Vijay Shankar disappointed for not being selected in Indian side despite doing well.

The young Indian all-rounder Vijay Shankar in the recent conversation with India Today said that the comeback in the Indian side is not in his hand, he feels that he has done “better than most” to get a place in the team. Shankar last featured for India back in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019, since then he is out of the team.

The 30-years old all-rounder further said that he wants to be on the side due to his abilities and not because he can fit in for Hardik Pandya who is unable to bowl for India due to injuries.

Hardik Pandya is out of India’s test squad owing to his injury concerns due to which he is unable to bowl. However, Pandya’s exclusion from the squad makes way for the other all-rounder of the same discipline to fit in and give services to the team.

“I don’t want to be in the team just because I am an all-rounder, someone who can bat and bowl. It should be more genuine, I should be in the team when people trust me for my abilities,” Shankar told India Today.

“I have said in the past about not liking comparisons. But if you really compare, I think I definitely have done better than most.”

Shankar’s World Cup in 2019 campaign was cut short by his toe injury which he picked up midway through the tournament. He was back in action for the IPL 2020 but a hamstring injury again ruled him out of the cricket field. In 2021, Shankar played for SunRisers Hyderabad however the elite Indian competition was suspended due to ranging covid cases inside the bio-bubbles.

“I can’t think of getting into the Indian side, those things are not in my hand. All I can do is prepare hard and try and do well in the matches that I play. I will try to push for that place again,” Shankar said.

“Definitely, whoever has played for that country would love to wear that jersey again. There is no doubt about that. I just felt that when I had a decent run and I was not even considered after that, it was a little disappointing,” he added.
