Team India donated INR 35,000 to Wankhede Stadium Groundsmen for preparing the sport pitch.

India vs New Zealand 2nd Test: In yet another generous gesture from team India, the players from the Indian team have donated a sum of INR 35,000 to the groundsmen of Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium for preparing the sporting pitch for the second test match between India and New Zealand.

The donation was made following India’s historic win at Wankhede Stadium against New Zealand in the second test match. India defeated New Zealand by a massive 372 runs on the fourth day, which is apparently India’s biggest win in test cricket by runs.

The hosts clinched the two matches test series by 1-0 and bagged crucial World Test Championship 2021-23 points.

Interestingly, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid donated an identical sum to Kanpur’s groundstaff after the completion of the first test match at Green Park. The small sum was a token of appreciation for the people working tirelessly to prepare a fair and good test pitch for the two teams.

Team India convincingly thrashed the opposition after putting a mammoth total of 540 runs on board in the second innings. New Zealand in the first innings were bowled out for mere 62 runs while in the second innings they totalled 167 runs.

India scored 325 runs in the first innings and 276 in the second. Mayank Agarwal was the top scorer for India in both innings with a healthy contribution of 150 and 62 runs in two respective innings.

With the win, team India also toppled New Zealand from the test rankings as India became the new number one team in the longest format, reclaiming its lost position. Virat Kohli and his men stand at an aggregate rating of 124 points while New Zealand is at 121 points.

With the completion of the New Zealand series, India will board a flight for the South Africa tour in the coming few days. The squad for the tour is yet to be announced.
