RR vs PBKS, Match no- 59: In Match 59 of the TATA IPL 2025, Punjab Kings faced off against Rajasthan Royals at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. After a gripping battle between bat and ball, Punjab Kings emerged victorious, successfully defending their total and sealing a crucial win in the tournament.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Punjab Kings found themselves in early trouble at 34/3 inside four overs, with Tushar Deshpande striking twice and Mitchell Owen falling for a duck. 

However, Nehal Wadhera and Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings with a vital partnership before Iyer fell for 30. Wadhera continued to anchor the innings brilliantly, scoring a career-best 70 off 37 balls, and was well supported by Shashank Singh, who finished unbeaten on 59. 

Azmatullah’s late cameo and some wayward bowling from the Rajasthan Royals helped Punjab post an imposing total of 219/5, including 60 runs in the final four overs. 

If Rajasthan Royals had any hopes of chasing down 219, they needed a blazing start — and that’s exactly what Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal delivered. The duo went on the attack right from the first over, with Vaibhav smashing a quickfire 40 off just 14 balls before falling to Harpreet Brar. Thanks to their explosive start, RR ended the powerplay at an imposing 89/1, needing 131 from 84 balls. 

Jaiswal went on to complete a well-constructed half-century but was dismissed immediately after. The middle order — Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, and Shimron Hetmyer — failed to build on the platform, leaving Dhruv Jurel to shoulder the responsibility. Despite the pressure, Jurel kept RR’s hopes alive with a valiant effort, even as wickets tumbled around him.
