Umran Malik likely to be named in India’s squad for South Africa and Ireland: Reports: Express pacer Umran Malik has taken the cricketing world by storm as he continues his purple patch in the ongoing IPL 2022. Malik, who hails from Kashmir, has exploited the opportunities for his good and has stolen all the limelights following his sensational display of raw pace.

Owing to his rich IPL exploits, Umran Malik is highly likely to get team India’s maiden call-up for the limited-overs series against South Africa and Ireland, said a report.

Team India is set to host South Africa for a five-match T20I series after the conclusion of the Tata IPL 2022. Malik is highly likely to be named in the Indian squad.

Malik has been clocking 150 kph consistently in all his IPL 2022 outings. The speedster bowls with an average speed of 146 kph and has the knack of troubling batters with his sheer pace.

“How often do you get a bowler in India bowling at 150kph+ consistently? He is a rare talent and is definitely on our radar. Of course, his name is being considered for India so that he can be groomed,” a member of the selection committee told.

While a few shades of Umran Malik were visible during the IPL 2021, under the guidance of Dale Steyn, Malik has transformed himself into a matured cricketer with better control.

The 22-years old bowler recently bowled a deadly 152.8 kph yorker to clean up a well-settled Wriddhiman Saha during Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match. Though his team, SRH, remained on the losing side against GT, Malik impressed everyone with his bowling as he picked up his maiden five-for in the Indian Premier League.

“Look at those figures, 5-25, the best figures in this year’s IPL. You can bowl him for an over, bowl him for two overs, bowl him for three overs. Let him run in, bowl around him. Build your fast-bowling around him,” said Kevin Peterson after the match.

Cricket experts and pundits have heaped praises on the pacer for his bowling brilliance. In no time, Malik is now being seen as India’s future who can be a deadly weapon for India in the longest format of cricket.

“Just have a look at some of the great sides, some of the great Australian sides that we’ve played against, [they had] the Brett Lees, the Mitchell Johnsons. This guy is a Test bowler, no one likes to face this pace,” he added.
