TATA IPL Points Table 2025 Updated On 5th May; Punjab Are Growing Strong Their Playoff Chances!
TATA IPL Points Table 2025: Super Sunday lived up to its billing in the TATA IPL 2025 as fans witnessed two pulsating encounters that added fresh intrigue to the playoff race. The day kicked off with a high-octane thriller in Kolkata, where KKR edged past Rajasthan Royals by a single run, while the evening clash in Dharamshala saw Punjab Kings assert dominance over Lucknow Super Giants with a commanding 37-run victory. These results not only provided edge-of-the-seat action but also brought a significant shake-up in the points table.
In the first match of the day, the Eden Gardens crowd was treated to a rollercoaster ride as Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals produced one of the closest finishes of the season. Batting first, KKR posted 206, riding on a breathtaking 55 off just 16 balls from Andre Russell, aided by late fireworks from Rinku Singh.
RR, despite early setbacks, almost pulled off an epic chase thanks to a valiant knock from Riyan Parag and a late surge from Dubey. However, a sharp final over from Vaibhav and a crucial last-ball throw from Rinku ensured a 1-run win for KKR, keeping their playoff hopes flickering and sending Rajasthan crashing out of contention.
The second clash at the picturesque HPCA Stadium saw Punjab Kings putting on a show of power and precision. After losing an early wicket, PBKS turned on the heat with Josh Inglis igniting the innings and Prabhsimran Singh punishing LSG for a costly dropped chance. A flurry of runs from Shreyas, Shashank, Wadhera, and even Stoinis pushed Punjab to a daunting 236.
In response, Arshdeep Singh ripped through LSG’s top order with a fiery opening spell. Despite a gritty partnership between Badoni and Abdul Samad, the target proved far too steep. PBKS sealed a dominant 37-run victory, boosting both their points tally and net run rate.
With these results, the points table has seen a notable shift. Punjab Kings have surged to the second spot with 15 points from 11 matches, strengthening their position in the race to the playoffs. Kolkata Knight Riders’ narrow win pushed them to 11 points and sixth place, still in the hunt with a couple of games left.
Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, however, have now been officially eliminated from playoff contention. Meanwhile, Lucknow’s defeat has dented their chances, pushing them down to seventh with just 10 points.
