The Biggest Cricket Events Until the End of the Year

Cricket is one of the sports with the busiest calendar each year. It’s not like it’s too much to have major cricket events throughout the year. After all, cricket is the second most popular sport worldwide with over 2.5 billion fans.

Minor League Cricket

It’s finally happening! Cricket is making a comeback in the US and part of this is the second edition of the Minor League Cricket Championship. This tournament is established by the USA Cricket and they are aiming to make cricket popular again in the US.

The 2022 Minor League Cricket is set to start on June 25, 2022, and the final is scheduled for August 28, 2022. The tournament has a round-robin and knockout stage format and there will be 26 teams participating. This season is set to be hosted in 20 venues in the US.

The Hundred Series

Another big event coming up is the 2022 season of The Hundred. This will be the second season of the professional franchise of the 100-ball cricket tournament. This is managed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and a total of 8 women’s teams and 8 men’s teams are participating this year.

The tournament has a group stage and knockout format and is set to kick off on August 3, 2022. The final is scheduled for September 3, 2022, and in total, The Hundred Series will have 58 matches. The venues for this season are the following:

  • Old Trafford, Manchester
  • Headingley, Leeds
  • Edgbaston, Birmingham,
  • Trent Bridge, Nottingham
  • Sophia Gardens, Cardiff
  • Lord’s London
  • The Oval, London
  • Rose Bowl, Southampton

Asia Cup

The 15th edition of the Asia Cup is also happening this year. The last Asia Cup happened in 2018 and supposedly this season of the tournament was scheduled for September 2020. However, the tournament was postponed until July 2020 because of the pandemic.
