Tata IPL 2024: While the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections have posed a challenge in front of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the cricket board is planning to safely navigate through it and host the seventeenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in India. The Tata IPL 2024 is likely to proceed on its normal window, despite the challenges presented by the upcoming general elections.
As per the reports, the Tata IPL 2024 is set to begin on March 22 with no delays. The scheduling for the IPL 2024 will also be made flexible to accommodate any changes or tweaks at the eleventh hour.
Jagran News reported that the BCCI secretary Jay Shah is working in tandem with Home Minister Amit Shah to work out the plan to simultaneously host the Tata IPL 2024.
The BCCI has, reportedly, already come to terms with the concerned ministries related to the logistics part. Security forces will be deployed to ensure democratic values.
Notably, this isn’t the first time BCCI has faced challenges in the scheduling of the IPL due to the general elections. Back in 2009, the BCCI was caught with a similar problem and the tournament was shifted to South Africa. A similar situation was again created in 2014 and the BCCI temporarily moved the IPL event out of India (to UAE) for 20 matches.
However, since 2019, the IPL has remained inside the borders of India and the Indian Cricket Board wants to continue with the same approach this time as well.
IPL 2024 Auction
To mark that the Indian T20 league is just a few months away, the BCCI hosted IPL 2024 Auctions on December 19 in Dubai. The event turned out to be historical as it shattered many previous records.
Australian pace duo Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins got the costliest bids ever recorded in IPL history. While Starc pacer was sealed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by shelling out a whopping sum of INR 24.75 Crores, the Australian captain managed to fetch INR 20.5 Crores from SRH for the IPL 2024.
The auction was not only rewarding for the overseas players as it also saw some of the domestic talent bag lucrative deals. Among the top-grosser domestic talents, Sameer Rizvi went to CSK for INR 8.4 crores and Shahrukh Khan was sealed by Gujarat Titans for INR 7.40 Crores.
