The TATA IPL 2023 is on the way. With that being said, we will be witnessing several amazing games that will go down to the wire. There will be many last-ball finishes, and the games will get as close as possible. Over the years, the TATA IPL has given us many such matches and they have also given us many such moments to cherish. We have seen MS Dhoni lose his composure, we have seen Rahul Tewatia hit the last two balls for two sixes, and we have also seen Amit Mishra take 3 hat-tricks. So, which are the 3 most historic games in TATA IPL history? Here is a look:
Rajasthan Royals VS Kolkata Knight Riders 19th Match TATA IPL 2014:
Ajinkya Rahane scored an elite 72 of 59 balls in the first innings to take the Rajasthan team to a formidable score of 152 in the first innings. He had given his bowlers a fighting chance to stay in the game. Shane Watson also scored a handy 33 runs. It was a team effort by KKR, and they managed to score 152 runs too. Shakib Al Hasan chipped in with 29 runs, Suryakumar scored 31 and Gambhir notched up 40.
The game ended in a tie and was pushed into the super over stage. In the super over the stage as well, the game was a tie. But it was the presence of Steve Smith and Shane Watson that took Rajasthan home. They required 3 runs off the last ball and Smith placed it very fine; it was so precise that they scampered through for 2 runs and RR won on boundary count. This game was a nail-biter!
Rajasthan Royals VS Mumbai Indians TATA IPL 2014 Last League Stage Match:
Rajasthan Royals took on the Mumbai Indians in the last league game of 2014 and it is the best match in IPL history ever. The game was pure drama. The winner of this game would decide the qualification scenario for the playoffs. Rajasthan just needed a win and Mumbai needed a win with a decent margin. Rajasthan walked out to bat first and with the help of the fifties from Samson and Nair, they managed to get 189 runs on the board.
The Mumbai Indians had to chase this score in 14.3 overs to win the game as well as qualify. Corey Anderson walked into bat and played the innings of a lifetime. He was smoking the RR bowlers. Every batter that walked in, was just trying to clear the fence. Rohit, Pollard, and Michael Hussey too. All of them did their small roles and hit a few out of the park. But Anderson stood strong, he scored 95 runs of 44 balls only.
Ambati Rayudu on the other hand scored 30 runs from 10 balls! This inning got Mumbai to 189 runs in 14.3 overs but to qualify, they had to get a boundary on the 4th ball of the 14th over. Aditya Tar walked out to bat and nonchalantly hit James Faulkner for a six over the sweeper. Mumbai won and Tare did a shirtless celebration too!
