans in TATA IPL 2023:
Matthew Wade or Wriddhiman Saha can be the impact player for the Gujarat Titans. Matthew Wade has a more realistic chance as he is the finisher. So, if the Titans are chasing, they can field an extra bowler in the first innings and ask Saha to keep wickets. And while chasing, they can drop the bowler. The best way to do it would be to take out the foreign fast bowler. Alzarri Joseph in this case. So, wade can come in place of Alzarri and bat as low as number 8. He has been the top finisher for Australia in the past year. He will also do the same job for the Titans.
Rinku Singh/Andre Russell can be the Impact Player for the Kolkata Knight Riders in TATA IPL 2023:
Rinku Singh or Andre Russell can be the impact player. Andre is a possibility if the Kolkata Knight Riders do not want to burden him with extra bowling or fielding. He is an injury-prone player and to have him fit for the qualifiers or the “playoffs” will be key. Rinku Singh on the other hand is a pure batter so he can be bought on in case there is a batting collapse. So, if the Kolkata Knight Riders are struggling at 30/3 in any game and need an extra batter, they can add Rinku into the line-up. Rinku has previously played for them at number 7 and number 6 and has done decently well.
Navdeep Saini/Adam Zampa can be the Impact Player for the Rajasthan Royals:
Navdeep Saini is also a good choice when it comes to playing as an “Impact Player”. The Rajasthan Royals can use him as a backup bowler. If Kuldeep Sen is having a bad day or if Trent Boult is having a bad day, they can call Navdeep Saini. On the other hand, if Yuzi Chahal is getting taken for runs or on pitches that grip and turn, they can play Adam Zampa as an additional spinner. For matches in Chenna and at the SMS Stadium in Jaipur, they can easily play an additional spinner in the first innings.
Rovmann Powell/Chetan Sakariya can be the Impact Player for the Delhi Capitals:
Rovmann Powell is the firepower that the Delhi Capitals may require in high-scoring games. He can easily be used as a super substitute when the Capitals want to score big or are chasing a big total. In the second innings, he can replace Anrich Nortje or any of the other foreign pacers. Chetan Sakariya on the other hand can come in if one of the Indian bowlers is having a bad day. If Khaleel is going for runs and we want Chetan to bowl at the death, this can be done too. If the team makes a low score in the first innings and needs an additional bowler to defend, they can try Chetan in place of someone like Manish Pandey who is a pure batter.
Bhanuka Rajapaksha/Shahrukh Khan can be the Impact Player for the Punjab Kings:
Bhanuka Rajapaksha is a very good option to be used as an “Impact Player”. His game style itself is the one that supports the style of an “Impact Player”. Last year he ensured that the Punjab Kings score at 9.1 runs per over in the powerplay. So, the Punjab Kings can replace any of the fast bowlers to play Bhanuka in the batting unit. In case we want a finisher or an additional batter, the Punjab Kings can replace any of the Indian pacers or spinners to get Shahrukh Khan in.
Heinrich Klaassen can be the Impact Player for the Sunrisers Hyderabad:
Neinrich Klaassen can be the Impact Player for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. While chasing big scores or when the team collapses in the first innings they can play Heinrich Klaaseen as an additional batter. He has a very good attack against spin and hence he can be used on pitches that offer turn to the bowler. So, on wickets such as Chennai and Jaipur, he can be given an opportunity. One can never forget how Klaassen has dealt with the spin combination of Yuzi and Kuldeep in all of the recently concluded India VS South Africa series.
