They thought the chosen players were better than me for T20 World Cup 2021, says Shikhar Dhawan: The men in blue endured a rough outing in the last T20 World Cup where they made an early group stage exit from the tournament. India conceded two consecutive defeats to Pakistan and New Zealand in its first two group stage games which predominantly decided India’s fate in the tournament.
The surprising factor for everyone was the selection of players. Indian selectors banked on several young talents over the experienced campaigners for the World Cup which certainly backfired them.
The likes of Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Shikhar Dhawan faced a snub from the squad while Rahul Chahar, R Ashwin, and Varun Chakravarthy were given the preference.
Senior Indian batter Shikhar Dhawan opened up on his disappointment after the World Cup snub.
“Yes, I am a very positive person. It was a dream come true for me leading the team last year. For the T20 World Cup, they thought the (chosen) players were better than me and fair enough,” Dhawan told PTI.
Dhawan further said that he focuses more on the controllable and not on things that are out of his reach.
“Whatever decision selectors make, I respect that. That happens in life. You accept it and keep doing your job. I only focus on what is in my control and try to make the most of the opportunities that I get,” he further said.
