T20 World Cup 2021: Indian captain Virat Kohli confirms that he is no longer looking to open the batting for India in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021. The skipper instead feels comfortable coming out at the number three position for the team.
During the toss of the ongoing warm-up match between India and England, Virat Kohli said that the equations were different prior to the IPL 2021 and that has certainly changed.
“We are pretty sorted in terms of how we are going to start in the first game. Outside of that, we just want to give an opportunity to guys in these games as much as possible. We will look to give game-time to most of them. Things were different before the IPL.”
Kohli further said that it will be unfair to take matches away from KL Rahul, especially when he is in good touch.
“Now it’s difficult to look beyond KL Rahul at the top of the order. Rohit is a no-brainer. A world-class player, he’s been solid up front. I will be batting at No. 3. That’s the only news I can give to start off.”

Virat Kohli during the India vs England T20I series, earlier this year, stated that he would love to open Indian T20I innings alongside Rohit Sharma. He even came to bat with Rohit in the last T20I match against England and played good cricket.
KL Rahul was in a good form in the recently concluded IPL 2021. The Punjab skipper scored 626 runs from 13 innings for his franchise at an average of 62.60.
Team India’s first-choice opener Rohit Sharma was also in a good form in the IPL 2021. Though Sharma scored a lot lesser than Rahul, he seemed to be a fine touch. He mustered 381 runs from 13 innings at an average of 29.30.
