Virat Kohli likely to step down from T20I captaincy after the T20 World Cup 2021.

Team India’s regular skipper Virat Kohli is very likely to step down from the T20I captaincy following the completion of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 in October-November. Kohli will pave the way for dashing opener Rohit Sharma to take up the responsibilities of the shortest format.

A huge overhaul in the Indian T20I side will be seen as Virat agrees to share his responsibilities with Rohit Sharma, a close source to the BCCI informed.

The current skipper is learnt to have prolonged discussions with his fellow mate Rohit Sharma and the Indian management following India’s victory down under in the 2020-21 test series.

The decision came in wake of Virat looking to concentrate more on his batting. It’s no secret that Virat has struggled in the past few years due to his batting. The cricketer has fought hard to get his 71st century, however, he constantly failed to breach the 100 runs mark since 2019.

“Virat himself will make the announcement. He is of the view that he needs to concentrate on his batting and go back to becoming what he has always been – the best batsman in the world,” sourced said.

“We realise spin-masters will be at work, giving their own twist to these developments. That’s the reason BCCI is planning this well in advance. In the end, Virat and Rohit both are on the same page,” added the source.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli share a great camaraderie which can be well witnessed in the recently concluded India tour of England. The Indian admirable duo had their moments in the field during the test series and their fans loved the gesture.

With the shared captaincy, Virat Kohli will have more time to think and evaluate his batting faults and what he can do to improve. Moreover, the workload, which has been the key in this covid pandemic, will be easy to manage.

Virat has successfully taken India over the line 29 times in T20Is after playing 45 matches as a captain. 14 resulted in losses while two ended as No result. While Rohit Sharma had a fantastic outing as India’s captain in the limited opportunities he received. The cricketer managed to seal 15 moments out of 19 in T20Is and four resulted in the loss.

Moreover, Rohit’s prowess in the IPL with Mumbai Indians is second to none. Everyone is well aware of his heroics as a batter and as a skipper in general. He has successfully lead the franchise to five IPL titles and is slowly looking forward to the sixth one as well in the upcoming IPL 2021 phase 2.
