Indian skipper and the run machine Virat Kohli has been named as the Wisden Almanack’s ODI Cricketer of the 2010s by the high rated annual publication recently. The publication also features former Indian cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar and Kapil Dev in the respective lists.

32-years old Virat Kohli made his One Day International debut against Sri Lanka in 2008 and since then he has been phenomenal in scoring runs. Kohli who is also regarded as the modern-day greats has piled up massive 12,169 runs in the 254 ODIs.

It is noteworthy that Virat Kohli has also won the World Cup 2011 and has amassed over 11,000 runs in the last 10 years with an average of over 60 and smacking 42 tons.

“To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first One-Day International, five ODI cricketers of the decade have been named in the 2021 edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack,” the reference book, often described as Bible of Cricket, stated.

“One cricketer has been named for each of the decades between 1971 and 2021, with India captain Virat Kohli taking the award for the 2010s,” Wisden said on its website.

Besides Virat Kohli, former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was named as the ODI Cricketer of the 1990s.

Kapil Dev has also named in the annual publication as the ODI cricketer of the 1980s. He was the first Indian to lift the ICC ODI World Cup trophy in 1983. Apart from this, Kapil Dev scalped the highest number of wickets in the decade than any other cricketer and scored runs with the highest strike rate.

The annual magazine named English all-rounder Ben Stokes as the “Leading Cricketer of the World” for the second time in a row.

“His haul of 641 Test runs at 58 in the calendar year was more than anyone else, while his 19 wickets cost just 18 apiece. He did it all against a backdrop of personal tragedy: his father, Ged, died in December at the age of 65,” Wisden editor Lawrence Booth said.

The Wisden Cricketer of the year 2021 list includes the likes of Dom Sibley, West Indian Jason Holder, Zak Crawley, Mohammed Rizwan and Darren Stevens.

West Indies experienced all-rounder Kieron Pollard was adjudged as the Leading T20 Cricketer in the World while Australia’s Beth Mooney featured in the ‘Leading Women’s Cricketer in the World’.
