Top 3 Players Mumbai Indians may release ahead of the IPL 2023: Five-time IPL champions, Mumbai Indians endured a dry run in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League. In fact, the Tata IPL 2022 was Mumbai’s worst season in the history of the elite Indian T20 tournament. Despite being one of the best sides in the tournament, Mumbai finished at the bottom of the points table.
MI only managed to win four matches in 14 outings of the Tata IPL 2022. Their disappointing run in the tournament created a mess of their campaign. To make it worse, Mumbai lost eight matches on the trot and bagged a record of most defeats faced consecutively at the start of the season.
Though it’s fair to blame Mumbai’s poor auction strategy for the season for their derailed performance, the senior players also couldn’t perform which also became a major reason for Mumbai’s downfall in the IPL 2022.
The likes of Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard and Jasprit Bumrah were not consistent with their performances throughout the season which also played a large role in Mumbai’s poor show in season fifteen.
Though Mumbai had suffered a horrible season, their future looks bright with several young promising players showcasing their talents. The likes of Dewald Bravis, Tilak Verma, Hrithik Shokeen, Tim David and Ramandeep Singh were impressive in the limited opportunities they received.
In the next season of the IPL, Mumbai will form a formidable squad, however, the franchise will look to get rid of a few players who haven’t performed well in the entire season. This article will take you through the top 3 players Mumbai Indians may release ahead of the IPL 2023.
Top 3 Players Mumbai Indians may release ahead of the IPL 2023:
Kieron Pollard:
The franchise in blue and gold might end their 12-years long association with premier Caribbean all-rounder Kieron Pollard in the next season of the Indian Premier League. The Indian T20 tournament seems all but over for the 35-years old cricketer as his muscular levers are no longer supporting him.
Mumbai gave Pollard an extended run in the IPL 2022 despite his slump performance. The Trinidadian cricketer could only score 144 runs in 11 innings of the Tata IPL 2022 at a poor strike rate of 110 which doesn’t do justice to his role.
MI plays Pollard as a finisher in the team but he has failed miserably to give a brisk finish.
Pollard was retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of the Tata IPL 2022 for a cost of INR 6 Crores. The franchise might look to release him and then purchase him at a much cheaper cost.
